Shoe Thrown At Hillary; Trans Teacher Dumped; Andrew Sullivan on Colbert

Trans Teacher Dumped

Each time something like this happens it hurts, but I also think it brings us closer to a time in the future when it won’t happen again. I’m talking about a transgender substitute teacher who was suspended simply for being a transgender after a parent called and complained.

The parent claimed having a transgender teacher in the classroom was an ‘unhealthy distraction’ for the 10- to 11-year-olds.

You can read the rest here.

There’s a photo of the teacher at the link above. She claims she’s always been a professional.

Shoe Thrown At Hillary

Update: The shoe that almost clocked Hillary upside her head was a black and orange tennis shoe.

Earlier this week I posted something short about Hillary Clinton making the rounds, giving public speeches at $200,000 per speech. I thought it was interesting from a general…not political: I’m a registered Democrat but vote independently…POV to mention that one of the topics Hillary Clinton discussed during one of the speeches was income inequality. That’s a huge issue in the US, and why so many can’t actually live working full time in most retail positions in the US. I’m thrilled to see Hillary or anyone make $200,000 per speech. I wouldn’t pay for it. But good for her. I just find it ironic that someone making that kind of money per speech has the audacity to even go near income inequality as a topic. Evidently, someone in the audience of a recent speech Clinton gave got a little confused, too. And this woman hurled a shoe at Clinton. I don’t know whether or not it was a high heel.

A woman was taken into custody after throwing what she described as a shoe at Hillary Clinton during a Las Vegas speech.

The incident happened moments after Clinton took the stage Thursday at an Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries meeting at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

Clinton ducked but did not appear to be hit by the object, and then joked about it.

“Is that somebody throwing something at me? Is that part of Cirque de Soleil?” Clinton quipped.

My pithy quip is that I wonder if anyone makes $200,000 per performance as part of Cirque de Soleil? I hope so. They’re good and they deserve it…the money, not the shoe.

Side note: I do not by any means recommend throwing shoes at politicians, no matter how much smoke they blow up your behinds. Save that energy for the voting booth and get even with them there.

Andrew Sullivan on Colbert

Now this is interesting. I also posted about how Andrew Sullivan ranted on about the Brendan Eich incident…where Eich was practically forced to resign from CEO of Mozilla because it was disclosed he once donated $1,000 (I think that was the amount) to a cause that was designed to stop gay marriage (prop 8). Gay activist groups spoke up to the point where many are now referring to them as the gay mafia. For those who don’t know, Sullivan is a gay blogger with a huge following.

Sullivan recently went on the Colbert Report to discuss it in detail.

Conservative kween Andrew Sullivan went on The Colbert Report last night mostly to serve as the punchline for Colbert’s satirical gay-baiting, calling for everyone to just simma down now with the name-calling and strong-arming. Sullivan has drawn considerable queer ire after coming to the defense of Eich, blasting the so-called “ugly intolerance of parts of the gay movement.” It’s unlikely he’ll engender himself to his detractors with this appearance, but the Colbert Bump is known to do wonders.

This next article talks about Sullivan on Colbert’s show, but gives a profoundly different spin on the topic.

There was no mainstream gay rights organization calling for his head. No one “bullied” Mr. Eich out of Mozilla’s headquarters. To say so is an insult to those of us who have been bullied in real life. And no cabal of intolerant gays proclaimed that disagreement with us merits unemployment. That seems to be a bogeyman conjured up in the prolific brain of Andrew Sullivan.

Trust me when I say this, you DON’T want to cross the majority in the left wing liberal gay community. Unless you’re prepared for the kind of fallout that makes what bullies in schools do look like a trip to Disney World.

Burned Lesbian Trailer; Bill Maher Gay Mafia; Tough Mudders Jean Paul Zapata

Burned Lesbian House

A man allegedly attempted to burn down a trailer in Florida because lesbians were living there, and the lesbian couple had eight kids.

The trailer had no fire detectors, and a neighbor from across the street awakened the people inside.

The police report notes the suspect left his home and ‘casually began observing the fire. In fact one of his neighbors had to compel him to assist bringing a garden hose’ to put the fire out. Firefighters were called and the home, according to the police, had ‘considerable damage.’

Surveillance tape from another neighbor show Valenzuela-Villanueva setting the fire.

Good for surveillance cameras. I used to be anti-surveillance camera because I thought they were an invasion of privacy. But they seem to be catching a lot of criminals in the act, which changed my opinion completely. I now have them everywhere and I highly recommend the small investment.

Bill Maher Gay Mafia

I’ve posted several times about the Brendan Eich issue where he was appointed CEO of Mozilla, it was disclosed he donated to an anti-gay cause that would help stop gay marriage, and he ultimately resigned after a huge firestorm erupted. I also stated I didn’t agree with the way all this went down and I often find myself in situations where I’m not comfortable with what some gay activists say and do and I’d rather not be represented by them. However, for Bill Maher to weigh in on this topic and refer to gay activists as the “gay mafia” is about as insulting as it gets.

After asking the panel for their opinions on the resignation, Maher says: ‘I think there is a gay mafia. I think if you cross them, you do get whacked.’

His comments were in response to Sheffield’s observation that Eich made the donation ‘when president Obama was still against gay marriage. So, I don’t think it’s very fair.’

First, in any context, I don’t see how Eich’s donation has anything to do with President Obama’s stand on gay marriage. President Obama, like all politicians before him, took no stand and basically said that he would leave it up to the states. It wasn’t until popular opinion started to change that the President finally started to support gay marriage in public. He, like all politicians, remained dead silent until he knew what public opinion would be. And for those who don’t remember, it was good old Democrat Bill Clinton that gave us DOMA in the first place.

Second, if Eich had donated his money to a group that was against any other minority separate from the LGBT community I doubt Bill Maher would be making these offhanded comments right now. And if Maher had made statements like that and he had referenced another other group, like say the African American community, the heavens would have exploded and Maher would have been released from his contract faster than Paula Deen closed Bubba’s restaurant. And, rightly so.

Bill Maher needs to get his head out of his ass.

I have posted about LGBT travel writer, Jean Paul Zapata, before because I always enjoy his pieces. And now he’s embarking on one of the toughest challenges of his career: Tough Mudder. In short, Tough Mudders are people who sign up for physical challenges that make boot camp look like kindergarten. It’s a lifestyle for many.

I’m not fearful of the pools of ice, scaling slippery walls, or charging into arenas with low-voltage cables that work like cattle prods pushing people on to the next obstacle. ]

I’m not worried about the mystery obstacle, or the dubiously named Balls to the Wall, Hangin’ Tough or Just The Tip courses.

I am scared of running behind a group of guys wearing the infamous Borat man-kini.
