Is Hollywood As We Know It Over? Straight Guys Hooking Up With Gay Men; Stripped Of Everything

Is Hollywood As We Know It Over?

A friend sent me this link and I thought it was interesting enough to post about from a pop culture POV. It’s a long piece that talks about the end of Hollywood as we’ve always known it, and it mentions other industries that have been changing and evolving. The problem seems to be that no one told Hollywood yet.

Hollywood, these days, seems remarkably poised for a similar disruption. Its audiences increasingly prefer on-demand content, its labor is costly, and margins are shrinking. Yet when I ask people in Hollywood if they fear such a fate, their response is generally one of defiance. Film executives are smart and nimble, but many also assert that what they do is so specialized that it can’t be compared to the sea changes in other disrupted media. “We’re different,” one producer recently told me. “No one can do what we do.”

You can read the rest here. I think anyone involved in any creative industry should be thinking about how they will evolve. It stands to reason. Just look at how popular you tube stars have become, without the help of Hollywood as we’ve always known it.

I think this has been a long time coming. Just the way Hollywood as a concept treats gays is backward at best.

Straight Guys Hooking Up With Gay Men

This topic never seems to end. Only this time it’s a little different.

So, yeah, straight guys hooking up with other guys is nothing new.

But GQ‘s article has a slightly different take on the subject. Rather than talking with the straight guys, they spoke with the gay guys who have found themselves ensnared in these complex, complicated, and often loveless relationships.

There’s more here.  I know someone who was involved with a straight married guy for years and only saw him on the down low. It’s not something I would recommend anyone doing. That’s not a healthy relationship and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Stripped Of Everything

Here’s a new reality show where people have everything taken away from them.

Those are the rules to Bravo’s new reality show, which finds out how long its hapless contestants can live after being stripped of all their possessions.

We’re sure producers throw other obstacles their way, too, like abused lions and heat-seeking missiles.

You can check that out here. I think this kind of reality TV has helped end Hollywood as we’ve always known it.
