Hillary Clinton Is the First Woman President In A Christmas Carl by Ryan Field

A Christmas Carl by Ryan Field

When I write certain things about the future in novels, I always believe at the time I’m writing them it’s purely fiction. But sometimes they’ve actually come true and it’s not something I ever did on purpose. I always wonder if it happens to other fiction writers. I never actually discussed this before with anyone.

With that said, I was contracted to write A Christmas Carl about eight years ago. It was around the same time as the 2008 Presidential election, back when Hillary Clinton was running against Barack Obama in the Democratic primaries. Even though I wasn’t very political back then (like now), I saw how determined Hillary Clinton was to be President and it left a lasting impression on me. I felt bad for her, too. And when she lost in nomination, I started to wonder if she’d ever run for President again. So I added her to A Christmas Carl without actually thinking about the real future. At the time, it was purely conjecture on my part.

When I wrote A Christmas Carl, which is a gay parody inspired by A Christmas Carol, I parodied the ghost of Christmas future scene to include Hillary Clinton, as President, many years down the road. And at that time I never, for a moment, thought that I’d see Clinton so close to the presidency again.  Here we are in the year 2016 and Clinton is as determined as ever to become the first woman President.

It’s not a long scene, and it’s not by any means the focus of the book. But I think it’s interesting how sometimes fiction mimics real life, and when you least expect it.

The wall behind Victor’s chair had his collection of small presidential photos. Carl walked over to the wall and stared at them for a moment. He didn’t recognize the current president, but one of the photos of a past president toward the end was vaguely familiar. It was a photo of an extremely old woman. She was wearing a pantsuit and holding a cane, standing on the White House steps. Her hair was white and her body was hunched forward, so you couldn’t get a clear view of her face. Carl pressed his index finger to his bottom lip and leaned in for a closer look. He stared for a minute, and then said to the Ghost, “I see that America finally elected a woman for president. Who was she?”
The Ghost tossed his head back and laughed. “Hillary Clinton, of course. She never gave up.”
While Carl was staring at the photo, the woman stepped out of the kitchen and frowned. She was in her fifties. She had a slight middle-age spread across her waist. She wore eyeglasses with dark frames on the end of her nose. “Don’t be silly, Victor. I enjoy spending time with you. It reminds me of the old days, when we used to serve meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the homeless shelter. I’ll be home in plenty of time to celebrate with my family.” She was holding a dishtowel in one hand and a dented, scratched frying pan in the other. “I wish you’d come home with me.”

Gays Supporting Hillary

Once again, when I post these things about politics please keep in mind that I’m not taking any sides and I’m remaining objective. I’m just linking. I don’t care who you are supporting and I respect all of your opinions. I really do feel that way. I write fiction, not politics. And I think I would be doing a huge disservice to my readers if I started preaching politics and taking sides.

With that said, according to this article, Ellen DeGeneres is a huge Hillary supporter.

DeGeneres is probably the highest-profile out celebrity backing Clinton. She’s been a vocal supporter of Clinton for years, and is representative of Clinton’s deep Hollywood support. “I think you stand for everything that I want in a president,” Ellen told Clinton last January. DeGeneres may be a high-profile backer, but she’s hardly alone. Among Clinton’s other entertainment industry supporters are Jim Parsons, Matt Bomer, Rosie O’Donnell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lee Daniels and Ricky Martin.

There’s a list here you can check out.

Heterosexual Woman Claims She’s Bullied By Gays

A straight woman in Australia who worked for an LGBT event called Feast Festival claims that when they found out she wasn’t a member of the LGBT community she started receiving threats and was bullied.

Liebeknecht is the general manager of the Feast Festival, a popular queer arts event held each year in October in Adelaide, Australia. She is also heterosexual. But when word got out that she wasn’t actually a member of the LGBTQ community, she says, people became “vicious.”

You can read the rest here. I can’t comment on this one because the story is more complicated, and there are a few more facts you’ll want to check out at the link.
