"We Say Gay" Florida's Pride Parade Draws Massive Numbers, Ryan Field Books

“We Say Gay” Florida’s Pride Parade Draws Massive Numbers

After that MAGA governor in Florida enforced a bill that basically silences schools from mentioning anything LGBTQ, especially in the lower grades, I’m relieved to see this news. And after the worst of the MAGA crowd started referring to gay people as “groomers,” I’m even happier to see this. The word groomer, in this case, suggests that gay people are trying to turn little straight white kids gay. Which is ridiculous. You don’t turn gay. You are born gay.

But this year’s Florida’s Pride Parade showed those MAGAs that we can come out in numbers, along with our allies.

Florida’s largest annual Pride march returned to St. Petersburg this past weekend for the first time since 2019. This year, however, the celebratory event took on a more activist tone as revelers contended with the lingering coronavirus pandemic, the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, and a new state law limiting LGBTQ classroom instruction.

Here’s more.  I hope that MAGA realizes that we’ve fought worse than this. They don’t seem to understand that we are a lot tougher now than we were 50 years ago. We’ve been fighting all of our lives and we will continue.

Gay High School Student Zander Moricz Says the Don't Say Gay Law is Silencing Him Right Now, Ryan Field Books

Gay High School Student Zander Moricz Says the Don’t Say Gay Law is Silencing Him Right Now

A Florida High School Senior named Zander Moricz who is also the class president is suing the state of Florida over the don’t say gay law. The bill hasn’t even gone into effect yet and the problems are already beginning. Zander’s principal is allegedly threatening to cut the microphone during Zander’s graduation speech if Zander mentions anything related to his LGBTQIA activism. And this is a really bright, normal kid who simply wants to mention who he is.

It’s unthinkable that a principal would do such a thing.

“He said that he just ‘wanted families to have a good day’ and that if I was to discuss who I am and the fight to be who I am, that would ‘sour the celebration,’” Moricz, 18, recalled. “It was incredibly dehumanizing.”

Here’s more. That’s always been the excuse they use to put us down. The negative attitudes and the implication of shame for being gay.  Let’s just keep it quiet for the families. Well, I stand with Zander Moricz and no one is going to keep me down any more for the sake of some straight who doesn’t want to know anything about gay people.

There’s an excellent video on the website where you can listen to an interview with Zander and his attorney. You can see for yourself what a smart, courageous kid he is. They are actually trying to stop the don’t say gay bill before it goes into effect.

Florida Students Fight Back Over Don't Say Gay Bill and Yearbook Censorship, Ryan Field Books

Florida Students Fight Back Over Don’t Say Gay Bill and Yearbook Censorship

It’s encouraging to see this happen in Florida. There is this superintendent of schools in Florida who decided to allegedly censor the school yearbook (she doesn’t believe it was censorship).

Apparently, they included photos of a school walkout in protest of the don’t say gay bill. In the photos, they were waving rainbow flags and signs that read, “love is love.” But this superintendent of schools ordered stickers to cover up the protest photos and not everyone agreed with her.

Seminole County School Board members rejected that plan Tuesday night, voting 5-0 to order smaller stickers that don’t cover up the page’s words and pictures while explaining that the March protest over the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill outside Lyman High School was unauthorized.

Here’s more. It goes on to discuss more about the issue and it mentions the hashtag #stopthestickers on social media. These brave students spoke up and they changed something. My own dad was a superintendent of schools for many, many years and one of the issues he cared about was free speech and censorship. As far as I know, he never interfered with the content in student yearbooks.

Here’s a link to the hashtag on Twitter where you can see the pages they didn’t want you to see.

Backward GOP Senators Want TV Ratings Board to Post Warnings for 'Disturbing' LGBTQIA Content, Ryan Field Books

Backward GOP Senators Want TV Ratings Board to Post Warnings for ‘Disturbing’ LGBTQIA Content

When they say ‘disturning’ I’m sure they mean ALL LGBTQIA content. Even the most G-rated LGBTQIA content. These fools truly believe that anything LGBTQIA is for adults only.

This reminds me of the early days of TV when Lucy and Desi were forced to sleep in twin beds because of TV censors. And this kind of thing continued all through the 1950s and part of the 60s with TV shows. Finally, we got to see Archie and Edith Bunker sleeping in the same bed as most married couples. And all this was because of backward conservative religious fools.

And now the same type of backward mindset is targeting the LGBTQIA community.

A group of Republican senators is calling for the country’s television ratings system to warn parents about “sexual orientation and gender identity content” on children’s TV shows.

Here’s more. It goes into more background and how the don’t say gay bill has fueled so much hate. I blame Desantis and his MAGA crowd. They are causing a divide in this country that’s irreparable.

Bullying and The Tyler Clemente Foundation, "Don't Say Gay" Bill Is Nothing New To Conservatives, Including Ronald Reagan, Disney Employees Walk Out Because of the "Don't Say Gay" Bill, Ryan Field Books

Bullying and The Tyler Clemente Foundation

Although bullying isn’t exclusive to the LGBTQIA community, this is always my focus and I stick to one thing. The straights can handle their own issues because it’s usually a straight kid bullying a gay kid.

In any event, here is a link to the Tyler Clemente foundation with a few statistics to look over. In some cases it’s staggering. But even if only one LGBTQIA kid gets bullied, that’s one too many for me.

Bullying is an intricate issue and I’m no expert, and I don’t claim to be. In fact, nothing bothers me more than those who think they are experts and they know nothing. It only diminishes the real bully issues.

Understanding bullying data is just one part of preventing and interrupting bullying. The information available from research depends on terms, definitions, and measures. When students are surveyed about their experiences with bullying, their answers may vary depending on how or when a question is asked. The information below will look closer at the “what, how, why, and who” of bullying so that you can start conversations about how to prevent it in your community.

Here’s more. Do you see what I mean about how intricate it is? If you leave it up to amateurs you could make it worse. The article goes on to explain all kinds of bullying, even cyberbullying. As I said, it’s not a simple issue. And you need some seriously trained professionals to handle it.

“Don’t Say Gay” Bill Is Nothing New To Conservatives, Especially Ronald Reagan

While millions of people are marching for equality in Florida against the “don’t say gay” bill and the way Disney reacted to this bill that will basically silence all LGBTQ kids, I saw this article trending on Google and it’s really spot on with regard to what I remember as homophobia from politicians such as Ronald Reagan. The Reagan years were terrible times for gay people. During the height of the AIDS crisis, with millions dying, Reagan pretended we didn’t even exist. He’s not the only one.

During a similar episode of anti-gay moral panic none other than Ronald Reagan — whose record on L.G.B.T. issues is most often defined by his shameful inaction around H.I.V. and AIDS during his presidency — turned to his libertarian roots to thwart such bigotry, rather than promote it.

Here’s more. The entire article is worth the read.  I think Reagan, and his Moral Majority, were probably the worst offenders. This is also how Reagan will go down in history in some regards.

Disney Employees Walk Out Because of the “Don’t Say Gay” Bill

This all reminds me of when former “Family Friendly” Hallmark CEO, Bill Abbott, decided to pull the Lesbian Wedding commercial and the world went berserk. Abbott eventually left Hallmark over the debacle. Sadly, Bill Abbott is now running a family-friendly cable channel that’s so far off the radar I can’t even get it. But he’s still around, and so is the CEO of Disney who really botched up this time.

With that said, here is why LGBTQIA people are walking out.

Organizers of the walkout wrote in an open letter posted on its website that statements by Disney’s leadership regarding the bill “have utterly failed to match the magnitude of the threat to LGBTQIA+ safety represented by this legislation.”

You can read more here. From what I gather, Disney has been trying to do better. At least on the surface. But is it all too late? If you read the article you’ll see what I mean. I think the problem is the way Disney responded in the first place. CEO Bob Chapek tried to remain neutral. It’s all in the article. This bill is too dangerous to remain neutral. You either take a stand on one side or the other. As a gay author, I can’t just sit back and support a bill like that. I would be an idiot.

Sen. Ileana Garcia (R-FL) Issues Apology for Saying Gay Isn't Permanent, Ryan Field Books

Sen. Ileana Garcia (R-FL) Issues Apology for Saying Gay Isn’t Permanent

And here is more idiocy coming out of Florida. This really is about as stupid and clueless as anyone can get.

Sen. Ileana Garcia (R-FL) made the truly ridiculous comment in supporting Florida’s don’t say gay bill. According to this article, here’s what the idiot said…

“Gay is not a permanent thing, LGBT is not a permanent thing,” Garcia said.

Someone should tell her.

Here’s more. Well, Miss Straight Privilege should know that it’s been permanent for me and millions of other gay people in the world. I know this for a fact because I’m gay, and have been all my life. It’s really simple to understand. Just like Miss Straight Privilege has been straight all her life.

Some of these straight women are really anti-gay. And I often wonder if they feel threatened by gay men in some way. As if we might steal their husbands and they know they can’t compete. I know a few closeted gay and bisexual men who are married to women but prefer to spend their intimate time with gay men.

She did issue an apology. But after someone makes such a mean and stupid comment do they really deserve to be canceled or forgiven? I have no patience for these anti-gay straights anymore. And she’s dangerous.
