“Daily Mail” and Alleged Homophobia
Here’s an article that calls out journalists at The Daily Mail for being slightly homophobic…what I usually refer to in other instances as passive aggressive homophobia.
Some of the Olympics coverage coming out of the newspaper has been homophobic, though it’s your call whether to think of it as thinly-veiled or just out-and-out hostile. There was the time they admonished two hugging swimmers “steady on chaps” and compared it to the manly slaps of another team.
But then, exasperatingly, they showed a heterosexual medal-winning couple kissing with the caption “GOLDEN KISS.” Okay, got it: two men hugging requires steadying, while a straight embrace is a thing of beauty.
As you would imagine, some of the comments at the end of this article don’t think this is a form of passive aggressive homophobia.
Ryan Lochte Apologizes
I’m sure most of you have been following the story of Olympic swimmer, Ryan Lochte, and how he claimed he was robbed, but police in Brazil claim he wasn’t robbed.
It’s been trending all week, and Lochte finally made what sounds like a genuine apology.
“I wanted to apologize for my behavior last weekend — for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympics,” he said Friday on Instagram.
I’m not sure what to make of this one yet. Most people have found him guilty everywhere I’ve been. I prefer to wait and see. I don’t like to speculate. You can read all the details at the link above.

Null had been working for the network’s morning show, “Early Start,” for the past three years. On Wednesday, the show’s anchor, Christine Romans, shared the news with viewers.
“It is with a heavy heart that we report tragic news of one of our own this morning,” a teary-eyed Romans said. “A cause of death has not been revealed.”
