How Gay Marriage Won

I know I’m preaching to the proverbial choir with this one, but I wanted to put it down in writing just in case someone, somewhere, does a simple search.

The other night at a party someone told me they’d voted for a particular politician…twice…because that politician “gave us gay marriage.” It doesn’t matter who the politician is. It could have been anyone. But I was stunned to hear a gay man say something like that, without even acknowledging the legal battles over the years that moved us forward each step of the way. There was no single politician anywhere who is responsible for gay marriage. It was a long, difficult battle that began many years ago.

In any event, I found this article and I thought it was one of the better pieces out there. And it’s short. It dates back to 2015, when SCOTUS ruled on same sex marriage.

The ruling means all US states must grant marriage licences to gay and lesbian couples and recognise marriages that have taken place in other states.

So how did we get to this point?

In 1996, the US Congress passed and President Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act, a law that prohibited federal recognition of same-sex marriages.

In 2003, Massachusetts judges ruled the state constitution allowed gay marriage, and marriage licences followed shortly after that. In the following years, a handful of states passed gay marriage bans while others began working towards allowing same-sex unions – either by court order or legislation.

While it would be nice to think that there was one politician in particular that gave us legal gay marriage, that’s not how it went down. Most of them smiled, shrugged it off, and said they would leave it, “up to the states.” And I think it’s important to record history as it happened, not as we would have liked it to happen.

Zane Pittman Full Frontal Nudity

I think it’s pointless sometimes to come up with a clever title for a blog post that’s as plain and simple as this.

For those who don’t know, Pittman was in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

In case you haven’t caught on, Zane is just the latest public figure to reveal himself, all of himself, to the world.

Assuming you’re somewhere safe and alone, here he is, folks.

Here’s a link to the article, where you can find another link to the full frontal nudity.

Male Sex Worker Confessions

Here’s the story of a young guy in Dublin who tried being a male sex worker for one week.

“Staying within the limits of the law I became a part of Ireland’s booming vice scene online,” he writes, “and with the help of gay dating app Grindr I introduced myself to Dublin’s gay sex-trade.”

Collins wasn’t quite sure what to think when he accepted his first client.

“It’s a strange feeling to describe sitting at home and seeing a man you’ve never met before drape himself on your bed waiting for sex,” Collins says, admitting that it took some time to work up the courage to finally follow through with things.

It’s a *fascinating* read, especially the part about the guy who wanted to have sex in front of his kitten. The rest is here
