Ben Carson and Homophobia

There are two things about this entire topic that bother me.

One, the fact that Ben Carson is NOT coming from a place of privilege, and two, the fact that there was no one moderating the Republican  debate on CNBC that represented the LGBT community.

Ben Carson may believe he’s coming from a place of privilege because he’s straight, he’s a male, and he’s a medical doctor who has held important positions. But he’s not. And when I hear other minorities slam the LGBT community (or any other minorities) like he slammed us the other night I think it’s important to point that out. You can’t claim you’re not a homophobic if you don’t support the basic equal right for gays to legally marry. It wasn’t too long ago when mixed race marriages weren’t legal on a federal level.

If CNBC had thought it was important enough, which obviously they didn’t, they would have had someone from the LGBT community moderating questions that were related to LGBT issues. The moderators challenged other replies, but not Ben Carson’s on gay marriage.

With that said, here’s an article about Ben Carson I thought was one of the more interesting…

Rather than address the fact that opposing same-sex marriage is basically the opposite of believing the Constitution protects same-sex couples, Carson went on the defensive. “They shouldn’t automatically assume that because you believe that marriage is between one man and one woman that you are a homophobe,” he implored. “This is one of the myths that the left perpetrates on our society and this is how they frighten people and get people to shut up. That’s what the P.C. culture is all about and it’s destroying this nation.”

I think this was Ben Carson’s own personal I can see Alaska from my window moment. And that’s a metaphor. I know Palin didn’t actually say that. But she’s said plenty.

Sir John Gielgud’s Erotic Gay Screeplay

They’re calling this screenplay porn, but I’ve seen the media twist that too many times…not to mention the clickbait appeal with headlines. I sounds more like erotica to me because I can’t imagine Gielgud writing a screenplay without a story line.  And that’s usually the difference between erotica and porn…the story line. However, if it is porn I’m still as interested as ever.

Gielgud evidently wrote a screenplay in the 1970’s and it was kept a secret for a long time. A guy named David McGillivray has adapted the screenplay into a short film, which is causing some commotion with Gielgud’s charitable trust.

“Earlier this year, the trustees decided not give their permission for it to be produced because they didn’t think it was appropriate,” trust member Ian Bradshaw told the Daily Mail. “They didn’t have to go into detail because they own the copyright.”

The film has entered the editing stage, and McGillivray staunchly defends his decision.

“Pornography is still a stigma in this country, but Sir John loved porn and, in his letters, he talks about visiting gay cinemas,” he says. “I was shocked when the trust didn’t give me permission. We stuck to Sir John’s script very tightly when we made the film a couple of weeks ago. He was very specific about the clothes he wanted the actors to wear.”

You can read more here. I’d love to see it just to actually see if it is really porn. In 1979 Gielgud worked in the film Caligula and they are referring to that film as porn, too. That could be debated by people who know better.

Gus Kenworthy and Homophobic Troll

I follow Kenworthy on Twitter and I missed this one. I hate the way Twitter picks and chooses what I see…like Facebook does. I want to see it all, not just what they choose for me. I would like to have seen how Kenworthy handled a homophobic troll so well when it first happened. Seriously. I’m on Twitter several times a day and I have to find out about this while I’m writing a blog post?

Some idiot asked Kenworthy if he was the man or woman in the relationship. It’s the age old idiotic question we’ve all been dealing with since the beginning of time.

Kenworthy’s  reply went like this:

In a relationship I am the man. As is the other man. I’m gay. Not trying to emulate a heterosexual relationship.

It really doesn’t get much better than that. You can check this out here.
