It’s NaNoWriMo time again. For those who don’t know, that means National Novel Writing Month.
Basically, it’s an event that challenges writers to write a novel in one month. I’ve never actually done NaNoWriMo, but I did once write a hetero pg romance novel in three weeks for a special home shopping TV event…with a pen name.
It wasn’t easy. And I don’t ever want to do it again. But it was a challenge and I am glad I did it. The novel did well on TV with a group of other romance novels, but tanked in sales after that because I never bothered to promote it. But I’m glad I did it, and not just for the financial reasons. Though it was intense, I proved to myself that I could actually do it.
I would recommend NaNoWriMo to any writer just for the sake of seeing how much you can do in one month. It’s not impossible. I know this because I did it under contract with a deadline. You never know what might come as a result. And it’s a novel you can always shop around to publishers when you’re finished.
