Amazon Sues Reviewers

I really hate linking to things like this because they show those network news people talking down to us even though we already know…at least many of us know…that fake reviews happen everywhere online, not just on Amazon. You never have to wonder why television is a dying medium.

But I digress…

Amazon has sued more than 1,000 people who offered to write fake reviews for a price. 

The lawsuit, filed Friday, targets users of Fiverr.com, an online marketplace where you can take on “gigs” such as designing a logo or writing a press release for $5. 

Amazon found that people were offering to write positive reviews of products they had never used, most often with text supplied by the seller. 

First, I hate fake reviews and if Amazon is going after fakes, good for them.

However, I’m on the fence about paying for legitimate reviews. Many seem to get this mixed up with paying for fake reviews. If the review is legitimate and the book reviewer is getting paid to write a legitimate review what’s so wrong with that?  Kirkus does it all the time. And Kirkus (and other elitists) charges hundreds of dollars to some authors for a paid review. Of course the trade off is that the author might not love the review he or she paid for, but that’s a chance that some authors are willing to take.

Daniel Murphy and Homophobic Past

Daniel Murphy is a second baseman for the NY Mets. Allegedly, he has a homophobic past that’s catching up with him now.

Here’s what he said about Billy Bean:

“I disagree with his lifestyle. I do disagree with the fact that Billy is a homosexual. That doesn’t mean I can’t still invest in him and get to know him. I don’t think the fact that someone is a homosexual should completely shut the door on investing in them in a relational aspect. Getting to know him. That, I would say, you can still accept them but I do disagree with the lifestyle, 100 percent.”

The rest is here, with comments. I hate to totally attack the guy because it really doesn’t sound like a hate comment. And let’s face it, for most straight people who know nothing about the real LGBT+ community they aren’t getting the best examples from the mainstream media or entertainment industry. I’m gay and I can’t even identify with gays like those two on Modern Family. I can’t identify with anything James Franco does…too gay creepy for me.

I think Daniel Murphy has to “evolve” …you know, the same way her highness Hillary Clinton “evolved.”

Russell Tovey’s Big Penis Reveal

I always smile when I see things like this because if you follow celebrities like Russell Tovey you’ll find that most of them do things like this. It’s clickbait at its finest. You can’t blame them. It keeps them relevant in a highly competitive industry and if they have it they should flaunt it sometimes. I’m also a fan of Looking and I wish it hadn’t been canceled. I actually dropped HBO (and premium channels) after that. I’m not joking. I can watch Netflix (and stream from other places) and get more interesting content. In fact, I wish Netflix would pick Looking up.

In any event…
