Spanish Soccer Star's Joke About Being Gay Is NOT Funny, Ryan Field Books

Spanish Soccer Star’s Joke About Being Gay Is NOT Funny

Yesterday I posted about a soccer star in Spain who allegedly posted that he was gay. He claims he was hacked, and then deleted the Tweet. But frankly, it’s still not funny. And it’s hard to believe that these gay jokes are still going around today. I remember them well growing up as a closeted gay kid. While the straight people would laugh I would cringe.

The piece to which I’m linking right now was done by a woman, and I think she nails it quite well. She clearly was not amused by the Tweets from Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol. She even goes on to state that being gay in some places can be dangerous. And we all know how true that is.

In general, they make the claim that homophobia is still alive and thriving in men’s soccer. And that doesn’t shock me. I think homophobia is thriving in every male dominated sport.

The article moves forward to mention that black and brown men also have to deal with racism, and that Mexican fans still scream homophobic slurs, without any form of punishment at all. And, according to this report, FIFA is taking the men’s World Cup to celebrate in a country that is openly known to criminalize gay men for having sex…sometimes it is prison and sometimes it is death by stoning.

This is just ridiculous that we are still dealing with this on a global level and the no one…no one…tries to do anything about it.

What readers are saying about “Uncertainty”

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
