Gay Utah Teen Punched for Hugging His Boyfriend in Public, Ryan Field Books

Gay Utah Teen Punched for Hugging His Boyfriend In Public

I have two gay nieces who live in Salt Lake City and I know that for the most part, SLC is gay-friendly. At least that’s what I hear from my nieces. But like all places in this world, there will always be homophobic people who are ready to bully and harm gay people.

This young gay couple was just standing around at the end of the driveway saying goodnight when the alleged incident happened.

First, the straight guys who attacked the gay guys drove by and shouted gay pejoratives. I remember that well. There was a gay nightclub in New Hope, PA years ago called The New Prelude.  (There is a webpage dedicated to this club.)As you would walk from your car to the entrance of the club, straight guys would drive by screaming the same homophobic words. You didn’t dare turn and reply. You just kept walking fast toward the entrance.

Evidently, it’s still happening today.

“We don’t like seeing gay people on our street,” one said, according to what Peacock and Metcalf recall, and walked toward them. Metcalf remembers the individual taking off his shirt and trying to taunt the couple. “Do we turn you on?” he asked, flexing his chest.

Here’s more. They go into a lot more detail about the incident and what happened afterward. I find it kind of interesting that the straight guy pulled off his shirt to show off his muscles.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
