Ryan Field New Backlist Releases

Ryan Field New Backlist Releases

I hate writing blog post titles like the one above, but if you know blogging it’s important to title and tag a post a certain way for search engines. I would rather have just titled this post “New Releases” and left it at that.

And here they are, as I’m getting the notifications from Amazon daily:

A Young Widow’s Promise link

This is a pg rated erotic romance with a straight female main character and a gay sub-plot. It’s a novella and I think it’s about 30,000 words. It’s also a civil war historical and the setting of the novel is something I researched in detail. It all takes place on the New Jersey/Delaware border, where at one time there was a prison that held confederate prisoners of war. Felecia, the main character, falls in love with a confederate solider after losing her husband and sons in the war. She’s also taken it upon herself to dig graves on the front lawn of her home for as many dead confederate prisoners of war as possible. I’m adding the blurb to this one because it’s very different from anything I’ve done before.

Blurb

Felecia Roundtree is thirty-seven years old, she’s already lost her husband in battle, and prays each morning her two young sons live to see another day. With her own two hands, she’s turned the front of her property at remote Locust Point, NJ, into a burial ground for unknown Confederate prisoners of war, hoping someone will return a kind gesture to her own loved ones. Then one morning in August, just after she has a vision of her dead husband, three Confederate prisoners of war turn up at her doorstep begging for mercy. One is near death; the other two aren’t much better. Though she’s reluctant at first to help the enemy, she offers them food and shelter, and then eventually begins the romance of her lifetime with a young old Confederate named Calvin. When she learns a deep dark secret about the other two Confederates, she’s not sure what to think. Felecia has no idea she’s even falling in love. Nor does she realize she’s preserving an important part of American History. But she’s true to her promise every step of the way.

Billabong Bang link A short erotic romance with a multi-race character.

Another Regular Bud link A short erotic romance sequel to A Regular Bud.

Babycakes link A short erotic romance set in Australia in the Daintree Forest that was once published by Alyson Books.

Bury It, Officer link A short erotic romance with a hint of light BDSM and shoe fetish. Also in a previously pubbed anthology edited by Cleis Press and Rachel Kramer Bussel.

Strawberries and Cream at the Plaza link This is a pg rated gay romance without a lot of sex. It was originally pubbed in a different version about ten years ago in an Alyson Books anthology. It is in no way associated with a m/m romance titled Strawberries and Cream. As you can see, this story was released a while ago, long before Strawberries and Cream was even a thought.

That Cowboy in the Window link  A short erotic romance with a gender bending twist, about a transgender who can actually pass as a woman without a single issue. The ending is happy, but not in the way most might expect.

That’s it for now. All of the above titles are on Amazon for .99, and will be for at least the next three months.

New Release: BABYCAKES

My new short story e-book, BABYCAKES, was just released today. As I said, it’s a short story, and I’ll put as much product info below as I can find. And, this isn’t a romance. It’s erotica. But there is a happy ending and potential for possible future relationships.

I hope readers know how important it is to check product info out. I harp on this all the time, but it’s mainly because when I’m buying books I find such little information out there. I have two Kobo e-readers, the one with e-ink and the Kobo Look Book. I love them both. But the product information on the Kobo book site leaves a great deal to be desired.

The info below was taken directly from allromanceebooks.com. I’m usually happy with their product info…and most product info on publisher web sites. You can also check out an excerpt here.

Product Information: BABYCAKES

I promised I was going to start posting product information in more detail earlier this week and I’m sticking to it.

For those of you who don’t normally read author blogs and web sites, and don’t search the internet looking for product information, God help you. Because when I’m shopping for books on my Kobo e-reader the best product information I get is a half-assed description and the price. I don’t find things any easier at Amazon either. Over at Amazon they seem to assume I know what file size is, and what a “KB” is. Not only do I not know what these things are, I don’t want to know. I only want to get into my car and start the engine. I don’t care about what makes it work.

The release date for my new short story e-book, Babycakes, is set for June 10, and the information below was taken directly from the publisher web site. I don’t see how it could be more detailed than this. It not only has the word count, but also the number of pages. But if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to either comment or send me an e-mail.

You can also read a long excerpt if you check out the link above.

Excerpt From Final Draft: Babycakes

I just finished looking over the final draft of Babycakes. It’s a story about a young man who’s been caring for his elderly mother for many years and finally gets a chance to travel to Australia and enjoy himself. There’s a photo of the cover in the post below this.

Release Date is June 10th. Here’s an excerpt…the first couple of paragraphs.

He was a man who had missed out on a lot of
fun in life is how Nate would have described
himself. After college, he went straight to law
school; after that, he went back to his dreary
hometown to open a small law office and take care
of his aging mother. He lived in Martha Falls, MD,
a small, square hamlet about fifty miles outside
of Baltimore and a million miles away from any
hint of a gay lifestyle. He’d settled there into the
banal, uninspired existence of caregiver and didn’t
bother to leave again until a week after his
mother’s funeral.
He was thirty-five years old by then but looked
more like twenty-five. An only child who had been

left with the responsibility of dealing with
Alzheimer’s. He could have put her in a nursing
home. But he didn’t.

Though many of his nights were spent rubbing
the clenched fists of his mother’s boney,
translucent hands and softly explaining to her
there was no need to rant about being lost and
afraid, there had also been plenty of free time to
work out with weights in the basement and run
endless miles on the treadmill in his childhood
bedroom. While saving his sanity with exercise,
Nate developed strong, solid legs that led upward
to a lean, tight waist.

More About Babycakes: Upcoming Release

I have a new short story being released sometime this month by loveyoudivine.com. I’ve been writing for lyd for about five years, ever since I found out I could publish short story e-books as stand alones. Up until then, for years, I’d always submitted my work to larger lgbt publishers like Cleis Press and Alyson Books. Before that, I was pubbed in periodicals and journals dating back to my college days.

Babycakes is a perfect example of what’s been being published for many, many years within the gay fiction genre. It’s the kind of story I would have submitted to an editor ten years ago for a gay anthology, not something I wrote because it’s a hot trend right now. I’ve been right here doing this for a long time, loving every single minute of it.

But I’d also like to make it clear this is erotica, not romance. I always try to distinguish between the two here on the blog because I’m always reading about how readers can’t tell the difference and wind up buying something they didn’t expect. I also try to keep it simple…as simple as possible without being boxed-in. The short stories I write are usually more erotica than romance. The full length novels are usually erotic romance. And I always post something on the blog about this when there’s a new release. It can get complicated, and booksellers don’t always categorize properly. Strawberries and Cream at the Plaza is a short story, but there’s nothing erotic about it…it’s pure romance.

So if anyone has questions, feel free to e-mail me and I’ll be more than happy to go into more detail. Readers do this all the time…some even ask for spoilers and I’m more than happy to oblige.

Cover Preview: "Babycakes"

Here’s a cover preview for the newest upcoming release. As I stated in a recent post, this is a short story e-book and will be priced around 2.00. It’s set in the Daintree Forest in Australia, and the main character is from the fictional town I created years ago called, Martha Falls. And it’s more along the lines of erotica than romance. But there’s a strong storyline with a lot of back story woven into the plot.

Big thanks to Dawne Dominique, cover artist!!You can google her. She does covers and all kinds of great things.
