Anthony Edwards Posts Insulting Anti-Gay Comments on Instagram

It’s happened once again. A straight guy coming from straight privilege slams social media with anti-gay comments. This time it’s Anthony Edwards, a basketball player with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Even though I accept people who identify as “queer,” this mean post is also why I find it hard to embrace the word for myself. I’ve personally experienced the kind of hurt and shame that word can cause. And nasty straight people are still using that word against us. This is not just a singular example. Many other straights still use this word as a pejorative.

In the now-deleted video, Edwards, 21, rolls down a car window and calls a group of shirtless men “queer” as another person in the car laughs in the background.

Here’s more. Edwards has since apologized for posting the video, and it’s been taken down. But what about the gay people who saw the video firsthand? How did they feel? I’m sick of these things happening, and then the apologies follow. Just don’t do it in the first place.

If you click the “video” link you can see it on Twitter. It’s really bad.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
