Poll Supports Gay Marriage
I’ve been following these polls for a while out of curiosity. As the fight for equality progresses and more LGBT people are coming out, marrying, and focusing on family life, the mainstream is becoming more and more supportive in ways I honestly didn’t think I would ever see in my lifetime.
According to the report issued by the largest gay civil rights group in the country ‘60% of likely voters support marriage equality, a new high point.’
‘This poll is another conclusive sign that support for marriage equality and LGBT people overall continues to grow,’ Fred Sainz, the organization’s vice president for communications, said in a statement.
The study also shows nearly half of Americans know an LGBTI couple who has been married.
What I’m hoping this will do is silence the most aggressive bigots the same way they were silenced during the civil rights movement. When it became apparent that discriminating against African Americans was, indeed, wrong the bigots withdrew, and some even changed their opinions.
And there will be a day when no one in the mainstream doesn’t at least know someone who is openly gay and married.
Ricky Martin and Social Media
In this article, Ricky Martin talks about his addiction to social media. From what I gather…I don’t follow him, but I will…he’s candid about everything in his life, with nothing to hide.
‘I laugh so much at the reaction of the people; it’s so funny. It really is amazing,’ he tells PrideSource.
What led to his selfie habit?
‘I just want to let people know how normal my life is, and I try to do it with a simple picture – that’s what Instagram is about. … The other day I was laying in the sun and I was like, “Hey everyone, I’m here. I’m in a good place.”‘
It’s all a part of his being ‘a little bit obsessed with social media.’
I’ll admit I’m obsessed with social media, too. This winter has been so brutal I’m forced to use a treadmill in the house and I’m on twitter and facebook just to pass the time. It’s interaction, and being a writer we don’t get that daily interaction we crave so much.
You can read the rest here. Y’all who look at social media with such disdain really don’t know what you’re missing, especially if you’re a writer. I honestly don’t know how it’s possible for a writer or an agent NOT to be part of some kind of social media today and still remain relevant.
10 Hot Gay Bachelors
Here’s something I found interesting from a writer’s perspective…the word bachelor seems to have taken on a new life now that more gay men are coming out and gaining equal rights. In the past, the word bachelor typically meant single unmarried straight man…sometimes with a hidden meaning of gay…and now there are actually gay bachelors because gay people can get legally married. I think that’s huge.
In any event, here’s list of the 10 hottest gay bachelors in the public eye. I’m sure there are plenty not in the public eye, too.
1. Jonathan Groff Reportedly single since his break-up with Zachery Qunito, gorgeous Jonathan Groff – star of HBO gay drama Looking – is one of the world’s most in-demand gay actors. What’s more, the 29-year-old (who has also lent his talents to films such as Frozen and shows such as Glee) was recently grilled on his dating habits, and what turns him on and off about guys – and his answers were more than little revealing. Groff admitted he ‘absolutely’ likes sex on a first date, is turned on by guys who are hairy and balding, and only like’s guys who are versatile. Form an orderly queue, boys…
I’m just so glad I’m married and don’t have to go through THIS anymore…knock wood.
