Don’t Be Gay At the World Cup This Year in Homophobic Qatar

This year the World Cup is happening in the homophobic country of Qatar and there has been a great deal of backlash about that. I’ll never understand why any organization would support any homophobic country around the world. There are a lot of LGBT fans to consider. These places, especially in the Middle East and Africa, criminalize gay men.

I’m linking to a story right now where someone who is gay talks about what it’s like to be gay in the Middle East. He talks about living his whole life in fear, lying, and pretending to be someone he wasn’t. He mentions that so many don’t know anything about LGBT because the government controls the information they get.

The Internet has helped younger people, but they can still go to jail or even face death for anything gay related.

He finally decided to move to the UK where he could live an authentic life, but he says making that decision wasn’t easy. He had to leave his family and friends and everything he’d know his entire life.

Here’s the link. It’s highly insightful piece and I’m sure there are millions more like him. But one thing is clear: don’t be gay at the world cup this year in homophobic Qatar.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
