“Team Foxcatcher” No Gay Angle

I’m not going to spend much time reviewing this documentary, Team Foxcatcher, because of the way it was done. There was a *possible* gay angle to this story and it has consistently been ignored each time something else comes out about it.

This is what I’m talking about. And you have to go back to 1996 to read this. In fact, this is what we were reading locally in 1996.

The strongest suggestion of du Pont’s sexual orientation was a previous sexual harassment suit against him. In 1988, Andre Metzger, who had been assistant wrestling coach at Villanova University’s du Pont-funded-and-run wrestling program, filed suit against du Pont. Metzger claimed he lost his coaching job because he refused to leave his wife and become du Pont’s lover.

But it was impossible to get any real details of what happened because the case was settled out of court. Norristown lawyer Frank P. Morris, who represented Metzger, refused to comment at all, and Metzger (who now lives in Oklahoma) would give only the vaguest remarks to the press, like “I hope the whole truth comes out.”

Almost everything else was hearsay and innuendo.

I will say this about Team Foxcatcher. In their attempt to cover up even a possible gay angle, they made it perfectly clear that John du Pont was a master at manipulation and he knew how to control everyone around him with his power and money.

They also showed real footage of how much he enjoyed rolling around on the mat himself, with young guys wearing singlets.

Illegal Sex Sting Operations and Gay Men Ruling

Yesterday I posted about how cruising public bathrooms in Wilton Manors, Florida was getting out of hand, so to speak. But here’s a different side to the story of cruising, where gay men are targeted in places like public bathrooms, and then lured into having sex with undercover cops who are posing as decoys. The gay men wind up getting arrested instead.

“The presence and tactics of the decoy officers actually caused the crimes to occur,” Dhanidina said.

Prosecutors had tried arguing that the LBPD had based its policing tactics on citizen complaints about lewd conduct in men’s public restrooms, but Dhanidin was not convinced. In his ruling, he said the department failed to provide any evidence of such complaints and that officers had “intentionally targeted men who engaged in homosexual sex” simply because they were homosexual.

Here’s the rest.

John Kasich On Gay People

Like most people out there, I really don’t have much time or energy invested in John Kasich, however this is amusing.

It’s probably not helping that he’s making disastrous appearances like his recent Q&A at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, where an audience member asked him a bunch of questions on LGBT topics. Are we born gay, the man wanted to know, and Kasich answered:

“You know, sir, probably. I mean, I don’t, I don’t know how it all works, Okay? I mean, look. Are they? You know, probability they are. Okay?” Well, great, thanks for clearing that up. You clearly have a firm grasp on the situation, John.

To be fair, I don’t think Kasich is homophobic in a hateful way. I just think he’s clueless and hasn’t bothered to take the time to learn a little more. He may or may not have underestimated the LGBT community…and the votes that he may or may not have lost by underestimating them…and their friends and family members.
