Though I try to stay out of politics because I’m an independent voter, I wanted to post this about the Democratic National Committee embracing Marriage Equality.

According to this public e-mail:

After a unanimous decision, the drafting committee for the Democratic National Convention embraced marriage equality as part of our platform for the 2012 Convention.

The next step will be for the full platform committee to vote on it, after which it will be presented to the delegates at the Convention in Charlotte for a final vote. Make no mistake: This is a historic step toward fairness for all. Once again, Democrats are fighting to move this country forward.

As I have stated time and again, I’m not politically active. But I do think this issue of marriage equality is about history in the making and I’m not going to ignore it. Especially since I watched a TV show last night with the ever so humble Ms. Sarah Palin talking about Chick-fil-a and the “homosexual agenda.”

Now I’m not one of those who ever bashed Ms. Palin for being stupid and all those other things we’ve heard about her. In fact, I find she’s *extremely* intelligent, so smart she’s dangerous. When she says “homosexual” instead of “gay” or “lgbt” she’s offering her own slur to the lgbt community and only those paying close attention to her exact words will actually “get” what she’s really trying to say.

So when history is being made in this country, and I’m being discriminated against because I’m gay and have been with my partner for twenty years, you don’t have to think about it for too long to see where my vote is going this fall. And for the record, I wasn’t a huge Obama supporter. But I’m basing my vote this time on the information I’m getting, and marriage equality happens to be the biggest issue to me at this time.
