Gay Rom-Com “Bros” Won’t Be Seen in Homophobic Middle East Because of Gay Sex Scenes

I guess this should have been expected. Billy Eichner’s Bros is making history, so they say, because it’s the first gay Rom-Com by a major studio. I know I have high hopes for this film because it’s gay content by gay men. However, it won’t be making any history in the notoriously homophobic Middle East.

Bros is set to drop on September 30th and it will be seen around the world, except for the Middle East, and that shouldn’t be shocking. In case you don’t know, Islamic countries do not welcome gay men, nor do they feel the need to offer us full equality. In fact, in many places gay sex is criminal and gay men can be put to death.

Supposedly, Bros also has quite a few gay sex scenes, which are usually taboo in Hollywood. I’m not sure about the actual storyline, but from what I gather, Billy Eichner, who plays Bobby, is a podcaster who works in a museum and he plans to remain single. That is until he meets Luke, an attorney who is the complete opposite of Bobby. It’s an old trope, but it always works in romance, and people like it.

In any event, you can read more about Bros, here. I’m looking forward to it. As an author who has been writing gay romance since the late 1990s, with over 150 published works, I’m curious to see what they do. The one thing I am really curious about is that Billy Eichner has never been considered a sex symbol for gay men and I’m curious about just how explicit these sex scenes are. But I’m keeping an open mind.
