Nick Jonas On Gay Baiting and Sexuality; "American Male" Short Film About Hyper-masculinity; Why Gay Men Care About Youth

Nick Jonas On Gay Baiting and Sexuality

Here’s yet another clickbait article about Nick Jonas.

Later in the interview, he touches upon the criticism he’s faced for his support of the LGBTQ community and accusations of gay-baiting. “I’m totally aware of my intentions in and any and all of my attempts to be an ally to the gay community,” he says. “Starting in theatre growing into the performer I am today, I’ve made so many great friends belonging to the LGBT community . The positive impact is 10 times more important that the negative comments.”

You can read more here. I’m not slamming Jonas, but I’m not sure about his take on the positive impact, at least not according the to comments with this article.

“American Male” Short Film About Hyper-masculinity

There’s a new short film out titled, American Male, and it gets into the topic of how gay men sometimes overcompensate to appear masculine. Gay men do this all the time, and sometimes they aren’t even aware they are doing it. And those who are in the closet make it a full time hobby. I have seen it, and at times done it, myself. I’ve even included this with characters in my books.

American Male tells the story of a college student who feels the urgent need to prove his masculinity to both himself and his fraternity brothers. In the process, however, he is forced to suppress his own sexual desires, and bury the parts of his personality that might be seen as too “feminine.”

Here’s a link to the rest, and there’s a trailer. It mentions how women in school are supposed to hold their books up to their chests and men are supposed to hold them at their sides…the butch, manly way. I think most gay men came across that one growing up.

I’ll be watching this one.

Why Gay Men Care About Youth

Here’s an article that talks about the obsession some gay men have with youth. They claim it’s a stereotype, as if this whole concept only applies to gay men. But I’m not so sure about that. I think we’re all living in a youth culture, not just gay men. And many people do care about looking young.

Now, silver fox/psychotherapist Matthew Dempsey says he has the answer as to why so many gay men remain so fixated on staying youthful. He says that it all boils down to money and consumerism and the way companies market their products to younger people who are generally more likely to throw their cash away on frivolous things.

You can read the rest here.

Admittedly, I’m as guilty as anyone else when it comes to holding on to that last ounce of youth. I haven’t had pizza or donuts in years. I have products with Argireline in my bathroom.  But I don’t think this is just about gay men, at least not anymore, and if you read the comments with this one most people seem to agree with me.

Orlando Bloom’s Ordinary Dick Pic; Dennis Rodman Broke His Penis; Identifying As Gay and Trans

Orlando Bloom’s Ordinary Dick Pic

I’ve seen this happen in a few places online…a different kind of commentary about Orlando Bloom’s dicks pics last week.  Not everyone is as impressed or shocked as some might have imagined they would be. A few think it’s rather ordinary.

We like to think that we live in a show-all culture, with few boundaries—but still the exhibition of a penis or vagina in public is considered too much. These are known as “private parts” for a reason. Despite showing ourselves on so many social media platforms, despite all the peacocking of our bodies, we are prudish and sensitive about showing it all off.

And this…

We like to think that we live in a show-all culture, with few boundaries—but still the exhibition of a penis or vagina in public is considered too much. These are known as “private parts” for a reason. Despite showing ourselves on so many social media platforms, despite all the peacocking of our bodies, we are prudish and sensitive about showing it all off.

You can read the rest here. It’s entertaining and I think the general point is spot on. I also think it’s worth mentioning that when I post about male full frontal nudity in films, as a form or art in films, I’m not talking about leaked dick pics to the media. The two are totally different topics.

Dennis Rodman Broke His Penis

Here’s an article about how Dennis Rodman broke his penis…three times…during sex.

The former Chicago Bulls basketball player says he first broke his penis during a sexual encounter onboard his boat in Dallas, Texas after “drinking and partying” throughout the day. Rodman says when the incident took place, his partner was screaming, “Oh my God, he is dead. I have killed him.” To which the 55-year-old replied: “No honey. I just broke my d**k”.

It goes on to explain the other two times. Here’s the link

Identifying As Gay and Trans

I think a lot of people are curious about this topic, and mainly because it hasn’t been discussed much at all. People don’t always understand. I’ve known more than a few trans people in my time, and I do understand it, but a lot of people out there don’t really know much. The main point here is to listen.

We know it can be an awfully tough concept for some to wrap their heads around, but it bears repeating — sexuality and gender identity are two different things.

Just as there are men who are attracted to men and men who are attracted to women, so too are there trans women into guys and trans women into women. The same goes for any way you want to combine identities and interests.

Most of the trans women I’ve known have been into women. But that’s just a generalization on my part. It doesn’t have to work out that way.  You can check the rest out here.

Dick Pic Lady and Shame on Facebook; The Alleged Calvin Harris Dick Pic A Lie?; Big Brother’s Big Gay Kiss

Dick Pic Lady and Shame On Facebook

This struck me as peculiar, only because the woman got so much public support.

I’ve already posted about this, and this is a follow up…however, in short: a woman posted a restaurant review on Facebook, some guy sent her an unsolicited dick pic in a PM afterward, and she was so frustrated she sent him a barrage of censored dick pics in retaliation. I saw her photos and they were censored. She was hoping to teach him a lesson.

Then Facebook, in all its wisdom and glory, did this to the woman. Evidently, they don’t have enough time to spend on allegedly censoring political news.

After the post was shared thousands of times, she told the BBC, “I feel like Beyoncé. I’ve had messages from all over the world, including Germany, Netherlands and even Aruba. People have been saying ‘You’re my inspiration’ and ‘You’ve won the internet’. I’ve also had guys also saying sorry on behalf of men. I’m so shocked.”

However, Facebook chose to remove her post and deactivate her account, making this the most recent example of Facebook’s questionable content-removal decisions.

If anyone else has ever experienced this on Facebook, you know what this poor woman is up against.

You can read the rest here.

The Alleged Calvin Harris Dick Pic A Lie?

While searching for articles about the woman above, I ran across this one. Keep in mind this is all alleged…and the article makes this clear, too.

According to Radar Online, a pic that’s being described as a “Calvin Harris dick pic” is making it’s way around the interwebz.

For those who don’t know, Harris was with Taylor Swift and they’re not a couple any longer.

You can read the rest here.

And this web site claims the entire story is false.

Calvin Harris did not send a “dick pic” to a music executive, despite a new questionable report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this. We’re told the claim is a “total lie.”

Big Brother’s Big Gay Kiss

I know I’ve mentioned before over the years that I’m a huge Big Brother fan. I have been since the very first season. And it’s the only reality show I actually watch, and ever watched.

Now Big Brother UK is making news for a big gay kiss. Back when BB first aired, I never, ever thought I would see anything like this happen. It just wasn’t done back then. Hillary Clinton was still deciding whether or not to support gay marriage…hell, she hadn’t “evolved” yet.

The story so far: Ryan, caught in a stompy drama spiral, comes storming into the house after a fray with Sam Giffen, but that spite melts away instantaneously and gives way to cutesy passion as he spies Hughie and says, “I’ve missed you 20/10.” (Erm, what does that mean?) Then there’s some wanton embracing on a sofa, which gives way to passionate kissing and rumply microphone feedback.

There’s a video with a kiss…AND, legs go up, too.

You can check that one out here.

Gawker Files For Bankruptcy; Noah Galvin Backpedals on Colton Haynes Comments; Circumcised At 25

Gawker Files For Bankruptcy

I’ve posted about the Gawker situation with the Hulk Hogan lawsuit a few times. Here’s a follow up.

The media company just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the wake of the $140 million lawsuit it lost to Hulk Hogan, who sued the company for invasion of privacy after it leaked his sex tape in 2012.

Shortly after the verdict, it was revealed that openly gay Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel had personally financed Hogan’s lawsuit in an act of revenge against the company for trying to out him back in 2007. (Talk about an angry queen with a grudge.)

If you read the comments you’ll see that someone alleges this goes much deeper than the article I’m linking to is willing to admit…or understands. I have no idea how true they are.

Here’s the link.

Noah Galvin Backpedals on Colton Haynes Comments

Earlier this week I posted about Noah Galvin making strong comments about closeted gays in Hollywood, and the way Colton Haynes came out. Colton Haynes defended himself somewhere on social media and now Galvin is saying something different.

I have no right to dictate how or when anybody comes out of the closet; I know how difficult and scary the process of coming out can be, and the last thing I would ever want to do is make it scarier.

He also backpedals on everything else he said, including the “diddle” remark. You can read them all here.

Seriously. You can’t make these things up.

But I have said many times before here on this blog that coming out can’t be forced, and everyone does it in a different way…a way that’s most comfortable for them.

The comments, however, are some of the most cynical I’ve seen in a long, long time.

I think one of the most ironic aspects to this entire article is that most people out there don’t know who the hell most of these people are.

Circumcised At 25

Here’s the story of a guy who got circumcised when he was 25 years old. But he did this for valid medical reasons.

This part is a little graphic because they don’t use medical terms…you’ve been warned.

Wills was born with phimosis, a rare condition where the foreskin of the penis is so tight it can’t retract to expose the head. Phimosis affects just 1 percent of males 17 and older.

“My foreskin was strangling the head of my penis,” he recalls. “[It] was so tight it would fill up like a balloon when I peed and I had to, like, milk my dick like it was an udder just to get the piss out. And it would spray everywhere.”

You can check this out here. There are a lot of opinions in the comments, as you would well imagine.

Waka Flocka Flame and Writers; Pierre Fitch Is In Beast Mode; Top Gun’s Campy Gay Legacy

Waka Flocka Flame and Writers

I’ve always believed that unless you’re writing historical fiction, writers should at least be aware of the most basic elements of what’s going on in the world around them. I’m talking about news, politics, pop culture, technology, publishing, and more. No one has to be an expert and you can always do the research as something comes up. But if you’re writing fiction nowadays, and you’re writing about people living in the year 2016, and you don’t know certain basic things that could be a problem. You don’t have to be an expert. I’m talking basics.

Of course if your characters are backward and they don’t know how to use a smart phone, and they don’t know what Twitter is, and they don’t know how to DM, that’s fine. But I remember a shop owner when I owned my art gallery in New Hope when he tried to make his campy little gift shop more “high end.” He said he wanted to change the entire gift shop and fill it with high end furniture. And that was all well and good, but he’d never even stepped into a high end furniture store in his life, let alone bought anything high end for himself. In other words, he was clueless and his shop ultimately failed because he filled it with the ugliest things you’ll ever see.

In any event, you get my general point, so here’s a link about Waka Flocka Flame. I like him, but that’s not what this is about. Waka Flocka Flame is part of pop culture now and he’s relevant to a lot of other people, and some of them might be the characters in your next novel. Unless, again, you’re only writing about people who are either too elite to know things like this, or they just don’t care to learn anymore. In many cases it’s all about the context.

And, this is just my own personal POV. You don’t have to agree with me. That’s fine, too.

Pierre Fitch Is In Beast Mode

Now here’s something I think is relevant, partly because I’m a writer writing gay romance and partly because I love the whole thing. Pierre Fitch is an adult entertainer and he just started a new fitness web site called Everything Is Beast Mode. He’s been pitching it on Facebook and he’s getting a lot of responses from men and women of all ages. And I think that’s because he’s doing it very well. And who isn’t at least a little curious about fitness? I kill myself running every morning, all year long, in all kinds of weather.

I’m an all around fitness enthusiast dude who aims to spread awareness about different techniques and encourage more people to get into shape and feel great about themselves.

I focus on calisthenics, powerlifting, martial arts, and yoga but I appreciate almost any method or technique that’s about getting into shape and pushing you to your limits.

Although I lift weights, I also believe in working out without equipment just by using your own body weight.

You can check all this out here. And here’s a link to the web site. I think most of the information you’ll need you’ll find on the Facebook page.

I follow a lot of celebrities on social media and I have to say that Pierre Fitch is one of the nicest I’ve come across…ever. And he posts a lot of great photos you’ll enjoy.

Top Gun’s Gay Legacy

When I wrote my parody of Top Gun that I titled, Big, Bad, and On Top, I honestly didn’t even realize the connection to gay culture. I just thought it would be an interesting thing to parody, with all gay characters as a campy gay erotic romance. Evidently, I was on to something bigger.

While the film may have fit appropriately into the confines of mid ’80s mainstream masculinity, the Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer bro-fest now rests squarely in the gay camp/innuendo corner. Chalk it up to shifting perceptions and a more knowledgeable public when it comes to gay subtext.

You can read the rest here.

And here’s a link to my book, Big Bad and On Top, at Amazon. I got one great review for this one, and two reviewers completely missed the entire point that this was, indeed, a campy gay parody. It wasn’t a “rip off.” It was marketed by me and the publisher as parody at the time, and it’s still being marketed that way now. It was never meant to win a Pulitzer Prize.

But here’s the kind of homophobia I’ve faced from reviewers over the years, and always when I’ve openly and honestly parodied a mainstream story as gay.

I must have seen TOP GUN a hundred times – loved that movie. But I never wished that Tom Cruise was gay. If you did then this is your lucky day and you should read it.

She/he gave me one star. And that is a homophobic statement above. But I never got angry about reviews like this. I’m glad they are still there. I knew at the time that one day I would use this review as an example. I knew it would take time, and I’d rather leave these things up forever to let other people see this kind of homophobia.

Trump On Gays, Again; Nick Hawk’s Million Dollar Dick; Stars Who Will Perform In North Carolina

Trump On Gays, Again

Before I even get started, remember the old saying “don’t shoot the messenger.” In other words, I post these things objectively and it doesn’t mean I’m supporting one candidate over another. I don’t think it would be fair to my readers if I got too political here on this blog. I want them to feel comfortable when they come here, because there are very few places where we can feel comfortable anymore.

In any event, here’s an article about an article that I thought was interesting on Trump and gays.

A New York Times article portrayed Donald Trump as possibly a bit pro-gay, or at least not as antigay as other GOP candidates, and the HuffPo’s Michelangelo Signorile is frothing mad.

It all started with veteran reporter Maggie Haberman’s piece “Donald Trump’s More Accepting Views on Gay Issues Set Him Apart in G.O.P.,” an article that is, quite frankly, full of more anecdotal evidence of Trump’s alleged gay-friendliness than any kind of real facts about the matter.

You can read the rest here. The comments are worth reading, too.

I think we’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the future.

Nick Hawk’s Million Dollar Dick

I honestly don’t even know who Nick Hawk is, because I don’t watch reality TV much anymore. The only reality show I really like is Big Brother and that’s only because I’ve been following it since season one…like a hundred years ago.

Gigolos star Nick Hawk just insured his penis for $1 million because, hey, you can never be too careful with your moneymaker, amirite?

Cosmopolitan caught up with the ripped reality star and asked him the questions that would be on our minds if we interviewed him: namely why, how, and…what about theft?

It’s all in good fun. I can’t remember the name of the actor, but when I was a kid I remember some other C-lister did something like this just for the sake of publicity. He drifted off into oblivion, which is why I can’t even remember his name. Everybody gets old, even Nick Hawk and his dick. He may as well use IT to his advantage while he still can.

You can read the rest here.

Don’t miss the comments.

Stars Who Will Perform In North Carolina

I think I’ve posted before about how some stars are boycotting the entire state of North Carolina in protest against a new law that’s allegedly anti-gay.

But many stars WILL continue to support their fans in North Carolina and they have no intention of letting this law harm people more than it already has. In fact, stars we love like Cyndi Lauper will perform in NC and will donate the proceeds to LGBT organizations.

“I think for some artists they feel like they can make a difference with their business and some artists feel like they can make a difference being there and supporting their fans that are part of the community,” Cam said. “Why leave them alone? So yeah, it’s kind of a hard thing. I don’t actually have to make that choice currently, but I feel like I’d like to go there just to be with my fans.”

You can check out the rest here. This law has caused so much outrage even PayPal is holding back on a new 400 employee venture in Charlotte.

It was only about six years ago we were all boycotting PayPal for alleged censorship…interesting.

Greg Scarnici On Paul Reubens; Harvey Levin On Growing Up Gay; Randy Blue Performer Overdoses

Greg Scarnici On Paul Reubens

This opinion piece is by Greg Scarnici that talks about how he feels about Paul Reubens of Pee Wee Herman fame. It’s an opinion piece and I’m not going to comment for that reason.

Here’s a short excerpt from a very in-depth piece that I found fascinating.

You might be wondering why this is such a problem for me. Well, as an openly gay comedic artist, I think it’s important that successful men like Paul Reubens talk about their sexuality. Am I insinuating he is gay? Sure, but he has been doing the exact same thing through his work ever since he came on the scene — and continues to in his latest film — which features a relationship with Joe Manganiello he himself describes as, “a bit of a bromance.”

I highly suggest you go here and read the rest of it

The comments surprised me. This one refers to Paul Reubens…

I don’t care about his sex life. God forbid he have some privacy.

The problem with that is being gay is NOT about sex, or someone’s sex life.

Harvey Levin On Growing Up Gay

For those who might not know, Harvey Levin founded TMZ, the celebrity news outlet that’s everywhere. And he’s openly gay. In this article he talks about growing up gay in a world where that wasn’t easy.  It’s a direct contrast to a celebrity like Paul Ruebens…and countless others…who never talk about it in public.

Here’s an excerpt, verbatim…

When I was a teenager, I found myself in a profound internal struggle—what I perceived as a mandate to live a “straight” life, despite contrary feelings that were welling to the surface. I thought I did a pretty good job sublimating those feelings, but someone close to me had a good sense of what was really going on. That person went on with what felt like a homophobic campaign, denigrating LGBT people with epithets and snide comments—without ever confronting me directly.

Here’s the rest, and there’s a photo of Levin that shows how attractive he is, too. At least I’ve always thought he was.

Randy Blue Performer Overdoses

Here’s another painful story from the world of gay male adult entertainment.

According to this article, Xander Scott, adult performer, died from an alleged drug overdose.

It’s not a long piece, but you can check that out here.

Very sad, indeed.
