Jonathan Groff on Looking

Jonathan Groff, whom I’ve posted about here before, is a star in the gay drama, Looking, and he says that his role in the show is the closest to being what he’s like in real life. This doesn’t surprise me because it’s the closest I’ve ever seen a TV show come to creating what real life for gay men is like. At least for a large segment of gay men that is. I’ve read the reviews by the critics and I’ve found them to be highly one-sided, without taking into account that gay men are not all alike.

Says Groff: ‘The struggle trying to figure out where he fits in the gay community and I have felt that myself. What does it mean to be gay? How gay am I? Does my voice sound gay?’

Groff is a Tony Award nominee for the musical Spring Awakening and sings in Frozen – the highest grossing animated movie of all time – but that’s one way he would not like to be unlike his Looking alter-ego.

‘I love to sing but I’m so excited that I don’t sing on the the show,’ he said. ‘I feel Patrick would be a horrendous singer.’

There you have it. We don’t all love to sing show tunes. There’s nothing wrong with show tunes and torch songs if that’s what you’re into. But I’d rather eat dirt than sit through a revival of Auntie Mame. Unless, of course, it’s high camp parody.

 The rest is here.

Archie Dies For Gay Friend

In the final installment of the Archie series, Life with Archie, Archie will take a bullet for the first openly gay character in the Archie comics, Kevin Steller. It’s being billed as a heroic effort. Historically, it’s also a smart move.

“The way in which Archie dies is everything that you would expect of Archie,” said Jon Goldwater, Archie Comics publisher and co-CEO. “He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomizes not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It’s what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years.”

I don’t follow Archie, but you can read more here. I found this item at Fox.com and for some reason the comments have been closed.

Interesting.

However, the comments were left open at Mashable for an article similar to the one I’ve linked to above.

Here’s just one:

This is what happens when you let progressive liberals loose on a beloved teenage character. It’s d*mned ridiculous. What next? Richie Rich getting a sex-change? Scooby Doo and Shaggy getting married and committing bestiality?

This makes me angry. It’s complete b/s It’s also a liberal wet dream.Let’s just corrupt the young by messing with their most beloved characters .

Now you can see why Fox closed their comment section.

Chris Christie Opposes Gay Marriage

When New Jersey legalized same sex marriage Governor Chris Christie didn’t appeal it. But it seems that he still doesn’t support gay marriage in spite of a national bipartisan shift in public opinion. In fact, Christie allegedly believes Republicans should continue to NOT support gay marriage.

‘I don’t think that there’s going to be some major referee who’s going to say now it’s time to stop,’ Christie told reporters over the weekend at a meeting of the National Governors Association.

‘Certainly I’m not going to,’ he added, ‘because these are opinions that I feel strongly about.’

The article goes on to mention that Christie is expected to run for President in 2016. It’s interesting because on this one issue he seems to be losing the support of younger Republican voters, and independent gay voters like me. By 2016 I would imagine even more Americans will know or be related to even more openly gay people. At least that’s what the polls keep telling us.

In any event, there’s more here. When asked to give more detail about gay marriage and the future Christie side-stepped like the good old politician that he is.

Too “Fat” to Bottom

In a forum totally unrelated to Chris Christie, this topic of being too fat to bottom is something I’ve seen on forums many times. For some reason gay men who are even slightly what is considered overweight think they’re not supposed to be bottoms…or they worry about it all the time. There’s this ridiculous concept of body image and how a gay bottom is supposed to look, which is absolute nonsense. In many cases the guys who worry the most aren’t even that overweight. They just think they are because of what they’ve been taught to believe it the perfect body image. I don’t even like the word “fat” and I only used it because that was in the forum.

This is from a forum and the comments that follow it are interesting.

im struggling with my sexuality right now .. how ever i have been with men sexualy in my past and i have always been the more submissive type.. i weight 170lbs im 5’8 im not skinny but im not fat either… it seems all the bottom boys i see out thee are skinny and pretty! me im not that skinny! do you think guys will reject me.. well the dom guys? i know this question might be silly but im concerned! is it okay for a bottom boy like me to not be skinny SKINNY!? i mean i could go on a diet but i really like to eat.. ive been starving myself enough as it is!

I find that so sad I just want to reach out to this guy. There is not set requirement for being a top, bottom, or anything else in the LGBTI community. Just be yourself and stop worrying so much about body image.
