2 Boys In Love Coming Clean
In December 2011 I posted about a new blog I had found called 2 Boys In Love. At the time I did a basic review of the blog and didn’t really pay much attention to it. I liked it.
However, as you can see from that old blog post (quote below) I tried to get the owners of the blog to grant me an interview. Back in the early days of the Internet I was a staff member for a web site that has since been sold called Bestgayblogs.com and I did personal interviews with gay bloggers all the time. I’m still very friendly with several of them to this day. Some are still blogging.
This quote is from my older post…obviously I liked the 2 Boys In Love blog enough to recommend it:
But all bloggers do it differently, and 2 Boys in Love is something I would recommend checking out. It’s very interesting. I’ve been trying to get an interview with them but they seem awfully busy, which is fine. I’ll just have to keep trying until I nail them.
At the time, I contacted them several times and I never received a response, and no one ever granted me permission to do an interview, so I just moved on and forgot all about it.
Recently, the owner of 2 Boys In Love disclosed this:
What I’m saying today probably won’t come a surprise to some people.
The truth is this:
“Matt” and “Brad” and “Sam” are not real people.
You can read the rest here. I’m not going to comment or judge or even call anyone out in a mean way. I hate to do that and I do think everyone has different circumstances. But I also think it’s interesting in a general sense. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in personal blogging (everywhere in personal blogging, not just gay blogging) and it’s not the first time a blogger has made a disclosure like this.
Again, speaking generally about all things on the Internet, I think this is a sign of the times. For a long time the entire Internet has had this Old Wild West mentality where very few rules were followed. A very well known publishing blogger in the romance community with an almost cult-like following (totally unrelated to 2 Boys In Love) recently disclosed the fact that she had printed misinformation about a publisher on her blog. Another personal gay blogger disclosed that he is really a straight woman. I could list a lot more in other areas of blogging, but my main point is that I have this feeling the Old Wild West mentality with regard to the Internet is going to become a thing of the past.
Empire State Pride Shuttering
I remember hearing about Empire State Pride when I was still in college. It’s been a well known civil rights organization in NY for a long time.
According to its press release, the organization is closing down because the group ‘has achieved its top policy goals.’
‘Over the years this organization has made a difference in – and no doubt saved – countless lives,’ Cuomo said in the release. ‘Together we have restored New York’s status as a progressive beacon for the nation, from securing marriage equality to helping ban transgender discrimination and bringing the end of the AIDS epidemic within reach.’
It’s interesting because this is part of “gay culture,” too. And now it’s disappearing like many other things. Could this be the beginning of the end of “Pride” as we’ve always known it?
Caitlyn Jenner Hesitates As Spokesperson
It doesn’t really surprise me that Caitlyn Jenner isn’t interested in being referred to as a spokesperson for the transgender community. Much like the gay male community, the transgender community is as diverse…at least from what I’ve been seeing lately. The stereotypes just don’t work anymore, which is a good thing. In Jenner’s case she’s a conservative Republican and that alone breaks all those proverbial LGBT rules.
‘I am not a spokesperson for the trans community, I am not,’ she insisted in the interview. ‘The media kind of projects me as being the spokesperson, but from my standpoint, I am not. I am a spokesperson for my story and that’s all I can tell. And hopefully by telling my story, I can make people think.’
While pushing away the mantle of ‘spokesperson,’ she insists she wants to do what she can to address issues in the transgender community.
‘Finances are certainly a big issue in the trans community,’ Jenner said. ‘I was in New York, at the LGBT center there with a Latina group, and I asked them what their budget is. They do all this work. They’ve got HIV testing buses and stuff. And she said, $10,000 a year. Are you kidding me?! I would like to do my best in the future to work with corporate America to help in fundraising efforts.’
Zachary Quinto On LGBTI Prejudice
I know there is a great deal of LGBTI prejudice because I read about it all the time. I get letters from readers about it, too. Sometimes people don’t even know they’re doing it.
In any event, Zachary Quinto did a video about how all of society suffers thanks to LGBTI prejudice.
Gay and lesbian teenagers consider suicide four times as often as their straight friends; their trans peers are up to ten times as likely to attempt suicide.
‘In study after study, rates of poverty, homelessness, depression & suicide are found to be far higher in the LGBT community than among the general population,’ said Charles Radcliffe, Head of Global Issues at the UN Human Rights Office and campaign director of UN Free & Euqal.
‘But it’s not only LGBT people who pay the price; we all do. Every trans kid thrown out of home or forced out of school is a loss for society.
