RIP Joan Rivers
Last week I posted about Joan Rivers having a simple endoscopic procedure in a Manhattan clinic where she went into cardiac arrest. It shocked me that any clinic would take an 81 year old as an outpatient without considering the risks. My own mother has had several of these procedures this past year and her doctors insisted she have them in a hospital just in case there were any complications. My mother also suffered a heart attack during one and thankfully in her case she was in a hospital.
In any event, Rivers was rushed from the clinic to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan immediately, where she was put in a coma to try and heal the damage that had been done. Over the weekend they slowly tried bringing her out of the coma. Unfortunately, Rivers lost her battle this afternoon and passed quietly at 1:17.
Her daughter, Melissa, issued this statement:
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” Melissa Rivers said in a written statement today. “She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.”
