Not the Only Gay in the Village of Hay in Australia

This is the story of a young guy named Jefferey Pu who was sent to work in the small town of Hay in Australia. Naturally, he was concerned about how he would be received there as a gay man.

However, the moment Pu arrived in Hay Plains he was accepted with friendship and dignity. And he fell in love with Hay.

Each year they have a Pride event in Hay where they try to build the largest human rainbow in the world. And the overall goal is to promote acceptance, inclusion, and support.

The Chairman of Hay Mardi Gras believes the human rainbow to be symbolic in several ways.

“We’ve brought together communities not just from Hay but around the region and from interstate to help us be heard and seen,” he says. “Something as simple as a human rainbow so big screams that in volumes.”

Here’s more. They go on to talk about the mental health aspects and how the entire community gets involved. Sounds like a great little place to me.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
