Davey Wavey Interview With Brent Corrigan

Sometimes I like to post on topics that I know absolutely nothing about. For me it’s a practice in objectivity, which I think is important to any writer. In fact, I wish we saw more objectivity these days everywhere.

So here’s an article about an interview Davey Wavey did with Brent Corrigan. It’s interesting and I really don’t follow either one of them often.

Does this turn you on? Unavoidable YouTube personality Davey Wavey just interviewed adult film star Brent Corrigan for his Business of Sex web series, eking out stories about his early beginnings in the adult film industry, why he wants to steer clear of promoting King Cobra, and his lifelong obsession with horses.

You can check it out here. There’s a video.

As always with pieces like this that are just meant for fun and not meant to change the world, you’ll find the comments from readers a little surprising. At least I did.

Peter Scolari Wins Emmy For Playing Gay Dad

I know nothing about this. I used to watch the TV show Girls all the time. I think I even posted about it here at one point. But even though I liked it, I stopped watching because of Lena Dunham. I’m not going to elaborate on that, but I lost track of the show and characters and this is news to me as well.

Peter Scolari won his first Emmy Award on Saturday (10 September) for his portrayal of Lena Dunham’s gay dad on the HBO series Girls.

The win took many by surprise since the actor was not initially a nominee in a field that also included Larry David (Saturday Night Live), Tracy Morgan (Saturday Night Live), Martin Mull (Veep), Bradley Whitford (Transparent) and Bob Newhart (The Big Bang Theory).

You can read the rest here.

JK Rowling’s Revelation and HIV Metaphor

The only book I’ve really read by JK Rowling was A Causal Vacancy, which I reviewed here on the blog. I loved that book, it was a long book, and I hated to see it end. However, I’m not familiar with the Harry Potter series at length, it’s not my preferred genre, and I know nothing about this alleged controversy with Rowling. I wasn’t even sure how to title this part of the post.

JK Rowling has debunked the ‘revelation’ fan fave character Remus Lupin’s werewolf condition is a metaphor for HIV.

In one of her new ebooks, the author is quoted as talking about his lycanthropy as a metaphor for an illness that carries some negative public opinion.

Here’s the link to read more. I can’t parse this one no matter how hard I try. But someone in the comments tried to make it clearer.

Brent Corrigan On King Cobra Movie; Real Life Queer Stories; That Gay Single Life

Brent Corrigan On James Franco’s King Cobra Movie

Even though the independent film community has given straight James Franco and his film, King Cobra, “acclaim,” I still think it’s important to hear comments and thoughts from  a gay perspective. Not an LGBT perspective this time. There’s a difference. I’m talking about only the “G” in LGBT. A gay perspective, with respect to gay culture and a gay man’s POV. And sometimes that’s VERY different from LGBT.

But more than that, since the film was allegedly based on the early years of Brent Corrigan’s film career, without his input, his thoughts are even more important.

However, the real Corrigan/Lockhart has lashed out once again at the production, accusing Hollywood of “bastardising my early years in porn”

You can read more of this here, where Corrigan talks about a book he’s writing, from his own experience and perspective.

And this is from an earlier article on the same topic.

In a post to Facebook, Corrigan said: “The internet has been a buzz regarding some recent news that a movie is being filmed right now in New York State chronicling the Bryan Kocis murder and the early days of my adult career.
“I was originally approached to be a part of the film as a consultant and the cast. I was asked to play a small part in the film and declined the role.
He added: “Ultimately, I chose to move forward with my own plans to finally release my book in place of taking part in someone else’s presentation of events that I personally lived as a young adult.

You can read that one here.

I can’t comment because I have no intention of seeing King Cobra. But I will read Corrigan’s book when it’s released.

Real Life Queer Stories

I saw this on Twitter recently and thought I would share. It’s a web site filled with real life LGBT stories coming from real LGBT people.

I very clearly remember being 13 and being a bit concerned that I might not actually be straight as I had expected to be. I also remember thinking, ‘don’t be stupid, of course you’re not,’ and burying it deep inside where I didn’t deal with it for nearly ten years. Ahhhh, adolescence. Of course I…

You can check this one out here. It’s a simple web site that’s smooth to navigate. And you would be amazed at how much Twitter opens the world to all people coming from the LGBT community. It’s not like Facebook.

That Gay Single Life

Here’s a post with more of those memes that have quotes. This time from single gay men. The premise is that it’s okay to be single.

I’m a single gay guy and all I want is a husband…until I take a close look at my friends’ relationships and I’m all like “ew but not like that.”

I actually think some gay men are happier being single and they function better. At least that’s what I’ve seen from personal experience through more than a few good single friends. I would imagine the same goes for straight people.

Here’s the rest.

King Cobra Gay Murder Saga; 22 Yr Old Gay Mormon’s Alleged Suicide; David Gest’s Death

King Cobra Gay Murder Saga

King Cobra is another James Franco almost gay project…Franco has never said he was openly gay, but he’s always doing gay projects…about the murder of gay pornographer, Bryan Kocis. I’m not getting into anything about the murder here. I’m only posting about the movie.  You can read more about this here on wiki.

This article I’m linking to right now talks about the film, King Cobra, and mentions that straight male actor, Christian Slater, is also involved.

Fans of the adult film industry and/or sensationalized crime are no doubt anticipating James Franco‘s latest foray into the depths of gay subculture, King Cobra, the retelling of the 2007 murder of gay porn studio Cobra Video owner Bryan Kocis by two escorts, Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes.

You can check this out here, where there’s a clip. I can almost guarantee I’ll be passing on this one. In fact, the first comment on this article is interesting. Why? Because this person won’t pay to see a 30 year old  play a teen, but doesn’t care if a straight plays a gay.

22 Yr Old Gay Mormon’s Alleged Suicide

This is just the saddest thing. 22 year old Lincoln Parkin was an LGBT activist and passionate about several other causes. He was a gay Mormon and his parents were supporting him with his decisions.

As medical examiners investigate the case, the consensus is that Parkin’s death was self-inflicted.
Brent Parkin, Lincoln’s father, says: “I think he got out of balance physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially.

He got pretty extreme with his diet, he got to the point where he felt like God wasn’t there for him, and he isolated himself.”

There’s more here, with other quotes.

David Gest’s Death

I realize today’s posting is kind of dark in all respects, but I thought this was worth mentioning, too. David Gest had a lot to do with pop culture in general.

Producer and reality star David Gest (formerly Mr. Liza Minnelli) was found dead in his Four Seasons hotel room in Canary Wharf, London earlier today. He was 62 years old.

“Police were called at 10:17 hrs on Tuesday 12 April to the Four Seasons hotel, in Westferry Circus, E14, to reports of an unexplained death of a man in his 60s. London Ambulance Service were called to the scene. Life was pronounced extinct at the hotel,” a statement from the Metropolitan Police reads.

You can read more here. Evidently, he tweeted something in January that some people are interpreting as prescience.

Brent Corrigan "Truth;" Orgasm Wars; Locker Room Culture

Brent Corrigan “Truth”

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Topher_e_Brent.jpg

I’m going to be following this for a while, but I wanted to introduce the basics for anyone who hasn’t heard about it yet. Brent Corrigan is an adult entertainer who has been successful in an industry that many say is getting harder and harder to find success in thanks to the Internet and free content. In any event, Corrigan is making a film that’s not considered adult entertainment titled, Truth, and he’s having a fundraiser at Indiegogo.com in order to finish up and get the film released. I’ve posted about kickstarter and how people are raising funds for various artistic endeavors there, but never about Indiegogo. But what I find most interesting is that Corrigan is moving away from adult entertainment and he seems to be doing a very good job at applying his film experience to something that’s out of his proverbial box.

A suspenseful, psychological thriller, “Truth” exposes the hidden demons buried deep inside each and every one of us. After a chance encounter over the Internet, Caleb (Sean Paul Lockhart, “Milk”, “Judas Kiss”, “Chillerama”) meets and falls head over heels for Jeremy (Rob Moretti, “Crutch”, “An Affirmative Act”, “Snapshot”), and soon the line between love and lies blur.

You can read more here, and donate if you wish. I can’t promise anything, but I’m going to try to lobby Corrigan for a personal interview about the film.

Orgasm Wars

In Japan there’s a late night TV show called Orgasm Wars. The general theme revolves around a gay man trying to get a straight man off.

Dramatically narrated for a jokey effect, the variety program features straight Japanese porn star Ryou Sawai meeting his “opponent,” Takuya, in a warehouse. They exchange boasts of who will win and then get down to business. Takuya performs oral sex on the porn star but all the graphic action takes place discreetly in a covered box. Takuya has 40 minutes to finish the job as university students cheer on the contestants. (Quite the field trip.)

This isn’t exactly all that new. It might be for TV, but there have been adult web sites doing this for a long time. And it doesn’t take that much to get the alleged straight man off from what I’ve seen.

You can check it out here, where there’s a video.

Locker Room Culture

There isn’t much written about what’s being dubbed these days as locker room culture, and that’s partly because it’s considered private and kept toned down for reasons few want to discuss in public. But this article to which I’m linking gives a few good examples of what happens behind the closed doors of locker rooms in professional sports.

The rewards of acceptance in an NFL locker room are plentiful — players become part of a unit, have a chance to become secure financially and play a game they love. But, to fit in an NFL locker room means being able to survive a whirlwind lifestyle of mental stress, physical violence, egomaniacs and rampant testosterone. There’s constant teasing, taunting and testing to sort out who can take it. When everything works right, it leads to the strongest of bonds, the strongest of teams.

Sounds like high school to me. Instead of the mean girl cheerleaders you have the big bad bully jocks. Because, from what I gather if you try to buck this system…or ritual…it doesn’t end well. And there seem to be more who are willing to play by the rules of locker room culture than there aren’t just for sheer survival.

You can read more here. It’s a fascinating piece about how some players are bullied and hazed for sport and for ritual. And I would guess this is why most professional players who are gay remain hidden in the closet.
