Hawaii Lawmaker Introduces Yet Another Don't Say Gay Bill, Straight Women and Homophobia, Ryan Field Books

Hawaii Lawmaker Introduces Yet Another Don’t Say Gay Bill

After living and going out to gay bars in New Hope, PA for over 30 years, I came to know and to understand drag culture without even realizing it. Drag culture was a huge part of the entertainment scene in New Hope and people came from miles around. They came from as far down as Washington D.C. or as far north as Maine.

With that said, I rarely ever saw a mean drag queen. I’ve seen campy and sarcastic drag queens, but never one  who would harm a child. In fact, the drag queens I’ve known don’t even pay attention to kids. And they have never posed a threat to kids. As statistics will prove, the biggest threat to children now are straight white middle aged men. So I’m not sure why these Christians are so worried about drag queen story hour.

When I see these don’t say gay bills being introduced I have to wonder why these people know so little about the LGBTQ community. Being gay is not just about sex. We are a marginalized group with our own culture and history, and it is not just about sex. So when they say they don’t want kids to be introduced to sex at such young ages, I think most of us agree. However, we don’t agree with being silenced completely. And that’s what they are trying to do.

And now a Republican in Hawaii is putting forth a similar bill to the don’t day gay bill in Florida.

“Trying to counsel them to search for their true gender, all that’s ‘BS.’ Stick to math, reading, and science and let parents do their jobs as parents and talk about those sensitive issues at home where it should be,” Garcia asserted.

Here’s the rest. Bills like this marginalize us even more because they single out gay people and put the shame right back on them. And the reasoning isn’t even accurate.

Straight Women and Homophobia

I don’t think this article or topic applies to all women. It’s mainly for the ultra vicious feminists and the conservative Christian crows. Most of the women I know support gay men, but I do see others on social media who actually believe that they are more marginalized than we are. And the first thing they shout if you challenge them is misogyny.

I don’t know how that can be. No straight woman was ever deprived of going to her prom with a man. No straight woman ever had to worry about whether or not her marriage would ever be legal. No straight legally married woman ever had to carry about POA papers if her spouse was hospitalized. No straight woman was ever banned or criminalized. No straight woman, as far as I know, was ever thrown off a tall building because of who she chose to love. I could continue, but you get my point. I face a certain amount of discrimination every day of my life. Just look at the don’t say gay bills. I don’t see any don’t say straight woman bills being introduced.

The problem is that so many of these straight women who are either conservatives or terfs are so deeply rooted in their straight privilege they don’t get it. And this article to which I’m linking now tackles the homophobia that some…not all…straight women harbor.

This is so spot on. I see all the time myself.

“More often than not, the homophobia I witness online is from cishet women – not even men.” says 23-year-old Indian poet and activist Aditya Tiwari, who adds that these phrases create a “false notion of what queerness can and cannot be – boxing them into one category.”

Here’s more. It’s a fascinating and relevant article that speaks the truth. The bottom line for me is that straight white women with privilege are not nearly as marginalized as anyone who falls under the LGBTQIA umbrella.

Likud Amir Ohana Israel's First Openly Gay Knesset Speaker, Ryan Field Books

Likud Amir Ohana Israel’s First Openly Gay Knesset Speaker

In Israel, the Knesset elected openly gay Liku Amir Ohana as speaker. He is the fist openly gay person to be in this position.

The former Knesset speaker, Yariv Levin, left the position to become a justice minister.

This is a very important position and it comes with great power with regard to legislative agenda and pace. And it seems as if more and more openly gay people are filling these positions.

Here’s more. It gets into a lot more about LGBTQ rights in Israel. It’s interesting to see how these things are handled in other countries. There is also a photo of Ohana’s partner and their two children.

This is the kind of article I’m pulling out whenever a MAGA starts talking about “groomers” They may be too dumb to realize the magnitude, but at least they back off.

NYC Police Arrest Man for Assaulting a NYC Councilman's Neighbor, Ryan Field Books

NYC Police Arrest Man for Assaulting a NYC Councilman’s Neighbor

This one is unusual because someone’s neighbor is involved. Apparently, a 33 year old man was arrested and charged with assault when anti-LGBTQ protestors entered a building where Councilman Eric Bottcher lives. The man was arrested after allegedly assaulting Bottcher’s 52 year old neighbor.

Bottcher issued the typical statement about hate groups, and they also arrested two anti-drag queen story tellers that day. The sidewalk outside Bottcher’s building was filled with written anti-gay slurs that included words like “groomer” and “Child Predator.”

It’s hard to believe there are still people dumb enough to think that gay men are groomers or pedophiles, especially when all the statistics and studies prove that it is mostly middle aged straight creeps who go to church that are the real child predators.

In any event, here is the rest. It’s a good example of what’s happening around the country with this MAGA crowd. There’s a video, too.

Kathleen Passidomo a Republican In Florida Wants to Expand Don't Say Gay Laws to Middle School, Florida's Long Shameful History, Ryan Field Books

Kathleen Passidomo a Republican In Florida Wants to Expand Don’t Say Gay Laws to Middle School

Yesterday I got into a quick discussion with a MAGA from Florida who supports the don’t say gay laws because he said he doesn’t want sex taught to kids from kindergarten to 3rd grade. And I told him I don’t want that either, and then I told him that LGBTQ people are not just about sex. Especially gay men. However, the discussion didn’t last because I block idiots.

With that said, Passidomo in Florida is looking into expanding the don’t say gay laws into middle school, and she’s serious.

Here’s more. They even mention that most Democrats don’t want younger kids taught sex in school. But the problem is that discussing a gay married couple and how they live has nothing to do with sex. And I’m sure some of these kids have gay moms and dads.

Florida’s Long Shameful Homophobic History

This piece is about Florida’s long history of being anti-gay. Florida once had a legislative investigation committee called the Johns Committee. This committee, named after an influential politician in Florida named Charley John, was known for going after gay men. From the years 1957 to 1963, gay men were targeted, shamed, and outed at Florida Universities. Some were even convicted and many were denied legal counsel.

Fast forward to the 1970s just as gay liberation was beginning to make headway, a campaign against gay men led by Anita Bryant brought even more homophobia to Florida. Bryant would allegedly refer to gay men as “human garbage.” This wing nut, Bryant, truly believed that gay men wanted to recruit little kids because we can’t reproduce. Well, the moron was wrong on both counts. One, you can’t recruit anyone to be gay. You are born gay. And no one just turns gay. Second, we now can reproduce with all the advances in science. I know several gay couples who have their own biological kids through surrogates. And even back in the 70s gay men were marrying women and having kids.

But what this article really does is that is shows Florida’s shameful treatment of gay men over the years. And it goes into detail

Israel Politician and Doctors Not Treating Gay Patients, Ryan Field Books

Israel Politician and Doctors Not Treating Gay Patients

Whenever I read things like this I feel bad for the gay people who have to endure the frustration and agony. An incoming minister in Israel is now stating that he believes doctors should be allowed to refuse treatment to all LGBTQ people.

Thankfully, Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, has come out in public to condemn anti-gay agendas like this. And he made himself very clear about it. But I’m not sure about how much power he has because I don’t know much about Israel’s government.

“The racist pronouncements of recent days against the LGBTQ community and other sectors of the public make me extremely worried and concerned.”

Here’s more. It goes on to discuss more about LGBTQ patients being denied treatment by certain doctors or even hotels refusing to cater to gay groups. It sounds as though this is a huge growing debate in Israel that sort of reminds me of what’s happening her in the US with ultra conservative MAGA Christian groups.

DC Attorney General Says Don't Say Gay Bills Are Unconstitutional, Ryan Field Books

DC Attorney General Says Don’t Say Gay Bills Are Unconstitutional

Here’s a story about the don’t say gay bills and how they may be unconstitutional. As I recall, a few years back when states started to make gay marriage legal they also claimed that the ban on same sex marriage was unconstitutional.

In fact. Karl Racine is part of a group of 18 other attorneys who strongly believe the don’t say gay bills are unconstitutional.

“My office has a strong track record of fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in the District and across the country to make sure that everyone can simply be who they are and love who they love,” Racine said.

Here’s the rest. I don’t think I would mind the don’t say gay bill so much if the scales were balanced. In other words, I want don’t say straight bills, too. As I look back at my formative years, even though I knew I was gay back then, the straights continued to groom me with things like making me play sports and other toxic male beliefs. Sometimes I wonder how we all survived that straight BS.

NY Attorney General Is "Looking Into" Allegations Against Openly Gay Republican George Santos, Ryan Field Books

NY Attorney General Is “Looking Into” Allegations Against Openly Gay Republican George Santos

I knew we would be hearing more about this story. The first openly gay republican in Congress, George Santos, is facing allegations that he lied about his resume and kept his marriage to a woman a secret. I really don’t know what that has to do with anything. I’m sure he’s not the first to lie about his past. However, the NY Attorney General apparently believes this is enough to look into the situation.

The New York Times broke this story and they claim he’s lied about things like his education and his work history. And frankly, I’m a little curious about this as well. So far there is no word of an official investigation and I’m hoping the NYT didn’t do another hit piece just because Santos is a gay Republican. And I say this as a gay Democrat.

George Santos finally replied to this on Twitter by stating that he would address all of the issues next week. Then he wished everyone a happy holiday.

Here’s the link. There’s also a statement by George Santos’ attorney that was posted on Twitter.

I can’t wait to see what next week brings.

The Gay World War and Putin's Warped Mind, Ryan Field Books

The Gay World War and Putin’s Warped Mind

Here’s more on Putin and what’s happening in Russia to gay people. Now there are more homophobic amendments that will ban anything related to gay relationship.

The author of the article seems to find it ironic that while Russia is still engaged in the war they started with Ukraine they also have time to focus on homophobic laws.

The article then mentions some weird Russian scientist who wants to create genetically modified people who will be used to serve the most elite…they’ll be slaves. He also believes that gay people are trying to indoctrinate people into same sex marriage so they can’t multiply. And that makes absolute no sense because many gay couples I know either have kids or they are planning to have kids through surrogates. My own gay nephew wants kids.

Here’s more. They get into even more deep dark conspiracy theories that no one can prove or disprove. It’s interesting but very odd.

28 Republicans Who Call Gay People Groomers, Ryan Field Books

28 Republicans Who Call Gay People Groomers

This is when I have to wonder what gay Republicans are thinking. Even if you are conservative and you prefer a more conservative approach, how can one be gay and still follow these homophobic Republicans? I honestly don’t get it.

With that said, here’s a story about 28 Republicans who refer to gay men as groomers. I’ve seen it before. And the most interesting thing is that the biggest sex offenders are middle aged straight white men.

There’s been a campaign of sorts this past year by certain Republicans to portray gay people as pedophiles or “groomers.” One is Marjorie Taylor Greene and the other is Lauren Boebert. These two, coming from straight white privilege, are constantly bullying gay men with their ridiculous rhetoric.

Here’s more. The article goes on to discuss these Republicans in detail, and it mentions planned attacks on LGBTQ people.

Openly Gay George Santos Didn't Disclose Divorce with a Woman, Ryan Field Books

Openly Gay George Santos Didn’t Disclose Divorce with a Woman

The media really seems to be going after Santos and I think it’s because he’s openly gay and Republican. And according to what we have all been told, the two do not mix. Even though I’m a Democrat, I don’t happen to believe this. But many gay and straight people do. If you’re gay, you must be a Democrat. Or they’ll come after you.

I’m not one of those Democrats. There are many things the GOP does that I will openly complain about, but I would never go after anyone for their political affiliation. I stick to issues.

With all this said, the media, mainly the NYT, seems to be going after Santos for things he didn’t disclose during his campaign. For example, now they are claiming he didn’t disclose that he is divorced from a woman. Well what do you know? He was married to a woman and he didn’t talk about it. Like no other gay man has done that before.

For those of you who don’t know, many gay men marry women, and then eventually get divorced. However, I even know a few gay men who’ve remained married to women for a lifetime and they’ve had wonderful marriages. They even have kids.

So if the media expects me to be shocked about this, they have another thing coming. According to what I’ve heard, Santos is married to a man now and they have four dogs.

You can read more here. There are a few other issues they claim Santos didn’t disclose. I’m sure we’ll hear more about this.
