Guys in Sweat Pants; Anthony Romero; "Queer" Book Bashing at Barnes & Noble

I like to post as much LGBT content here as I can, and a new web site that’s about to be launched called “Guys in Sweat Pants,” is something I’ve been following for a while on social media.

From what I gather, Anthony Romero, someone I’ve posted about before, is part of this site and I became a fan of his writing through a reader of mine. I’m hoping we see more of his writing in the future.

Right now you can check it out on tumblr, here. And follow them at Twitter with the address below.

All these guys will be on the site when we officially launch on Feb 7th (@guysnsweatpants)

You can also check out the main web site that will be launched here on February 7, 2012.

For those who might be faint of heart…or underage…this is adult content and you have been warned. From what I’ve seen it’s mostly explicit photos of men, as they say, in sweat pants.

Gay Book Gets Bashed by Barnes & Noble Reviewer

I hesitated to post about this for several reasons. One, I’ve always boasted about how superior the book reviews seem to be over at Barnes & Noble, and I’ve never actually had this problem with them myself…with my own books. I guess I can forget about that now.

Two, I don’t know this author and I know nothing about the book and I don’t like posting anything about anyone without a little knowledge. But I read about this on facebook and checked out the links before I actually decided to post about it.

Three, I don’t like it when authors complain about book reviews, at least not in a general sense. And sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between what is a valid complaint and what is not. In this case, I think it’s valid and the review should be removed. It’s not just a slur on the author or book, it’s a slur on the entire LGBT community as a whole. Any gay person who does not take offense to this would make me wonder.

And four, because this gay bashing book review only reinforces how much I despise the word “queer” and will never, ever embrace it in my own life. To me, it’s as offensive as the N word. As you can see the way this review was worded, the reviewer seemed to take pride in using the word “queer.” And words are powerful.

Here’s the one star gay bashing review, and here’s a link to Barnes & Noble where you can see it yourself:

Minus stars. I wish bn would put these disgusting, nasty queer books in place where normal decent ppl wont be offended by them when they are shopping.

So now normal decent people leave hateful reviews. I didn’t know that was normal or decent.

In any event, I think this qualifies as gay bashing, and it does NOT qualify as a book review. There’s nothing even remotely mentioned about the book. Just one star and a vicious comment about all books with gay material. But more than that, the review has been up since last September and from what I’ve gathered on social media the author has been asking Barnes & Noble to remove it because it is gay bashing. Evidently, Barnes & Noble doesn’t seem to agree, because the review is still up there.

This really isn’t something new. I’ve had people accuse me of promoting the “gay agenda” in reviews and I never even gave that a second thought. Because guess what? You’re damn right. I am promoting the gay agenda. And I’m going to keep promoting it for as long as I have a right to free speech.

Nicest Blogger I Met This Year: Anthony Romero

I met a lot of nice bloggers this year, both gay and straight, male and female. But one guy really stands out as being the nicest, the sweetest, and the most genuine…and that’s because I didn’t expect him to be so nice.

His name is Anthony Romero. And he also writes great stories, too.

A lot of bloggers, especially gay bloggers, can have attitude that goes on for days. Oh yes, I know of what I speak. Nasty little queens with too much attitude and not enough money or talent.

That sweet little Davey Wavey wasn’t so sweet when I found a malware virus from a link to his blog and it took me all morning to get rid of it. And when I was nice enough to e-mail good old Davey Wavey about the malware virus to warn him, I never even received so much as a thank you. I get that. I’m used to that with the Davey Wavey types. They know how to work a crowd but deep down they aren’t the sweetest people on earth.

But this guy, Anthony Romero, truly is just as nice as a blogger can get. And as good looking as he is smart!!

Anthony Romero on Fiverr…

I’ve posted a few times about blogger, Anthony Romero, before. I had a chance to read a few raw things he’d written and was stunned at how good they are. It’s that kind of natural writing talent I don’t see very often…before too many opinions and too much advice from too many know-it-alls fuck a writer up.

I’ve also posted about my fascination with the web site, Fiverr.com. It’s that web site, for those who don’t know, where people will basically do anything for five bucks.

And last night I noticed that Anthony Romero is on Fiverr.

And not just with one post/ad. He’s in the “Fun and Bizarre” category offering several different services.

This one is my favorite:

I will lie to someone for $5.

I like this one, too:

I will photoshop myself into your family photos for $5.

And there’s another that made me smile but I can’t post about it here on this blog.

If you haven’t checked out fiverr, and Anthony’s ads there, take the time to see what it’s all about. You can get lost for hours if you’re not careful, so be prepared to have a little extra time. But be warned, fiverr is not for those who lack a sense of humor. If you take life too seriously you’re better off reading legal briefs than going to fiverr.

AnthonyLAND: Blogger Anthony Romero

A reader passed me a link to this blogger and I wanted to mention him in a quick post. Before I get into his blog, I’d like to state that this is not for the faint of heart (smile.) The blog contains explicit adult content, so if you’re only interested in schmaltzy m/m romance (which I do love at times), this might not be the web site for you. Or, if you feel superior and you like to turn gay men into toy poodles and call the “boys,” as I know some do, stick with the fake gay stuff that’s out there.

But if you are interested in all things gay male oriented, from literary novels published by fine companies like Cleis Press to the wonderful m/m romances you might find at 1placeforromance.com or Allromanceebooks.com, and you are open to all aspects of gay male culture without passing judgment or feeling superior and quasi literary (had to get that shot in, and only because I see so much bullshit about these quasi “literary” types who don’t even have clue 🙂 then by all means check out AnthonyLAND. You will not be disappointed.

This blog, as I remember it in the beginning, is what blogging is really supposed to be about. It was created by Anthony Romero, and this is what his profile says:

“Model, performer, lovable jackass. Anything I say can and will be used against you.”

His posts range from his own erotic videos to a few great personal posts about his life. He writes about his diet and his work outs. One post in particular I read recently was about how disappointed he was with a recent dog boarding experience. I have two dogs, and his post resonated with me because it is the exact reason why I NEVER board my dogs or trust anyone with them.

I’d also like to add that the reader who sent me his link also sent me an attachment of a short erotic story Anthony wrote. It was absolutely excellent. His fiction is what gay fiction is, and should be, all about. Not only is the natural writing talent there, with room to be nurtured, the voice and tone of his material surpassed anything erotic I’ve read in a long time. I hope he continues to write and pursue getting his fiction published. I think we need more guys like him writing gay fiction to keep the genre both alive and authentic, and I’d be willing to bet most of my serious readers would agree with me.

Here’s an excerpt from one post about his diet and workout routine, and the photo above is the example he’s talking about.

Some of the things I say come from my own experience and research, but by no means are the only right way. I take no responsibility for anyone hurting him or herself. Take everything you read here and anywhere with a grain of salt; however, while I may not be a professional, I do have a bit of knowledge (here’s proof 😉
