Harry Styles Gay-Baiting at Venice Film Festival, Ryan Field Books

Harry Styles Gay-Baiting at Venice Film Festival

I remember when Nick Jonas was accused of gay-baiting and it didn’t end well for him. The LGBTQ community turned on him fast and he never gay-baited again. This article goes into the details. It’s actually quite good, and there is a great definition of queer-baiting.

“What has been interesting to trace is that [the term queerbaiting] gained more traction as LGBTQ representation has increased and become an accepted part of the pop-cultural landscape,” Himberg says. “This is because queerbaiting is understood as a tactic where media producers imply queer stories and media texts that are never actualized.”

It looks as if the same kind of alleged gay-baiting or queer-baiting is now happening with Harry Styles.  It’s never a good thing. This article to which I’m linking now explains it in more detail

And this next article talks about Styles in what’s being called a “gay romance.” But the straight people always do this with gay content, and it’s never really a true romance film…or book.

In any event, right now we know that Styles is straight. As far as I know, he hasn’t come out. Maybe he will in the future, but no one knows that for certain.

Previously, people who have lobbied the queerbaiting label at Styles have focused on his fashion and style, which often includes clothes not traditionally associated with men, such as skirts and dresses. The fervor around his gender presentation has also led to some hearty defenses of the star.

Styles also kissed Nick Kroll at the Venice Film Festival recently and it appeared to be totally staged.

The Love of My Life singer is seen making his way over to Nick and grabs his face in excitement before planting a kiss. The crowd is heard screaming in surprise as the two actors embrace each other.

Here’s the rest. You can check out some of the Tweets the straight people made in reaction to this kiss. Most are typical straight reactions to anything slightly gay-related. And some are even repulsive.

A Different Kind of Southern Love Story

What readers are saying about “Uncertainty”

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
