Trevor Donovan’s Then and Now Series
When I owned my art gallery in New Hope for ten years I often repped artists who focused on the male form. The mediums ranged from sculptures to photos…to photo books. I never set limits. I had one extremely talented woman artist from Germany (in her 60s) who only sculpted penises, in the most artistic, tasteful way. I also repped artists who did abstracts and even some landscapes…because landscapes sell well…but the artistic photos of males were what usually attracted my eye first.
So this photo shoot with Trevor Donovan as the subject fascinated me. I’ve seen vintage. I seen current. I’ve seen Tom of Finland. I’ve seen them all. However, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone put together a series, in this artistic way, with photos of the subject, then and now. I believe the time frame covers a decade of Donovan’s life.
I found this sample of photos at the Perez Hilton web site and I thought I’d share it. Pay attention to the photos themselves and try to get past Hilton’s narrative. Hilton is a gossip blogger and this is what gossip bloggers do. They are expected to do it. But this link is all about the Then and Now series and the photos, not the narrative.
You can check out the photos here. It’s also amazing that in a ten year time frame the subject hasn’t changed much at all. I’m sure there will be other web sites talking about this in the future, so I’ll re-post if I see them. I think it would make a great photo book.

Pope Francis and Same Sex Couples, Again
The Pope is at it again. That’s all you need to know from me.
“As for proposals to place unions between homosexual persons on the same level as marriage, there are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family,” wrote the pope this week in a statement (that was probably really written by underlings and then signed by him).
“No union that is temporary or closed to the transmission of life can ensure the future of society,” the pope (or whoever) went on.

A Condom Company and AIDS Jokes
I joke a lot on Twitter, and I follow a lot of people who also joke. I love it for many reasons, and mainly because sarcasm isn’t easy to do. It’s often a challenge to come up with something funny and many times I personally draw the line when it comes to the subject matter. One place I would never, ever go with a Twitter joke is abortion. And another is AIDS. Evidently, this condom company doesn’t agree with me.
Nic Holas, the co-founder of The Institute of Many, an umbrella group for HIV-positive people, spoke to BuzzFeed News about how the ads do damage.
“Beyond the factual errors, the campaign associates human characteristics with STIs, reinforcing the idea that certain types of people are to blame for STIs. Avoiding a ‘certain type of person’ isn’t how you avoid contracting STIs,” he said.
