Why Google Glass Failed

There is more than one theory out there about why Google Glass failed. First, here’s mine.

It was too much too soon. There are still people who don’t know how facebook works. There are still people who don’t even understand the basics of twitter. There are still people who are proud to admit they love the musty old smell of print books and will never read digital. And there are still people who will never let go of their land lines. I could list a dozen or so more reasons why GG was too much too soon. But you get my point. There’s still an entire generation that has to die off before we’re all reading digital books and “wearable technology” is something standard.

Goggle Glass was, indeed, way ahead of its time. But I don’t think it failed. I think it’s just the beginning of more to come.

This article lists three viable reasons why Google Glass failed.

. Let’s Not Forget Privacy Concerns

Let’s face it, Google Glass was creepy. If you ever ran into someone wearing a pair in the wild — and that was rare outside of Silicon Valley — the mind would fill up with plenty of problematic questions. Is he recording me? Is she checking my online profile? Is he watching porn?

Movie theaters were the first to stop Google Glass-donning patrons at the door. Some bars, event venues and restaurants followed suit. It made surrounding guests uncomfortable. Someone could always whip out a phone or camcorder and start recording in a public place, but with Google Glass you just didn’t know if you were in a frame of a recorded clip.

Of course I personally think this reason is idiotic, however, I agree with it 100% as far as why the failure happened.

You can read the rest here.

Gays Own Jeb Bush Web Site

Frankly, I think this is a little silly…if not self-indulgent. Although I’ll admit I’m not certain where Jeb Bush stands on all gay issues (he is pro-civil union), I know for a fact the Bush family, including George Sr. and Barbara, are far from anti-gay. In fact, the senior Bushes were part of a legal lesbian wedding ceremony a year or so ago in Maine…a small ceremony with intimate friends. So with of all the enemies the LGBT community has these days, I’m not sure I would consider Jeb Bush one of them.

In any event, here’s why two grown gay men are thrilled to own the JebBushforPresident web site.

Domain owners CJ Phillips and Charlie Rainwater, from Oregon, purchased the site name in 2008, ready for the former Florida governor to enter the race.

Instead of promoting the Republican politician, however, they’re planning on using it for LGBTI advocacy.

‘This page is intended to prompt understanding, insight, and healthy dialogue in the ever changing landscape of civil rights and social justice,’ they said.

I’m thrilled they’re going to use it for LGBT advocacy. We can always use more of that. On the other hand, I also doubt Jeb Bush is losing much sleep over this.

Now tell me you bought the Rick Santorum web site and I’ll cheer the loudest. THAT one is the one to watch out for. Tell me you bought the Huckabee domain and I might do a happy dance. Between Santorum and Huckabee I’m not sure which one is worst. And, there are others who are far more dangerous than Jeb Bush.

Gareth Thomas Slams Perez Hilton

Here’s another name to add to the Perez Hilton proverbial hit list: Gareth Thomas, an openly gay ruby player. In an unusually vicious way, Thomas publicly slammed Hilton as a “bad example of a human.” Hilton is a house guest on the current Celebrity Big Brother in the UK right now.

The retired rugby player took to Twitter today to explain why he’s having a tough time stomaching the current season of Celebrity Big Brother: Perez Hilton.

‘Every time I flick onto CBB, I have to immediately turn it over as soon as I see Perez Hilton,’ he tweeted. ‘Rather not see that bad example of a human.’

Of course you have to understand that Perez Hilton has no idea all this hate is being thrown his way because as a house guest on Big Brother he’s completely sequestered from the outside world. So Hilton really can’t even defend himself. I know this because I’ve been watching BB in the US since the very first season and I know the game well.

There are actually crowds on the street jeering and calling for Hilton to be voted out of the house. And then this happened, too:

Hilton recently branded outspoken columnist Katie Hopkins homophobic when she advised him to take criticism ‘like a man.’

Frankly, if Katie Hopkins said that to me I’d tell her to go fuck herself. I don’t like that kind of tone because it insinuates shame to the gay man because he’s not acting like “the man.” And nothing works better and a good old fashioned fuck you, baby.

But I digress. As I said, I’ve been following Big Brother as a game in the US since 2000 and I don’t think I’ve ever seen any house guest play a perfect, honest game. This game has nothing to do with goodness and smiles or being a great human being. The object of this game is to do anything and everything in order to win the grand prize. There’s nothing considered too vicious in this game and the one who plays the dirtiest game usually wins. It’s expected.

I won’t comment anymore on this because my New Year’s resolution is that I’m not slamming gay people anymore at all on this blog…unless it’s something unthinkable. But I do find it interesting that Gareth Thomas opened his big fucking mouth that way. And I’m not even the biggest fan Perez Hilton has because I don’t like his brand of blogging. I just don’t think it’s wise to slam other gay people when we’re all getting the same slaps in the face daily by douchecanoes like Katie Hopkins who come from places of privilege.  That’s why we’re a minority.

The rest of this hot mess is here.

Big Brother 16 Homophobic & Racist; 14 Loving Moments World Pride; Jonah Sweeet of Delancey Street by Ryan Field

Big Brother 16 Homophobic & Racist

Last summer I posted about the vicious racism some Big Brother house guests showed during the season. Before that, I posted about homophobic comments made by another Big Brother contestant, Jeff Schroeder. At least the house guests last summer were called on their racism. Jeff Schroeder to this day has never been questioned or confronted once about his homophobic rant about a Harry Potter character being gay. And once again, there’s a new contestant on Big Brother 16, Caleb Reynolds, who has allegedly left both homophobic and racist posts on Instagram. He is a self-proclaimed “metrosexual” even though I don’t know anyone who even uses that word anymore. I’m quoting below, verbatim, so be prepared to read one of the most offensive racist comments I’ve ever seen about gays and the President of the US.

Caleb Reynolds, a self-described ‘metrosexual cowboy’ from Kentucky, reportedly wrote on Instagram after the 2012 reelection of US President Barack Obama: ‘You believe in murder? You agree with fags? I guess so but I don’t agree with murdering a innocent baby which he clearly doesn’t mind. Nothin has changed in these last four years. Your just a democrat that wants that Muslim monkey in office. I’m done with you, your dismissed.’

As usual, someone deleted the post, but not before someone else was smart enough to get screen shots.

You can read more here.

If this is, in fact, true, they should cut him from the show for those comments. I’m starting to wonder about the whole Big Brother vetting process. Did they know about this ahead of time and put him on just to create controversy? Or are they just idiots?

Either way, it’s a dangerous game. People will get tired of this and they will stop watching. There are plenty of people out there who are not homophobic or racist who deserve a chance at a half a million dollars.

14 Loving Moments World Pride

In a more positive article, there’s a list of 14 loving moments from World Pride. This year it was hosted in Canada.

Hosted in Toronto, the city attracted hundreds of thousands of attendees to the main festivities at the weekend.

Downtown was transformed with rainbow colors, and if that wasn’t enough, a double rainbow shined down from the sky in the early evening.

You can check them out here.

It looks as if the entire city…even police cars…were adorned in rainbows.

Anti-Gay Chants Dismissed; Obama Equal Benefits; Mark Ruffalo Deserved to Win; Mr. Gay Europe

Anti Gay Chants Dismissed

Miguel Herrera is the soccer coach of the Mexican World Cup team. When Mexican fans start shouting anti-gay chants he doesn’t think it is important and he recently brushed it off as just fans participating in the game. They’ve been chanting things like “Puto” and it is angering other fans and people who care about rights.

Herrera said this:

‘About the chants, we don’t have anything to say, we are going to concentrate in working hard, that is what corresponds to us,’ said Herrera. ‘We support our fan base. They just do it to put pressure on the other goalkeeper.’

‘That chant was invented in the Mexican league by one team and all the Mexican fan base has adopted it, therefore I don’t think it is something that serious.’

‘I think for us there is more important stuff to solve than a chant that is just an expression to put pressure on the other goalkeeper that has been taking place in Mexico since a long time ago.’

I “get” what he’s saying. I don’t agree with it, but I get it. The problem is that I doubt Herrera would like it much of the fans started chanting in his direction with comments like, “Hey you ugly pencil dick fuck with the bad haircut and cheap suit. Get your big nose out of your ass.” (There’s a photo of him at the link below.)

Of course I would never advocate that, and I would never do it myself. I’m just showing an example that it works both ways. And I doubt he’d be too thrilled with that. That’s why we have limits.

Obama Equal Benefits

I have to admit that even though the Obama administration seems to be dealing with one crisis after the other these days, the President is aware of civil rights and he continues to support the LGBTI community.

On Friday 20 June, the White House made a statement regarding government benefits for gay people in the US. These include social security, veterans benefits and work leave to care for a sick partner.

In case anyone doesn’t realize it, this is huge for LGBTI people. We’ve gone from getting nothing at all to almost being equal in a matter of a few short years. There’s still a long way to go for many of us. But at least moves like this push us in the right direction…and I hope encourage more closeted gays to come out.

Whether the President realizes it or not, he’s not just pushing equal rights forward, he is also helping to rid us all of so many years of self-loathing.

Mark Ruffalo Deserved to Win

This is one of THE main reasons why I don’t participate in, or even care much about, awards of any kind. Matt Bomer recently won the Critics’ Choice Award for his performance in The Normal Heart and I was a little surprised. Don’t get me wrong, I think he was excellent in the film. And as part of the entire collaboration he helped make the film what it is. However, I clearly think Mark Ruffalo gave the award winning performance in The Normal Heart, hands down.

Among those Bomer beat out for the award was his co-star Joe Mantello. Bomer’s on-screen partner, Mark Ruffalo, lost the Lead Actor prize to Billy Bob Thorton who won for Fargo.

I realize Bomer won for best supporting actor and Ruffalo was up for best lead actor, but if anyone really deserved to win anything for that film is was Ruffalo. I think someone should start an Internet campaign and give Ruffalo his own award. In fact, I recently saw Ruffalo in Now You See Me, and he was even better in that film. Matt Bomer, whom I love, plays Matt Bomer very well in everything he does. Ruffalo BECOMES his characters and never repeats himself in any film…and he doesn’t have to take his shirt or pants off to do it.

There’s also a list of other winners. The Normal Heart won best movie. In some cases it seems more like a popularity contest, as usual. But then that’s what most awards are all about. I hear you can even buy yourself an award nowadays on the Internet if you want that kind of credit and very few people will even know you did that.

Mr. Gay Europe

Speaking of awards and winners, a new piece of blond boy ass (I remember that line…”blond boy ass”…from Queer as Folk) recently became Mr. Europe.

Meet Mr Gay Europe, a 20-year-old Swede named Jack Johansson.

A ballet student and performer, he was the youngest competitor of the 15 delegates vying for the crown of (young, male, hairless from the neck down) gay Europe.

Stuart Hatton Jr. whom I posted about here earlier this month was in the TOP four…no pun intended.

There’s more here.  And there’s nice photo of Johansson.
