A Caribbean Judge Strikes Down Old Colonial Anti-Gay Saint Kitts Law, Ryan Field Books

A Caribbean Judge Strikes Down Old Colonial Anti-Gay Saint Kitts Law

On the global front, here’s what’s happening in the Caribbean. There was this colonial anti-gay and anti-sodomy law that was challenged by St. Kitts and Nevis Alliance for Equality.

“This decision strongly establishes that a person’s sexuality should never be the basis for any discrimination. We welcome the recognition of this fact, one for which we have long advocated,” said Tynetta McKoy, the executive director of SKNAFE, according to Loop.

Here’s more. There are many other people working hard in many other anti-gay nations to decriminalize gay sex and promote equality. In any event, these old laws in the Caribbean were proclaimed “null and void.”

The local government argued with all kinds of religious nonsense.

Pennsylvania's Openly Gay Brian Sims Who Recently Lost in the Democratic Primary Poses on Social Media, Ryan Field Books

Pennsylvania’s Openly Gay Brian Sims Who Recently Lost in the Democratic Primary Poses on Social Media

I have nothing against Brian Sims and I wish him well. We probably agree on most issues.

However, I will never forget Pennsylvania’s Brian Sims for his outrageous outburst on the street with a quiet peaceful protester who was protesting against abortion. It was awful. Tony and I were still living in New Hope, PA, and when I saw what Simms did, I cringed. There are better ways to go about making a point.  You can read more about that here.

Democratic Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims is incurring heavy backlash on social media after posting a livestream that went viral of him confronting an elderly woman who was protesting outside a Planned Parenthood clinic.

He talks at the woman for over eight minutes, calling her an “old, white lady” and shoves his cell phone in her face.

Since that time Sims has remained fairly silent. And now it seems he’s taken to social media to pose in the water. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a great photo of him. But I wonder if he thinks we’ve forgotten his tirade with the woman. I know nothing about Disney or Mermaids. Not my genre, so I’m lost with this one.

“Who crested better?” he asked in the accompanying caption. A swipe reveals the iconic inspiration for the shot: Disney’s Little Mermaid, Ariel.

Here’s more.

According to this source, Sims also recently lost in the PA Democratic primary to another Democrat, Austin Davis, whom I actually like. This means Brian Sims will not be going back to the State House next year and no one seems to know his future plans.

Protestors In Belgrade March Against a Pride Event, Ryan Field Books

Protestors In Belgrade March Against a Pride Event

First of all, whoever wrote this story it is not Gay Pride. It’s just Pride and it includes everyone who falls under the umbrella of LGBTQIA. This is why queer content should be written by queer people. These little details make a difference.

With that said, right-wing activists…just like we have here in the US with MAGA…have gone berserk in Belgrade because of a planned Pride event in September.

Belgrade is due to host the EuroPride march on Sept. 17, an event staged in a different European city each year. But President Aleksandar Vucic said on Saturday it would be cancelled or postponed, citing reasons such as threats from right-wing activists.

Here’s more. If these right-wing activists in Belgrade are anything like the MAGA crowd, it could be potentially dangerous. The anti-LGBTQIA hate runs as deeply as their own straight white privilege.

This Gay Man Was Skeptical About Gay Marriage, Ryan Field Books

This Gay Man was Skeptical About Gay Marriage

This is one of those gay stories to which I truly cannot relate. For me, gay marriage meant that my long-term relationship with my “husband” was finally validated and we were legal. To me, gay marriage meant neither one of us would have to pay inheritance taxes. To me, it represented years of fighting for equal rights. To me, it made me equal with straights who are married. And I never ever took it to the lengths this gay man took it. Of course, there is the love factor, but I have also always focused on the more pragmatic legal aspects of gay marriage. It protects us.

As young queers at university, we had followed the fashionable discourse about how marriage was a “heteronormative construct that shackles us all” and how, as gay people, we were liberated from such arcane traditions, following our own path of true autonomy and forming relationships outside the Hallmark romance framework that has brainwashed the world.

Here’s more. I agree with him on some things, but not everything. For one thing, I don’t identify as queer. I identify as gay. And that’s fine. Gay men have always been a diversified group with different opinions. I wonder how he feels about straight male actors gay-baiting and playing gay for pay in films and on TV. Or about straight women authors writing gay content. Cultural appropriation is a much more important concern right now.

Most Powerful Man In New York's Gay Nightlife Faces Sexual Misconduct Allegations, Ryan Field Books

Most Powerful Man In New York’s Gay Nightlife Faces Sexual Misconduct Allegations

In my lifetime, I have seen and heard many stories like this before. But this one allegedly spans over a period of years. And it seems as if all the alleged victims wanted something in return, which they admit. This isn’t a case of meeting someone in a gay bar and being sexually assaulted at random.

With that said, a lot of young gay men who are not out of the closet yet will tend to keep things like this quiet for fear of being discovered. It’s their worst fear.

In 2017, Stephen Carlstrom, then 21 and working as a model while in college, said that Cohen, who was 40 at the time, promised him a lucrative gig attending parties and then pressured him to perform oral sex. The job opportunity never transpired, Carlstrom said.

Here’s more. I don’t know the full extent of this situation, but no one ever pressured me into having oral sex to get something in return. It simply wouldn’t have happened with me.  But I hate to speculate. And Choen is denying all allegations.

There’s a pretty powerful video and a few photos at the link.

Pride Event In North Carolina Allows Kids to Try Out Stripper Poles, Ryan Field Books

Pride Event In North Carolina Allows Kids to Try Out Stripper Poles

Speaking as a gay man who doesn’t have kids, I think that if I did have kids I wouldn’t want them trying out stripper poles. I wouldn’t want them clinging to an almost naked woman either. As parents, I think there are times when the lines must be drawn.

In one of the photos, a scantily-clad woman can be seen holding onto a stripper pole with a young boy in her arms, who is also holding on to the pole.

Here’s more. The woman is almost naked and she’s pushed right up against the kid. They are claiming this was fun and exercise. C’mon, let’s be real. It was distasteful and vulgar. We as gay people need to be doing better. Putting little boys with female strippers at Pride events is NOT part of gay culture. There’s a photo at this website and you can see for yourselves.

Texas Church Apologizes For Doing an Unauthorized Version of "Hamilton," and For Anti-Gay Slurs, Ryan Field Books

Texas Church Apologizes For Doing an Unauthorized Version of “Hamilton,” and For Anti-Gay Slurs

This story is about a church in Texas that decided to put on a production of “Hamilton” without obtaining permission first. I see a lot of that going on around TikTok, where people are not paying attention to copyright laws with songs. There are these two goons who are constantly doing it. These are things we should all know, but apparently not.

Not only did they do the play without permission, but they also made a few huge changes.

The production appeared to implement script changes to include religious references and concluded with a sermon by a pastor comparing being gay to being addicted to alcohol or drugs.

Here’s more. I don’t see how anyone can compare being gay to being addicted to drugs or alcohol. But they did apologize and they did agree to pay for damages. At least there’s that.

Singapore Will Decriminalize Sex Between Men, African Nations the Most Homophobic, Ryan Field Books

Singapore Will Decriminalize Sex Between Men

It’s hard to believe that in this day and age sex between men is still considered a crime in some places. What Singapore is doing right now with regard to sex between men should have been done years ago. In fact, sex between men should never have been criminalized in the first place. Not anywhere in the world.

Singapore’s prime minister announced plans to decriminalize sex between men, but same-sex marriage will not be allowed. For this gay couple with a 2-year-old in the country, they say not much will change for them

Here’s more. There’s a video at the link with a gay couple and their child. And all these guys are asking for is equal rights.

And here’s a list of 70 countries where sex between men is still illegal. It’s interesting to see how it’s concentrated in certain parts of the world.

And then there is this, from a Justice Minister in Mali. He wants to criminalize sex between men.

African nations are the most notorious and ignorant when I comes to anything gay related. I wouldn’t set foot in one of those countries if you paid me.

Harry Styles is Playing Gay for Pay and He's STILL Figuring Out His Sexuality, Ryan Field Books

Harry Styles is Playing Gay for Pay and He’s STILL Figuring Out His Sexuality

This is interesting because even though Harry Styles has never come out as gay, he still trying to figure out his sexuality. As a gay man, I don’t understand this. I knew I was gay at 4 years old. But more than that, most of the other gay men I’ve known all my life knew they were gay at young ages. Of course, not all of them acted on that. Many remained in the closet and still do. Some even married women. But I have never once heard of someone who is Harry Style’s age say they are figuring out their sexuality. The guy is pushing 30. If he is gay, it’s time to open the proverbial cookie jar.

With that said, Styles will be playing gay for pay in an upcoming film because he was attracted to the script by Ron Nyswaner who actually wrote the older film Philadelphia. That fact alone makes me wonder since Nyswaner is openly gay. I wonder how he can throw opnely gay actors under the bus when they so need the work. Some gay men will turn on each other.  It’s also a bit ironic since the star of Philadelphia, Tom Hanks, recently came out stating that we would never play a gay role again. He said that he would prefer an openly gay actor to play the gay role now. And I found that refreshing. Tom Hanks “gets” it. I love him for this.

But I don’t think Harry Styles is getting it. And neither will his straight privileged fandom. They just don’t understand how wrong it is to culturally appropriate gay men. Or any other marginalized group.

“So much of gay sex in film is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it. There will be, I would imagine, some people who watch it who were very much alive during this time when it was illegal to be gay, and [Michael] wanted to show that it’s tender and loving and sensitive.”

And here’s the first example of how wrong this is. It’s a straight spin on gay culture and gay history. Back in the days when gay sex was considered taboo, we were roaming all of the cruising areas for sex. If you were gay and you weren’t, you were sitting home knitting. It was never tender and loving and sensitive. It was dirty, sometimes dangerous, and it was all about raw sex. And the straights never get this right because they never experienced it firsthand. They don’t know the first thing about gay relationships. And frankly, they don’t have to know anything. Just stay in your own lane and get out of our lane.

Here’s more. It’s really an advertorial to promote Styles playing gay for pay. I will not be promoting this film, now or ever. So you’ll have to click the link for the details.

Being Young, Gay, and Sold For Sex, Ryan Field Books

Being Young, Gay, and Sold For Sex

Here’s one of those disturbing stories about how young gay men are often used for the most awful reasons. The focus is on sex trafficking and the victims of sex trafficking. In this case, it’s about a young gay man named, Jose Alfaro.

Of course, the saddest part of the story is that Alfaro’s father kicked him out of the house because he couldn’t and wouldn’t accept a gay son in his home. So Alfaro turned to a hook-up app and met a sexual predator named, Jason Daniel Gandy.

Unfortunately…

Gandy was on the lookout for boys who had slipped through the cracks. He was a predator — a prolific sex trafficker who manipulated boys into performing sex acts with men through his erotic-massage business.

Here’s more. It goes into a lot more detail about sex trafficking and what happened to Alfaro. There’s a photo of Alfaro, too. I highly recommend reading this just to see how some gay men have to survive in this world. The discrimination is still there for gay teens.
