Grey’s Anatomy Actor Comes Out
I never get tired of reading these stories. This is even better than most because this guy is playing a gay character, too.
Jake Borelli, the 27-year-old actor who plays Levi Schmitt on the ABC TV medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, came out as gay Thursday night on Instagram. His coming out post followed an episode of the show in which Schmitt also came out as gay, entering the show’s first-ever male same-sex romance with Dr. Nico Kim (played by Alex Landi).
Here’s the entire story. There’s a photo. He’s adorable. I never watched this show, but I’m going to make a point of watching it now.
Bohemian Rhapsody Movie: Another Brave Straight Actor Playing Gay
This reminds me of the Megyn Kelley kerfuffle recently where she didn’t see anything wrong with dressing up for Halloween in blackface. Well, here’s yet another story about a straight actor playing gayface. The film is Bohemian Rhapsody, and the actor is Allen Leech from Downton Abbey. Kelly lost her job, and rightly so. This guy will get an Oscar.
No one ever advised me against playing a gay character or any character. If I believe in the role and the character, and I believe I can do it justice, then I want to do that. So I’ve never had any push-back from my team, ever, actually. That’s probably why I still have the same team I have. It’s all about the work.
Here’s the link. There are a few interesting comments from readers at the end. I won’t be watching this one.
London Gay Bar Royal Vauxhall Saved
Now here’s some good news on the global front. This is something regarding gay culture that no straight person, including all straight actors playing gayface, will ever understand. It’s a follow up to a story I did a few months about about a gay bar in London that looked as though it might shut down. Apparently, it’s going to be around for a lot longer.
Here’s more. It obviously goes into more detail, and it’s definitely worth the read.
