Brent Corrigan Mainstream Film Truth

The mainstream film, Truth, I posted about once before is now out on DVD. It’s being classified a psychological thriller and it stars former porn star, Brent Corrigan. He’s using the name Sean Paul Lockhart.

Truth, a psychological thriller starring former porn star Sean Paul Lockhart (a.k.a. Brent Corrigan), is now available on DVD. The plot follows Caleb (Lockhart) as he pursues a romance with Jeremy (Rob Moretti), whom he met online. As they begin to fall for each other, it soon becomes clear that there is more to Caleb than meets the eye. A troubled past and a mentally ill mother are among the dark secrets he tries to conceal from his new lover, who finds himself tangled in Caleb’s web of lies. Steamy and suspenseful, Truth is a cautionary tale of romance in the digital age that also features a stellar performance from Emmy-winner Blanche Baker, of Sixteen Candles fame. More here…

I find this interesting and I’m going to follow it just to see how…and if…he makes the full transition to mainstream films. I’m not sure it’s ever been done before, and with a gay porn star at that. Evidently, he’s landed a few other small mainstream roles, too.

Since his indie gay film debut as Sean Paul Lockhart in the Charlie David mystery-drama, Judas Kiss, adult favorite Brent Corrigan has managed to make a new name for himself as a legit actor in a mixed bag of indie features including Sister Mary, Triple Crossed and now, the new romantic chiller, Truth. From the film’s trailer it looks like Lockhart gives a pretty convincing performance. He’s the apparently sweet, yet truly Jekyll-and-Hyde kind of guy who anyone might fall for — in this case writer-director-star Rob Moretti.

There’s more here. I’ve often wondered if it’s possible for an author of over 100 gay erotic romance novels and various short stories to make the transition into mainstream fiction. I’m not sure it can be done, but I’ve been aching to try it out. And this might be the year.

Benham Bros on HGTV

I knew this was coming when I first posted about it last week. The Benham brothers who had a show canceled on HGTV for being closely associated with anti-gay organizations are now claiming that HGTV was bullied by the gay agenda. I guess they fail to realize that there are straight people with gay family members watching HGTV, or straight people with gay friends and co-workers watching, too. Or for that matter, gay people who own or are connected to HGTV. That lack of reality always surprises me even though it shouldn’t at this point. Are these guys living in such a hooded environment they don’t know any gay people themselves? It’s actually hard to imagine this anywhere in the US.

In any event, here’s what the two Christians are saying now:

“We love all people. I love homosexuals. I love Islam, Muslims, and my brother and I would never discriminate. Never have we — never would we,” David Benham said in the above clip. “Never have I ever spoken against homosexuals, as individuals, and gone against them. I speak about an agenda. And that’s really what the point of this is — is that there is an agenda that is seeking to silence the voices of men and women of faith.”

I’m not even going to comment. There are numerous articles out that show the anti-gay beliefs…among many other “anti” beliefs that surprised even me. I just wonder how these “Christians” go to sleep at night after dealing with all that hate. And I’m not joking about that.

There’s a lot out about this one. You can read more hereand hereand here… The last link will show you how David Benham is the co-founder of a hugely twisted, unhealthy coalition that causes more damage to gays than school yard bullying with their approach to being gay and Christian.

Flip Benham’s eldest son, David Benham, is a co-founder of the Coalition and serves as its strategic coordinator.

And they are still crying bully.

North Carolina Gay Marriage Licenses

If Mark Chilton of North Carolina becomes the next Register of Deeds in Orange County, N.C, he’s promised to start issuing same sex marriage licenses even though same sex marriage is illegal in NC.

“I’m a legal scholar as well as a real-estate attorney,” said Chilton Thursday. “And after reading all of the cases that are involved with same-sex marriage that have come down from the federal courts, it seems very clear to me that North Carolina’s state constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage is definitely contrary to the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.”

It should be interesting to see what happens if he does get elected and does issue the licenses. I’ve read the legal argument he mentions above before, right here in Pennsylvania. However, Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia, and the Mayor of New Hope flatly refused to perform same sex marriage because it’s illegal in Pennsylvania. Both mayors support same sex marriage publicly. I’ve also posted about the Montgomery County, PA, clerk, Bruce Hanes, who started issuing same sex marriage licenses even though it’s illegal in PA. And a judge ruled against him and ordered he stop issuing the licenses.

At least Hanes went down on the right side of history and he was willing to stand up for something he believed in.

Daniel Radcliffe Full Frontal Nudity; Brent Corrigan Going Mainstream

Daniel Radcliffe Full Frontal Nudity

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DANIEL_RADCLIFFE_07.jpg

Daniel Radcliffe acted in the play, Equus, and showed everything he’s got, with full frontal scenes. And when the photos were leaked online it stirred up a firestorm…as usual.

The naked pictures of Daniel Radcliffe, taken during his current stint in Broadway play “Equus”, have been leaked and Broadway officials are outraged of the leak. The pics, which have been all over the net, show the young actor standing totally naked in front of co-star Anna Camp, who also bares all for the play.

You know, if you’re going to take off all your clothes in public shouldn’t you be prepared for anything? And if you’re known best for playing a character that’s familiar with children and you still take off all your clothes in public and show your proverbial magic wand…and being up on stage is about as public as it gets…you’re either making a bold statement or you’re living in a dream world.

You can check out the full frontal photo here.  I think there are more if you do a simple search. It’s actually very artistic and Radcliffe has nothing about which to be ashamed. I never saw any of the Harry Potter films or read the books. But if I had known that good old Harry Potter was carrying THAT magic wand around underneath his robe I would have had a front row seat for the midnight opening.

In any event, Radcliffe is now branching out into films with gay love scenes. I think he’s straight, but don’t quote me on that. It’s hard to tell anymore…a good thing.

It’s interesting that it’s deemed shocking. For me, there’s something very strange about that because we see straight sex scenes all the time. We’ve seen gay sex scenes before. I don’t know why a gay sex scene should be any more shocking than a straight sex scene.

Radcliffe plays Allen Ginsberg (beat generation poet) in Kill Your Darlings. I haven’t seen it, but this one sounds interesting. You can read more about it here, where there are more links.

Brent Corrigan Going Mainstream

When I posted about porn star,Brent Corrigan, last week and how he’s working on a more mainstream film, Truth, a friend commented to me that porn stars rarely ever go mainstream successfully. Being I don’t know much about that, I decided to check it out with a few simple searches to see what I could find. There are a few female porn stars who have managed to crossover into the mainstream, like this list of nine shows. And this article talks about porn star James Deen going mainstream in a film with Lindsay Lohan, The Canyons. But other than that I couldn’t find much else with a simple search, and to be truthful if I hadn’t read the short piece about James Deen and The Canyons I never would have heard of it in the first place…or heard of James Deen.

I found this rather light article interesting because of the tone:

Hollywood is all about dreaming of upward mobility. Slip a script under a stall door, hand out a few business cards at a funeral and you could be writing Transformers IV! And despite what you might think, there’s no rule saying porn stars can’t work their way up the mainstream-movie ladder. In 2009, they popped up all over the box office — from Sasha Grey’s high-brow turn in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience to a whole plethora of adult entertainers filling out the cast of Crank: High Voltage. Who’s done it best over the years?

The article then goes on to list a lot of the same names that are listed in the links above I just provided. But I do find it interesting that even though these ten or so people who come from the adult entertainment industry barely made it to C-list status. And again, most are women, not men…or gay men. And I can’t help but wonder how Brent Corrigan’s venture with Truth is going to turn out. It’s one thing to come from Harry Potter and do nude scenes and gay love scenes like Daniel Radcliffe. Actors get a free pass for that. But you’re not going to hear about a gay porn star doing anything even remotely related to the kids genre.

The other thing I don’t understand completely is that there’s been a huge increase in demand for gay fiction that’s more romance oriented…or lighter and more mainstream in a heteronormative way. But Truth is being described as an indie psychological thriller, which is something I see a lot lately with gay indie films. In fact, I’ve seen this dark brand of gay film all my life, as if anything indie has to be labeled as dark and mysterious and deeply psychological to be indie. I haven’t seen Truth, and I’m not sure I will (depends on how it’s released), so I can’t comment on it. It’s just that I find it interesting that with so many people discovering romantic stories with gay men that have HEA endings and give people the chance to escape it’s hard to justify the old tropes that never seem to go away. And I’m not talking about personal taste. I’m talking about giving people what they want, and giving them a balance.

You can read more here, and check out a clip of Truth. From what I gather, a good deal of the film was funded with Indiegogo.com, which is a lot like kickstarter.

Brent Corrigan "Truth;" Orgasm Wars; Locker Room Culture

Brent Corrigan “Truth”

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Topher_e_Brent.jpg

I’m going to be following this for a while, but I wanted to introduce the basics for anyone who hasn’t heard about it yet. Brent Corrigan is an adult entertainer who has been successful in an industry that many say is getting harder and harder to find success in thanks to the Internet and free content. In any event, Corrigan is making a film that’s not considered adult entertainment titled, Truth, and he’s having a fundraiser at Indiegogo.com in order to finish up and get the film released. I’ve posted about kickstarter and how people are raising funds for various artistic endeavors there, but never about Indiegogo. But what I find most interesting is that Corrigan is moving away from adult entertainment and he seems to be doing a very good job at applying his film experience to something that’s out of his proverbial box.

A suspenseful, psychological thriller, “Truth” exposes the hidden demons buried deep inside each and every one of us. After a chance encounter over the Internet, Caleb (Sean Paul Lockhart, “Milk”, “Judas Kiss”, “Chillerama”) meets and falls head over heels for Jeremy (Rob Moretti, “Crutch”, “An Affirmative Act”, “Snapshot”), and soon the line between love and lies blur.

You can read more here, and donate if you wish. I can’t promise anything, but I’m going to try to lobby Corrigan for a personal interview about the film.

Orgasm Wars

In Japan there’s a late night TV show called Orgasm Wars. The general theme revolves around a gay man trying to get a straight man off.

Dramatically narrated for a jokey effect, the variety program features straight Japanese porn star Ryou Sawai meeting his “opponent,” Takuya, in a warehouse. They exchange boasts of who will win and then get down to business. Takuya performs oral sex on the porn star but all the graphic action takes place discreetly in a covered box. Takuya has 40 minutes to finish the job as university students cheer on the contestants. (Quite the field trip.)

This isn’t exactly all that new. It might be for TV, but there have been adult web sites doing this for a long time. And it doesn’t take that much to get the alleged straight man off from what I’ve seen.

You can check it out here, where there’s a video.

Locker Room Culture

There isn’t much written about what’s being dubbed these days as locker room culture, and that’s partly because it’s considered private and kept toned down for reasons few want to discuss in public. But this article to which I’m linking gives a few good examples of what happens behind the closed doors of locker rooms in professional sports.

The rewards of acceptance in an NFL locker room are plentiful — players become part of a unit, have a chance to become secure financially and play a game they love. But, to fit in an NFL locker room means being able to survive a whirlwind lifestyle of mental stress, physical violence, egomaniacs and rampant testosterone. There’s constant teasing, taunting and testing to sort out who can take it. When everything works right, it leads to the strongest of bonds, the strongest of teams.

Sounds like high school to me. Instead of the mean girl cheerleaders you have the big bad bully jocks. Because, from what I gather if you try to buck this system…or ritual…it doesn’t end well. And there seem to be more who are willing to play by the rules of locker room culture than there aren’t just for sheer survival.

You can read more here. It’s a fascinating piece about how some players are bullied and hazed for sport and for ritual. And I would guess this is why most professional players who are gay remain hidden in the closet.
