Kim Davis Is Free
Kim Davis was released from jail yesterday and Gov. Mike Huckabee was there by her side supporting her. I also read she’ll be returning to work by Friday and no one knows how she’s going to deal with issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples. From what I gather to be true, the people in her office are not required to follow her orders on the matter any longer.
“Thank you all so much. I love you all so very much,” she told the crowd. “I just want to give God the glory. His people have rallied, and you are a strong people! We serve a living God who knows exactly where each and every one of us is at. Keep on pressing. Don’t let down. Because He is here and He is worthy.” The He she’s referring to is GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, who came to town to troll for votes introduce the woman whose homophobia he bizarrely compared to Lincoln’s fight against slavery. We’re not sure we’d call him “worthy,” Kimbo.
I also believe it to be true that Huckabee wasn’t trolling for votes. He was there because he hates the concept of gay marriage and because he’s such a religious zealot he can’t help himself. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to understand the way government works…or he’s interpreting it to work a certain way, according to his biased religious beliefs. And that’s where it gets dangerous. Because if Kim Davis’ civil rights were being violated in any way the very people she’s fighting would be the first ones to support her. For example, if another county clerk who belongs to a religion that doesn’t believe in divorce denied Kim Davis a marriage license for her next husband…because she’s been divorced several times…people who believe in equality would be supporting her. That’s what equal rights are about. As for her religious convictions, she should keep them confined to church, not government…or seek emotional counseling by a qualified professional.
First Gay Police Wedding
I think this is more about the first public gay police wedding in the world. I find it hard to believe no other gay cop has gotten married before this.
In any event, it’s nice to see.
Two gay policemen tied the knot in Spain over the weekend and the whole world is celebrating with them.
The couple, who are being referred to as Chema and Jonathan by Spanish media, were married in Jerez de la Frontera on September 5 while dressed in their full police uniforms, in what many believe is a world first.
More here, and the article goes on to mention they’re hoping this might inspire others who are still in the closet. And trust me they are there. I’ve been going back and forth with a guy who e-mails me that I’ve never even met all week hoping to help get him through the nightmare of a closeted life he’s living. There’s really nothing I can do but listen. You can’t draw conclusions for people. They have to draw those conclusions for themselves.
Father of Gay Student Beaten Speaks Out
The father of a gay student in North Dakota who was allegedly beaten by some guys in a fraternity is now talking about it publicly. The police are still investigating the incident.
“To have four guys jump you, strip you of your clothes and your dignity, and then whip you with a belt like an animal — if that’s not a hate crime I don’t know what a hate crime is,” he told Nicole Johnson of local NBC affiliate KVLY.
“You’re going to run across people who are homophobic anywhere you go. At least there are some good people around that campus that night who were willing to step up,” he continued.
What does he want for those accused?
“What do I want to see happen? I’m a parent — you don’t want to know what I want to see happen to them.”
I’m with the father on that one. Beat the hell out of them so they never do this to another single gay person again. You can read more here.
