India Gay Sex Ban
Earlier this week I posted about how a colonial-era law banning gay sex was recently upheld in India. And there has evidently been outrage over this all over the world.
Count me in.
On the official Day of Rage Facebook page, an organizer said: ‘This judgment has inspired anger across different sections of society around the world. ‘While the legal battle continues, it is important that we make our voices heard. Loud and Clear. They add: ‘It is time we begin to heal this lasting scar of colonialism. It is time we are given the space and freedom to pursue the work of fundamental social change which is made impossible with a law such as Sec. 377 of the Indian Penal Code choking us.
If you’re on facebook you can join here…in case the link doesn’t work on the page I’m linking to…or you’re too tired to click the link. So far I see there are only about 1,000 members. This is important. Social media had proven in the past there is power in numbers to make changes. You can be part of the change. At least join up. It’s free and it’s doing a whole lot more than just clicking like for pet adoption or something that may or may not be valid on facebook.
Burn Gays!
Just when you think you’ve heard it all coming from Russia, something like this happens and you start shaking your head all over again. A well known Russian actor…that’s really not an oxymoron…now states in public he wants to burn gays. Put them in ovens and burn them. This is an “actor” who is playing a part in the Russian version of the tired old US TV show, “Scrubs,” a sitcom actor in Russia.
He’s not very attractive and I would imagine his sense of humor is about as far off as his hairstyle.
Here’s a direct quote:
‘I’d put them all alive in the oven…it’s a living danger to my children,’ Okhlobystin said, according to RIA Novosti.
Speaking with fans in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk, the father of six went on an extended rant about ‘gay fascism’. He demanded ‘faggots’ be stripped of their voting rights as they are a ‘psychical anomaly’.
This comment and this attitude is significant for many reasons, but the most important, for me, is how closely it resembles Nazi attitudes toward gays, Jews, and other minorities during the 1930’s and 40’s. History always repeats itself and I don’t think we’re taking this seriously enough right now. The first thing we need to do is call for a united ban against the Russian Olympics and stop thinking about advertising dollars for once. The second thing we should do is investigate this Russian actor and dox him within an inch of his life. I’m sure there’s a story there.
I hope one of his six kids is gay. Karma sucks sometimes.
Bob Newhart Anti-Gay Group
GLAAD has recently reached out to entertainer Bob Newhart to cancel an engagement with an anti-gay organization. The premise is that they (GLAAD) don’t think Newhart knows this is an anti-gay organization. They are asking Newhart not to become the next Kirk Cameron. Cameron was a child actor in a popular sitcom I can’t recall who grew up, turned into an anti-gay right wing Christian, and I don’t think has ever done anything significant in Hollywood again.
GLAAD is asking TV comedy legend Bob Newhart to not keep his engagement next year with the conservative Catholic organization which maintains that homosexuality is a disorder. Newhart, 84, is scheduled to appear at a summit for Letagus along with noted anti-LGBT figures Rick Santorum and Bill Donohue.
That’s a scary list of people I wouldn’t want to be associated with even if I were straight. And that’s the interesting thing about these right wing groups. We have tolerance for them and we don’t mind what they’re doing, or how they’re living their lives. We wouldn’t be associated with them on a social level by any means. I would bet an hour with Santorum or Kirk Cameron would be the equivalent to the fresh hells of Sunday school…or watching reruns of Cameron’s old sitcom. But we believe they have the right to live their lives the most natural way for them. That’s all we’re asking.
I would bet if anyone were to dig deep enough they’d find more than plenty of dirt on all of them. We’re too nice sometimes. We need to play harder and dirtier.
