Obama and Gay Marriage
I think if I went back to a few posts I wrote previously I would find at least one thing I said that agrees with this next post. And when I wrote it I most likely did that with a pragmatic tone. I just don’t have the time to do that right now, so I’ll comment at the end.
Evidently, the President’s chief campaign strategist, David Axelrod, wrote a memoir…I know: typical…and in order to promote the book he seems to have a few issues to disclose. In this case it’s gay marriage and how President Obama felt about it in 2008. From what I gather it’s really not a slam against the President; just a little extra information to get a little extra attention…book sales.
In short, the President had already made up his mind about gay marriage long before he admitted it in public in 2012. He was for it.
But it turns out Obama had wanted to declare his support even before his first presidential election in 2008, according to a new memoir by Obama’s chief campaign strategist David Axelrod.
‘Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a “sacred union,”‘ Axelrod writes.
The political advice Obama was given was that he say he was in favor of civil unions for same-sex couples but to not share his support of marriage equality.
I don’t think anyone is all that surprised by this. This is what politicians do, this is what we all expect them to to, and this what the next President will do about another hot button topic no matter who he or she is. In some cases, they have to do this. You can’t blame them.
I also personally believe that whether any President was for or against gay marriage makes no difference at all. In this case, I think we had to fight this all out, state by state in court, and gain equality the hard way. And there’s still a great deal of opposition out there to face and a long way to go.
Madonna on Grindr
I like Madonna and I think she’s doing well for someone who has been around for so many years. I’m not a die hard fan who would stand in line, but I don’t mind listening to some of her music. And I like the fact that she’s still around so long.
In order to promote her new album she’s heading to Grindr to work those who are die hard fans. I’m only posting about this for anyone who might be interested.
The hookup app is offering unapologetic bitches everywhere the chance to talk to the material girl herself.
While we can’t assume what the lucky winner will chat about, we’re assuming hanky panky is off the table.

Urban Outfitters and Pink Triangles
In another successful attempt to get more attention, Urban Outfitters is causing a shitstorm for using the symbolic pink triangle and gray and white stripes on a tapestry. For those who don’t know, and I’ve posted about this before, the pink triangle is what they made gay men wear in concentration camps during World War II.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) yesterday (9 February) urged the US retail chain to remove the offending article from stores.
‘Whether intentional or not, this gray and white stripped pattern and pink triangle combination is deeply offensive and should not be mainstreamed into popular culture,’ said Abraham Foxman, ADL national director and Holocaust survivor, in a statement.
‘We urge Urban Outfitters to immediately remove the product eerily reminiscent of clothing forced upon the victims of the Holocaust from their stores and online.’
It’s really the worst kind of exploitation for monetary gain, and of one of the worst periods in history. Unfortunately, they’re banking on the fact that so many younger people don’t even know what it means.
The comments are typical. They range from brilliant to idiotic.
