NBC Sports and Homophobia

I think this kind of passive aggressive homophobia can’t just be blamed on NBC sports. I see it…and I experience it…everywhere. I even get it from people with the best of intentions who don’t mean any harm.

NBC Sports seems to have a problem treating gay athletes, and the gay parents of athletes, with the same respect and visibility it shows to their heterosexual counterparts.

They failed to identify Tom Daley‘s financé Dustin Lance Black when showing he and Daley’s mother in the crowd, dressed in matching “Team Daley” shirts.

We have a lot more work to do.

A Gay Blogger’s Grindr Rant

Some dude I never heard of named Donny Meacham went on a rant about Grindr and he claims it has ruined everything with regard to dating in the gay community.

There’s this…

“I am a queer single male in NYC,” the piece begins. “You would think dating would be easy because there are thousands of queer guys all around me.Well, if you think that, you are WRONG.”

And this…

“When you log onto Grindr, you have minimum of 50 horny thumbnails waiting to literally do just about anything you could think of,” he writes. “Doesn’t that sound more interesting than having sex with the same person twice a week?”

You can read more here. I know nothing about Grindr or hook up apps, so I can’t comment.  But maybe he should try Twitter…it seems to be a much better dating site, from what I get in DMs.

Side note: once again, I was with a group of people last night having dinner and every single one of us agreed we don’t like the word queer and we don’t want to be referred to as queer. If someone else wants to be referred to as queer that’s fine…for them…but not everyone does.

Meryl Streep’s Florence Foster Jenkins

I think Meryl Streep is probably one of the greatest character actresses of our time, and here are seven reasons why you won’t want to miss her new film, Florence Foster Jenkins.

Streep is likely to land her 20th Academy Award nomination with her performance as the eccentric, armature opera singer, and it’s obvious she relished every moment of this role. The queen of the silver screen leaves no doubt who still reigns supreme.
