Tom Daley is Straight

I’m out of the office and posting from a tablet today, so please excuse any spelling errors that might happen. Tony and I had to go to NY to visit someone in the hospital. Traffic is a nightmare.

In any event, British Olympic Swimmer, Tom Daley came out of the closet and stated that he’s straight. I know that sounds like fire is hot. But it seems he had to make a statement about it.

“I think it’s funny when people say I’m gay… I laugh it off… I’m not. But even if I was, I wouldn’t be ashamed. It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest what people thought.”

Daley added, “But I’m cool with my gay following. It’s great to have gay fans even though my friends gently take the mick.”

He handled that well. I could get into this topic deeper, but it is what it is and everyone wants to know if a good looking guy is gay or not these days. So kudos to Daley for taking it all in his stride. It seems to be the attitude most younger straight men are adapting these days. He’s also helping to break the stereotypes and doesn’t even know it.

Facebook Privacy Policy

Evidently, Facebook is thinking of revising its privacy policy and several groups concerned about this have been putting pressure on FB.

This is what FB said:

“We are taking the time to ensure that people’s comments are reviewed and taken into consideration to determine whether further updates are necessary and we expect to finalize the process in the coming week,” a Facebook spokesperson told The Huffington Post by email.

You can read more here. I’m also going to do a longer post about this soon. Personally, I’m not fond of any privacy policies anywhere and I think we’re losing too much privacy these days. I recently had to actually tell a family member that I don’t want to see hospital photos of someone on facebook because I think that is a violation of that person’s privacy. The person in the hospital doesn’t even know anything about FB, and I don’t think it’s fair to post less than flattering photos of them without asking for permission first, and then explaining what FB is all about.

However, privacy policies are not something we can argue because Internet businesses are not held to the same standards as other businesses and they seem to be able to do anything they want without having to answer to anyone (unless someone actually raises the questions and confronts them). So I just figure that if I’m on FB it’s up to me to decide what I want them to know. It’s a very flawed system as it stands and we’re all at the mercy of a handful of people who are setting all the rules for us. I do, however, see a lot of litigation coming in the future. And not just with FB.
