Gay Rugby Player Beaten To the Point Where He May Never Play Again, Ryan Field Books

Gay Rugby Player Beaten to the Point Where He May Never Play Again

This is so sad to read. It’s so hard to fathom that this sort of thing is still happening. But I see so much hate for LGBTQIA people all over social media these days I worry about the future. This hate is often fueled by the far right.

In this particular hate crime, a gay rugby player in Ireland was beaten so badly that his ankle was shattered, and one of his eyes was dangerously damaged. Right after it happened, he posted about it on Twitter.

“Last night a stranger called me a faggot before beating the shit out of me,” Somers tweeted from the hospital after the attack. “He left me with a fractured eye socket, 2 fractures in my ankle, a dislocation in my ankle & some other minor injuries.”

Here’s more. This all happened in April and they go into more detail about how he’s doing now. Plus, there are hospital photos of the poor guy. He says he may never be the same again.

Jussie Smollett Verdict Has Nothing to do with Real Anti-Gay Violent Crimes That Happen All the Time, Ryan Field Books

Jussie Smollett Verdict Has Nothing to do with Real Anti-Gay Violent Crimes That Happen All the Time

When I first heard the story about Jussie Smollett I believed him. And I believed him because I know that anti-gay hate crimes are real and they happen all the time. I even believed him a little longer than most people because I’ve seen how real these crimes truly are. Unfortunately, Jussie turned out to be a huge disappointment.

And I think this needs to be said. It’s a piece written by Michael Crawford and he talks about his experience with anti-gay hate and anti-gay violence.

I learned at an early age to be on guard for possible violence. I was a shy-looking Black kid with thick glasses who preferred a book in my hand than a basketball. A mama’s boy with a walk that was just feminine enough to signal to friend and foe that I was gay.

Here’s more. It’s really a shame about Jussie because he could have been so much better and done so much more with his platform.

A mob carved a homophobic slur into gay man’s flesh

Here is another scary story about a gay person being abused and tortured. This time a mob is involved. It happened in Spain.

The young man, 20, reported that about eight people were among the mob and that they shouted insults at him as they attacked him.

Here’s more

It’s a very disturbing story.

Gay Man Found Almost Dead on Atlanta Train Tracks,

Here’s yet another disturbing story about a young gay man who was found almost dead on Atlanta train tracks. From the way it sounds, it was pretty gruesome, too.

A man out for a walk found Dowd Sunday morning on some train tracks. Local media reported the witness said there was no one near where Dowd was discovered.

Here’s more.  They started a GoFundMe for him. The police are still investigating this and they don’t have much information yet. I’ll look for a follow-up story.

Florida Man Attacks Gay Tourists, Ryan Field Books

Florida Man Attacks Gay Tourists

Apparently, according to this link, a man in Florida went up to 3 gay men from Alabama and he started questioning their sexuality in the most blatant ways.

“‘Are you gay? Ugh, I don’t like gay people,’” the man said, according to the first victim who spoke to a local news outlet, saying that he feared for his life. “He ended up spitting at me, and then, that’s when he threw the beer at me.”

Here’s the rest. They are calling this a potential hate crime. It’s a shame because it happened in South Beach where it’s usually safe and gay-friendly.

Gay YouTube Star Crying Wolf In WeHo; Alexander Skarsgard Says Gay Sex Is Incredible; #HeterosexualPrideDay

Gay YouTube Star Crying Wolf In WeHo

This week we read the sad tale of an innocent young gay male…who is also a YouTube star…who was allegedly beaten in WeHo. At the time, it was an alleged hate crime. There was one gruesome photo of this guy’s bruised, battered face.

Then, it was reported that the information might not have been correct. They were investigating to see what the real story was.

And now, according to this article, the claims were a hoax. Allegedly, the YouTube star, Calum McSwiggan, wasn’t beaten and it wasn’t a hate crime. His injuries were self-inflicted. His friend even claims McSwiggan was crying wolf.

Not surprisingly, McSwiggan has taken to Facebook to write his own interminable take on the situation, in which he says he was “high from having an amazing time at VidCon” before things took a dark turn.

You can read his whole statement here at this link. It’s very long.

Alexander Skarsgard Says Gay Sex Is Incredible

Of course Skarsgard is promoting a new movie. In doing so, he claims that he’s kind of/sort of had incredible gay sex. On TV, that is.

If you’re a gay man, like me, it’s kind of hard to describe. There’s one quote where Skarsgard talks about his gay sex scenes in True Blood, and how he had to deal with another straight male actor who was doing the scene with him…who was nervous because he’d never kissed a guy before. Interesting, because I wouldn’t feel that way if I were going to kiss a woman in a sex scene.

This is what transpired…verbatim, according to Skarsgard.

I just said, ‘Look at the scene. It’s this nemesis and he comes in and then it gets seductive and you think they’re gonna make love and it gets into that and then suddenly my character stabs him in the back and he explodes. In two minutes, look at this emotional rollercoaster we’re taking the audience on. If we commit to this, it’s going to be an amazing scene and we’re going to be very happy with it forever. If we hold back, that’s when it gets awkward.’

Then, in this article, Skarsgard tells other straight male actors who are playing gay to “just dive in.”

At least he didn’t say, “hold your nose.”

I know you all loved True Blood. I loved it, too. I never missed an episode. But just imagine how it would sound if Skarsgard had made these comments about having a sex scene with someone from any other minority. And this happens time and again, whenever a straight male actor plays gay and there’s a kiss or even a hint of sex involved.

#HeterosexualPrideDay on Twitter

When I saw this #HeterosexualPrideDay thing trending on Twitter yesterday morning I went right over to see what it was all about.

It all began when someone decided to mock Gay Pride by creating the hashtag #HeterosexualPrideDay. Pretty soon, straight men (and a few straight women) joined the chorus by tweeting about just how secure they are in their heterosexuality.

The sarcastic Tweets continued all day, and I tweeted several of my own. Here’s one:

Friends of mine were together for fifty-six years, but were never able to legally marry. They died that way.

Kim Davis Is Free; First Gay Police Wedding; Father of Gay Student Beaten Speaks Out

Kim Davis Is Free

Kim Davis was released from jail yesterday and Gov. Mike Huckabee was there by her side supporting her. I also read she’ll be returning to work by Friday and no one knows how she’s going to deal with issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples. From what I gather to be true, the people in her office are not required to follow her orders on the matter any longer.

“Thank you all so much. I love you all so very much,” she told the crowd. “I just want to give God the glory. His people have rallied, and you are a strong people! We serve a living God who knows exactly where each and every one of us is at. Keep on pressing. Don’t let down. Because He is here and He is worthy.” The He she’s referring to is GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, who came to town to troll for votes introduce the woman whose homophobia he bizarrely compared to Lincoln’s fight against slavery. We’re not sure we’d call him “worthy,” Kimbo.

I also believe it to be true that Huckabee wasn’t trolling for votes. He was there because he hates the concept of gay marriage and because he’s such a religious zealot he can’t help himself.  Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to understand the way government works…or he’s interpreting it to work a certain way, according to his biased religious beliefs. And that’s where it gets dangerous. Because if Kim Davis’ civil rights were being violated in any way the very people she’s fighting would be the first ones to support her. For example, if another county clerk who belongs to a religion that doesn’t believe in divorce denied Kim Davis a marriage license for her next husband…because she’s been divorced several times…people who believe in equality would be supporting her. That’s what equal rights are about. As for her religious convictions, she should keep them confined to church, not government…or seek emotional counseling by a qualified professional.

You can read the rest here.

First Gay Police Wedding

I think this is more about the first public gay police wedding in the world. I find it hard to believe no other gay cop has gotten married before this.

In any event, it’s nice to see.

Two gay policemen tied the knot in Spain over the weekend and the whole world is celebrating with them.

The couple, who are being referred to as Chema and Jonathan by Spanish media, were married in Jerez de la Frontera on September 5 while dressed in their full police uniforms, in what many believe is a world first.

More here, and the article goes on to mention they’re hoping this might inspire others who are still in the closet. And trust me they are there. I’ve been going back and forth with a guy who e-mails me that I’ve never even met all week hoping to help get him through the nightmare of a closeted life he’s living. There’s really nothing I can do but listen. You can’t draw conclusions for people. They have to draw those conclusions for themselves.

Father of Gay Student Beaten Speaks Out

The father of a gay student in North Dakota who was allegedly beaten by some guys in a fraternity is now talking about it publicly. The police are still investigating the incident.

“To have four guys jump you, strip you of your clothes and your dignity, and then whip you with a belt like an animal — if that’s not a hate crime I don’t know what a hate crime is,” he told Nicole Johnson of local NBC affiliate KVLY.

“You’re going to run across people who are homophobic anywhere you go. At least there are some good people around that campus that night who were willing to step up,” he continued.

What does he want for those accused?

“What do I want to see happen? I’m a parent — you don’t want to know what I want to see happen to them.”

I’m with the father on that one. Beat the hell out of them so they never do this to another single gay person again.  You can read more here.

iPad Security Flaw; Rush Limbaugh on Matthew Shepard

iPad Security Flaw

I titled this post with iPad because I know so many read this blog on an iPad, but it’s a security flaw that’s with other Apple devices, too. If you haven’t been reading or listening to the news to learn about an update that hopefully fixes it you might have to deal with what’s called a cyber “man in the middle attack.” I updated immediately. It’s a really a quick fix that doesn’t take long. And from what I’ve read it’s mostly for people who use unsecured Wi-Fi connections.

Some people have issues with the update. I didn’t have a problem. I highly suggest reading this article below for more information.

The iPad upgrade, though, was something of a disaster. The device disconnected itself in the middle of the upgrade for some reason (I really don’t know why; I had it sitting off by itself on the corner of my desk; all I can think of is the cable got bumped). Interrupting the process is never good, and in this case it totally freaked out my iPad. I lost everything on it and it wouldn’t even show me my home screen!

I didn’t have any issues when I upgraded, knock wood. But evidently that’s not the case with everyone. If you are tech challenged you might want to check it out with an Apple rep.

Rush Limbaugh on Matthew Shepard

Faker and multi-millionaire pundit who will do anything for a buck or to get attention, Rush Limbaugh, recently commented that the death of Matthew Shepard was not a gay hate crime. His highly disorganized sentence doesn’t even make sense.

‘Jason Coll(ins) – who by the way took number 98 in solidarity with Matthew Shepard, who was, it’s now been proven didn’t happen, but reputed to have beaten up by a bunch of anti-gay bigots.’

You can read more here about the Matthew Shepard hate crime, where there are several details about what transpired.

In 2009, President Barack Obama signed into law the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act  which allows for added charges and harsher jail sentences for those convicted of what is deemed to be a hate crime, a crime against somebody’s race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.

The article gives an assumption about why Limbaugh doesn’t think Shepard’s case was a hate crime. But I’m not weighing on that. My point with this entire part of the post is to inform people that Rush Limbaugh is a pundit, a radio personality, an actor, and a personality who will do anything to get attention. In a way, he’s an exaggerated clown given far too much credibility than he deserves.  He’s laughing all the way to the proverbial bank. And he’s not the only one. He’s just like the rest of them, even his biggest competition on the liberal end. Don’t pay attention to anything these pundit people say. They are getting paid millions of dollars to sensationalize and spin truth and most people don’t realize this.

Gay Journalist Beaten; Liberace's Lover Facing Jail Time

Gay Journalist Beaten

A young gay journalist living in Manhattan, Randy Gener, was found with his head bashed in on January 18th and now they are looking into whether or not it was a hate crime. The journalist is still alive, in stable condition, but can’t answer questions. I would imagine he suffered enough head trauma to alter his memory as well. But that’s just speculation.

When police arrived, the victim was lying in a pool of his blood with his head bashed in. According to Eyewitness News Live, a local ABC station, Gener was transported to hospital where he underwent brain surgery.

He’s reported for The New York Times and New York Daily News.

Living within almost equal distance between New York City and Philadelphia, I always find New York to be the safer of the two cities. But these days you just can’t take anything for granted at all.

Liberace’s Lover Facing Jail Time

In the past year or so a good deal was written about Scott Thorson, who was once Liberace’s long term lover and the focus of an HBO film starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas, Behind the Candelabra. I’ve posted about it here.

He was sentenced to eight to 20 years in a Nevada jail yesterday (23 January) for failing a string of drug test while on probation for burglary and identity theft convictions.

My only comment is generalized. Whenever you see a very young man of limited means with a much older man of unlimited means, there’s almost always a little back story and the least of it is pure love. The film, Behind the Candelabra, about Liberace and Thorson’s relationship seemed to portray Liberace as the powerful, cold-hearted older lover and Thorson as the innocent young victim who was cut off without a dime when Liberace got tired of him. And now Thorson, many years later, is going to jail for some very serious offenses. Time tells all.

You can read more here. There’s a photo of Thorson as he looks now. He’s old now, but strikes a remarkable resemblance to Liberace, probably thanks to the plastic surgery he underwent, allegedly at Liberace’s request.
