A Review For All-Gay Movie by Billy Eichner Called "Bros," Ryan Field Books

A Review For All-Gay Movie by Billy Eichner Called “Bros”

I’m linking to a nice review for Billy Eichner’s all-gay movie, Bros. I keep making a point that it’s all gay because we rarely ever see that anymore. We see straight women writing gay romances and getting away with all kinds of cultural appropriation. And if you challenge them, they will call you a misogynist. It’s really quite a phenomenon. It’s okay for them to appropriate gay male culture, but you can’t call them out on it.

And because gay romance has always been a rather small genre, these straight women authors fly by the mainstream radar. And believe it or not, there are a few kowtowing gay men who will support the cultural appropriation of these women. It’s very sad to watch. I’ve reached a point where I just block them all on social media.

I also see something even more interesting. There are some straight women out there who will fetishize gay closeted celebrities in the most blatant ways. Obviously, the closeted gay celebrities have their reasons for not coming out and that’s fine. It’s just the fandom they attract leaves a great deal to be desired.

With that said, the movie, Bros, was written by a gay man and the entire cast is LGBTQIA. As far as I can see there’s no cultural appropriation going on there. And I can’t wait to see Bros. 20 years ago all we had was Brokeback Mountain, which is gay male content written by a straight white woman.

The review to which I’m linking gives a good summary of the plot and it touches on a lot of the good points in Bros. Overall, I think it’s a nice review and I haven’t even seen the film yet. One of the characters wants to educate straight people on gay history, which is a novel concept. I find that most straights out there only know what they’ve learned from Will and his Grace. And they will fight you about it. It doesn’t matter if you are gay, these straights will tell you that you are wrong.

If you want to read the review I’m talking about you can find it, here. It’s long, but it will give you all the facts you need to know about Bros
