She's Black, She's Gay, and Her Country Hates Her, Ryan Field Books

Samira Wiley: She’s Black, She’s Gay, and Her Country Hates Her

I’m linking to a piece about the queer actress, Samira Wiley, and what’s going on with her life now. I remember her well from her role in Orange is the New Black. But no matter what role she plays, it’s always with excellence and dignity. She’s now working at the prestigious National Theater of London and she’s thrilled about it.

And best of all Wiley and her wife got married right here in Palm Springs.

Wiley and Morelli married in 2017, in Palm Springs, California, and the photographs ran, Hello!-style, on lifestyle guru Martha Stewart’s website. Their daughter was born in 2020. “When we first started talking about this play, we weren’t even pregnant,” she says, astonished by the time that has passed. “Not only did we not have a child, we weren’t even pregnant.”

Here’s more. She goes on to talk about being black, gay, and a woman in a country that seems to be constantly changing. It’s a good article, though.

A Different Kind of Southern Love Story

What readers are saying about “Uncertainty”

Amazon

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
