Tanning Mom Does Gay Porn

Patricia Krentcil, better known as “The Tanning Mom” because she took her daughter into a tanning bed booth and gained national attention as a kind of sort of pop culture personality, now has a cameo in a gay adult entertainment movie, Kings of New York 2. She also gained attention because of the bizarre way she looked from too much indoor tanning. I have a comment about the tanning industry below.

According to the director of the film, Marc MacNamara, Tanning Mom allegedly showed up on the set a few sheets to the wind, too.

“We expected Patricia to need a bit of hand-holding, but when she showed up we quickly found out we had to hold more than her hand to prop her seemingly inebriated body up… She seemed to having a great time, but it was definitely a challenging day. In the end she delivered Tan Mom in all her glory and that’s what people are infatuated with.”

In full disclosure, Tony and I used to own tanning salons back in the 1990’s. At the time, it seemed like a fun business and we didn’t have all the information out that we have now about skin cancer. In fact, at the time tanning beds were being promoted as safer than the real sun because it’s a controlled environment. You can only base your decisions on the information given to you at the time.

But the first year in business I grew extremely disillusioned with the way the tanning industry was run, and the way many tanning clients (customers) develop an addiction to the tanning beds. Also at the time, tanning during prom time was a huge event for girls and boys in high school. The prom crowd would descend upon us in droves from April 1 until the end of June. Back then in New Jersey, it was legal but Tony and I always insisted upon a parent or guardian signature, and we insisted on meeting the parents the first time the kid came in. And even though it was legal for minors to come in, we set our own strict rules and guidelines about how often the prom kids could come in and use the tanning beds. In other words, it was not unrestricted with us.

We also had several adult clients who were just as addicted as the Tanning Mom and they would come into the salon and tan daily every single day of the year…no matter how much I told them it was a bad idea and that they didn’t really need to do it that often. I soon discovered indoor tanning truly is an addiction for some and these people can’t help themselves any more than other addicts. This is what ultimately led us to sell the business in less than five years. I found the lack of government (and state) restrictions at the time irresponsible and I didn’t want to be part of an industry that promoted anything like that. The money the business generated was good, but I just couldn’t continue dealing with the addictive personalities and all the health risks that kept coming out in reports.

Naughty Art History

There’s a new book out, Erotica Universalis, that covers erotic art history dating as far back as ancient Egypt.

Erotica Universalis” has been published in more than a few iterations, but the newest version of the series was published this month. Coupled with erotic writings from the likes of Ovid and Voltaire, the familiar and obscure imagery highlights just how indecent artists have been willing to get. Think of the puritanical backlash Picasso faced when he painted “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon.” Now, imagine the mouths agape when Courbet debuted “L’Origine du Monde.”

You can read more here. Erotic art like erotic romance has always been around, and some of the photos in the article are fascinating. I used to represent many contemporary erotic artists in my gallery in New Hope, and clients would ask to be on waiting lists just so they could see an artist’s latest work first. Of course there are those who would call this porn, but you can’t blame them for not knowing any better.

For those erotic authors out there who often feel is if they are being slammed daily by the Internet porn police, there’s nothing new about erotica and you’re in good company. There will always be those who think too much erotica is porn, and there will always be an argument about the difference between porn and erotica.

Miley Cyrus in Lingerie

Update: Miley Cyrus is now under fire with the Stroke Association for comments made on SNL.

Last week I posted about the way Miley Cyrus was attacked online, in an open letter, by an aging singer with previous mental health issues, Sinead O’Conner. The attack by O’Conner criticized the way Cyrus dresses and tends to promote her sexuality as a woman. When Cyrus responded to the attack suggesting they get together and talk about it, O’Conner went into more rants on social media. This week Miley Cyrus showed up at Planet Hollywood in New York in what looks like lingerie.

Miley Cyrus celebrated the release of her fourth studio album, “Bangerz,” on Tuesday night at Planet Hollywood in New York, and it seems like she decided to simply forgo an outfit for the evening.

You can read about it here, where there are photos of Cyrus looking better than ever, and happier than ever. I have a feeling this little display is Miley Cyrus’s polite response to Sinead O’Conner’s rant last week…and it’s very well done!

Sometimes the best revenge really is looking good. And sometimes you can flip the bird without even lifting a finger.

American Horror Story; Is Miley Cyrus a Victim?

American Horror Story

The new season of American Horror Story is coming up this week, and Ryan Murphy thinks it could run for 10 seasons. The show also has a big gay following for some reason, and DRVs in my house have already been set to record the entire series. Jessica Lange is back, and Kathy Bates is also part of the cast.

Jessica Lange plays Fiona, the Supreme witch of her generation, which means she has almost unlimited power — except that she can’t seem to stop herself from aging. Her daughter Cordelia, played by Sarah Paulson, is also a witch, but she’s chosen to stifle her powers and live a more “normal” life. Of course normal in a Ryan Murphy show means running a school for “exceptional young ladies,” a.k.a. young witches, in New Orleans, home of voodoo and the destination for witches fleeing Salem so many years ago.

“American Horror Story: Coven” premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. ET on FX.

Is Miley Sirus a Victim?

In a Guardian article by Melissa Bradshaw, there are some interesting comments about whether or not Miley Cyrus is a victim, and whether or not Sinead O’Clonner was justified in penning Cyrus an open letter. I still think the main issue is dealing with people who have mental illnesses. However, if I were attacked online, non-stop, like O’Conner is attacking Cyrus, I’m not sure I would be so forgiving.

Perhaps you can already see the problem here. It is not women’s bodies or images of them that cause the exploitation of women or violence against women. The perpetrators are to blame. If women’s bodies were to blame for any violence or exploitation of women, then rapists would be justified in claiming their victims were asking for it by looking attractive. The rhetoric of objectification actually feeds that which it claims to protect women against – the equation of female nudity with exploitation and violence. What the world needs is not the idea that women are precious victims. Women need to be able to behave in a sexual way without exploitation or violence being considered a necessary outcome.

You can read more at this link.

I often post about rape culture here. However, I think these issues when coming from a woman’s POV, hold more impact than anything I could say or comment about. But I will add this: Cher started performing in less than nothing costumes many years ago, she shocked people at award ceremonies, and continued to do this well into her fifties. I would like to see how Cher would respond to Sinead O’Conner if O’Conner were to pen her an open letter. In fact, I would like ringside seats.

Miley Cyrus Attack; PA Gov Gay Marriage Like Incest

Miley Cyrus Attack

Update below *

I’ve been following the online flame war between Miley Cyrus and Sinead O’Conner since it started. And the reason why I titled this part of the post the way I did is because it’s been reported that Miley Cyrus was allegedly attacked first by Sinead O’Conner, out of the blue, without any provocation. She who throws the first punch is considered the attacker.

Sinead O’Conner wrote and open letter of I guess what you could call advice to Miley Cyrus, and Cyrus replied to that unsolicited, insulting advice on twitter the way most normal people would have replied.

This is part of what O’Conner wrote in the first unsolicited open letter to Cyrus:

O’Connor writes that she is “extremely concerned” that Miley believes it is “in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping.”

You can read more here, where there’s another link to the open letter written by O’Conner.

In response, Miley Cyrus tweeted a few things Ms. O’Conner didn’t appreciate.

Sinead. I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting & performing on SNL this week.

So if youd like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter. 🙂

Miley Cyrus also tweeted about a past incident involving Sinead O’Conner.

Then Sinead O’Conner went on this epic rant on Facebook:

Miley… Really? Who the f*&k is advising you? Because taking me on is even more f*&kin’ stupid than behaving like a prostitute and calling it feminism. You have posted today tweets of mine which are two years old, which were posted by me when I was unwell and seeking help so as to make them look like they are recent. In doing so you mock myself and Amanda Bynes for having suffered with mental health issues and for having sought help….

More here…

Update * O’Conner issued yet another open letter: “Miley, I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you,” O’Connor wrote in a third open letter posted on Oct. 4. “You had plenty of time yesterday to abuse Amanda Bynes … an entirely innocent party … and myself … who also did nothing to deserve your abuse, along with every other sufferer of mental health problems and every person who suffered abuse at the hands of priests.”

I went to 12 years of Catholic school and never suffered one day of abuse from a Catholic priest. I’m not fond of the way the Pope feels about gay people, however, I also know plenty of good practicing Catholics, priests and nuns included, who are very supportive of gay people. The majority of Catholics I know are good, decent, liberal people who do the best they can.

O’Connor wrote: “When you end up in the psych ward or rehab I’ll be happy to visit you … and would not lower myself to mock you. Be a proper woman and make the public apologies.”

More here…

Unless you have actually been the online target of this type of attack mode behavior that comes from nowhere, when you least expect it, and is always unsolicited, you can’t know how it feels. One minute you’re minding your own business, the next someone you don’t know, someone you never want to know, is attacking you in writing, online and in public. And you never did a single thing to hurt them or harm them. It happened to me a few years ago by an elderly fanfic author I’d never heard of before and it floored me. So on a much smaller scale I can see why Miley Cyrus responded the way she did. If you’re out in the street and someone pushes you, your natural instinct is to push back. But if you’re online I’ve learned through experience you can’t react the same way. And the best thing to do is ignore the attacker and hope he or she gets the help they need.

The issue of mental health comes into play, and that’s a very serious issue these days. It’s especially serious when dealing with anyone online because you never know. The only thing you can do is try to figure out what motivated the attack against you, and if you can’t, you can only assume there’s some deep serious mental issue with the person who attacked you and it’s always best to just let the issue go and ignore it. If anything, you can reach out and try to help the person with the mental health issue if you are so inclined. But I think the best thing to do is just ignore them and hope they have good friends and family members around to support them with their mental health issues.

This is something we’re all going to be dealing with in the future, and I think a new set of rules needs to be applied to how we react to those who are not mentally balanced through no fault of their own. People with mental health issues can’t help themselves, and the Internet makes it all too simple for them to say and do things they normally wouldn’t say or do in public.

PA Gov Gay Marriage Like Incest

I’m posting this to show readers what we’re dealing with here in PA with regard to same sex marriage. Our illustrious governor, Tom Corbett, compared gay marriage to incest.

The Pennsylvania governor was on WHP-TV in Harrisburg speaking about gay marriage when an anchor asked about a statement his lawyers made in a recent court filing, comparing the marriage of gay couples to the marriage of children because neither can legally wed in the state.

“It was an inappropriate analogy, you know,” Corbett said. “I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don’t you?”

You can read more here. But an interesting thing to note is that Corbett’s daughter is married to a man of African American descent, and her marriage wouldn’t have been legal in many states some fifty years ago. And some idiot fifty years ago could have made the same comment Corbett made about gay marriage.

I can’t help but wonder how Corbett would have felt about interracial marriage fifty years ago when many politicians like him were on the wrong side of history.
