Fed Gov’t Honors Utah Marriages
In a highly supportive move, Eric Holder made the announcement that the federal government will, indeed, recognize the same sex marriages performed in Utah even though same sex marriage is NOT recognized any longer in Utah. If you haven’t been following this, you can read more here where I’ve been posting for a while. It’s been a rollercoaster because gay marriage was legal for about five minutes in Utah, many LGBTI people got married, and then it wasn’t legal on a state level all over again.
So those who were married in Utah are basically in the same position as people like Tony and me. Our state, PA, doesn’t recognize same sex marriage, but when we’re married later this month we will be recognized in other states and by the federal government.
“I am confirming today that, for purposes of federal law, these marriages will be recognized as lawful and considered eligible for all relevant federal benefits on the same terms as other same-sex marriages,” Holder said in a video released Friday afternoon.
Coming Out Reactions
This next article talks about a video that gets into what gays can expect when they tell someone they are gay. I’ve posted my thoughts on this more than once and I think coming out is a personal process that should be handled gently and within each individual’s comfort zone. I also don’t think everyone needs to have a “coming out,” at least no in the literal sense. I never did. I just never denied it and continued doing what felt right to me. Everyone figured it out on their own when I brought my first boyfriend home. No questions asked.
Coming out is something of a rite of passage for most gay men and women, whether we like it or not. I personally do not. I’ve even spent a lot of time thinking how funny it’d be if my hetero friends were required to come out as straight—taking the aphorism ‘take a walk in someone else’s shoes’ to a whole new extreme—but that day seems a ways away if not a tad (and unnecessarily) torturous for everyone. Until then, let’s lighten up with our queer proclamations…and laugh.
You can read more here, and view a clip. It’s very adorable. You’ll want to hug him.
Hot Guy Pic
I have to figure out a way to legally post photos like this myself. Until I do, here’s a link to wickedgayblog, to a photo of a hot guy taking a selfie in his shorts. There’s just something about it.
