Senate Bill To Protect Same Sex Marriage Passes

I’ve been hearing that this was a bipartisan bill, and now they state Republican opposition. But from what I gather, there were Republicans that voted for the bill to pass, and of course, all Democrats voted in favor of the bill. 

In any event, the bill was drafted to codify same sex marriage and interracial marriage. And now the bill goes to the House before it can be presented to the President. Here’s a statement from President Biden.

“With today’s bipartisan Senate passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, the United States is on the brink of reaffirming a fundamental truth: love is love, and Americans should have the right to marry the person they love,” Biden said in a statement.

Here’s the rest. After what SCOTUS did with Roe vs Wade, which I found to be disgraceful, they’re hoping to protect same sex marriage and interracial marriage with this bill. It all hit close to home with Chuck Schumer. He has a daughter who married a woman and they are expecting a baby in the spring.
