Sioux Falls Gay Couple Experience Gay Hate, Ryan Field Author

Sioux Falls Gay Couple Experience Gay Hate

I don’t like articles like this because they always refer to gay men with phrases like, “sexual orientation.” I think it shows how little straight people know about gay people.  Being gay is not just about sex. We have a history and a culture of our own. So stop it. Just refer to us as gay or queer.

A gay couple in Sioux Falls has experienced anonymous homophobia…because they are gay. Someone left them a homophobic letter with a bag that also had a rock inside.

“It was just so disheartening to receive something like that, especially in the comfort of your own home where you feel safest,” Olson said.

Here’s more.  One of the guys was a Survivor contestant. His name is Mitchell Olson. There is a photo of the bag, the letter, and the rock.

This is why Tony and I have always lived in predominantly gay communities. We know we can’t avoid homophobia completely, but at least we are surrounded by people with like minds. And that’s because when we were first together we lived in a townhome in a mostly straight community…Newtown, PA. It was nice. We liked our home, but one afternoon around Christmastime while Tony and I were outside decorating for Christmas, the little boy next door asked his father, “Can we get a green spotlight like the two f@#s next door? We listed the house for sale the next week and moved 10 miles away to New Hope, where it was mostly gay at the time.

Monkeypox Emergencies in San Francisco and New York, Ryan Field Books

Monkeypox Emergencies in San Francisco and New York

Well, I had a feeling this would happen. While all the anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers were saying there’s nothing to worry about with Monkeypox, there’s been such a significant outbreak of Monkeypox in New York and San Francisco they’ve declared emergencies. I would imagine Los Angeles and Chicago will be next. And since so many aren’t staying home anymore, this could escalate.

“This declaration means that local health departments engaged in response and prevention activities will be able to access additional State reimbursement, after other Federal and State funding sources are maximized, to protect all New Yorkers and ultimately limit the spread of monkeypox in our communities,” Bassett said in a news release.

Here’s more. I just hope people are prudent and that they understand this could get worse. Here’s a good article about Monkeypox and how it is spread. Stay home and read a good book. You can miss a few cons and events and you’ll live. I’d rather miss a rom con or whatever than have to deal with Monkeypox.

WHO Recommends Gay Men Have Limited Partners To Stop the Spread of Monkeypox, Ryan Field Books

WHO Recommends Gay Men Have Limited Partners To Stop the Spread of Monkeypox

When I was first starting to have sex in the 90s all gay men were trained to have safe sex. At least most of us were. We knew that if we didn’t practice safe sex we could die. There were no effective HIV meds yet. We also knew there were specific ways to get AIDS.

We paid attention, we listened, and many of us are still alive today because of safe sex.

Fast forward to the year 2022 when PrEP has basically allowed gay men to go back to normal and not worry about safe sex anymore. But the truth about PrEP is that it only prevents us from getting HIV. There are a host of other diseases we can still get, one of which is now called Monkeypox.

The World Health Organization on Wednesday recommended that gay and bisexual men limit their number of sexual partners to protect themselves from monkeypox and help slow transmission of the rapidly spreading virus.

Here’s more. They go into more detail about Monkeypox and how it’s spread. But the emphasis of this piece is for gay men to stop being promiscuous. And it’s a slippery slope because no one wants the stigma of Monkeypox to fall upon gay men.

Ted Cruz Wants to Repeal Texas Sodomy Laws (Banning Gay Sex), Ryan Field Books

Ted Cruz Wants to Repeal Texas Sodomy Laws (Banning Gay Sex)

Whoever wrote this article isn’t very knowledgeable about gay sex. The reason I put that last part of the headline in parenthesis is that not all gay men have anal sex.  There’s a whole new group of gay men called “Sides” and they are neither top nor bottom. They don’t have any anal sex.

This is what happens when straight women writers try to get clever with headlines about gay content.

In any event, in an unexpected turn of events, conservative Republican Ted Cruz wants to repeal a law that bans sodomy.

“Consenting adults should be able to do what they wish in their private sexual activity, and government has no business in their bedrooms,” a Cruz spokesperson told The Dallas Morning News.

Here’s more. That’s interesting coming from Cruz, who was always against same-sex marriage.

Frankly, I think anything with the word “sodomy” should be repealed. It’s an old-time bible word no one uses anymore.

Republican Lawmaker Glen Thompson Speaks at Gay Son's Wedding After Voting No On Gay Marriage Equality, Ryan Field Books

Republican Lawmaker Glen Thompson Speaks at Gay Son’s Wedding After Voting No On Gay Marriage Equality

This one truly boggles my mind. I’m always saying that Republicans and Democrats all have gay people in their lives now. It could be a sibling, a cousin, a co-worker, etc… We are everywhere now, and more and more of us are coming out.

So why Thompson wouldn’t vote for marriage quality just passes me by.

“We love it when they find their one true love, especially when they become a part of our families then. That’s what we’re rooting for,” Thompson said, praising his son for his selection of a husband.

Here’s more. The article goes on to explain why Thompson voted against marriage equality.  And there’s a video of the speech he gave. But I still think he could have voted differently just for the sake of it.

Apparently, even though many Republicans are not anti-gay, and they support the gay people in their lives, they believe the bill was a stunt by Democrats.

Frankly, I’m not so sure what to believe anymore. The one thing I don’t like is whenever someone compares my marriage to an abortion. Two totally different things.

Dems Slam Disney-Owned HULU For Refusing to Air Issues Ads Like Abortion and Guns, Ryan Field Books

Dems Slam Disney-Owned HULU For Refusing to Air Issues Ads Like Abortion and Guns

First, I don’t know much about Hulu. I never watch it and I feel a little happy about that right now. And that’s because I don’t like this kind of censorship. When Hallmark pulled the ad with two lesbian brides kissing I was truly let down.  The CEO of Hallmark at the time was a man named Bill Abbot. He actually stepped down after backlash from his decision to pull that ad and now he’s running a hard to find on cable network that calls itself  “family friendly” which is similar to Hallmark. It’s called “GAC.” GAC means “Great American Country.”  I don’t know anything about that network either, but I tend to beware of anything that’s “family friendly.” I’m not big on “country” and folksy things either. It usually means Christian and MAGA-based TV.

With that said, I don’t like censorship of any kind, especially with regard to TV and media outlets. I think they have a responsibility to air information to voters. Even though I’m a Democrat, I would even support MAGA ads running. Don’t choose informational content that is important to viewers. This is supposed to be the information age, but I sometimes feel as if I’ve landed back in the 1950s when censors wouldn’t allow Lucy and Ricky to sleep in the same bed.

I think this was a bad decision on Hulu’s part. The cancel culture zealots are already on top of this.

“Hulu’s censorship of the truth is outrageous and offensive,” the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee tweeted Monday, linking to the Post story. “Voters have the right to know the facts about MAGA Republicans’ extreme agenda on abortion — Hulu is doing a huge disservice to the American people.”

Here’s more. It goes into a lot more detail. So far, I don’t think Hulu or Disney has come out with a statement. I’m sure they will.

Gay Republicans In Texas Claim They've Failed to Gain Acceptance, Ryan Field Books

Gay Republicans In Texas Claim They’ve Failed to Gain Acceptance

It’s hard to keep my opinion out of this, but what TF were gay Republicans thinking in the first place?

The homophobia, the hate, and the ridiculous comments from these straight GOP MAGA people are astounding. And I don’t see that changing any time soon. And yet gay Republicans have been seeking acceptance from the Texas GOP for decades. Unfortunately, these same gay Republicans have not learned their lessons.

The slaps in the face never seem to end. They’ve even been denied a booth at the state convention…and then there’s this.

More than two decades later, this year’s Texas Republican convention made headlines again for its attitudes toward LGBTQ people. The party adopted a platform in June at its convention in Houston declaring that “homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice.”

Here’s more. Many gay Republicans in Texas claim they’ve just lost hope. Which I don’t totally understand. What did they expect from these dumb, mean straights in the first place? The only good thing about all this is that the Texas GOP will not go down in history well.

Cuba on Same Sex Marriage and Family Rights, Ryan Field Books

Cuba on Same-Sex Marriage and Family Rights

This is pretty straightforward. Cuba’s assembly passed an update on its family law, which could lead to legalized same-sex marriage and many more protections for many people, including women and the elderly.

The new Families Code will be put to a referendum vote on September 25 after being debated in community meetings earlier this year, where organisers said 62 percent of participants expressed their support.

Here’s more.  Just like here in the US, the biggest opponents are churches.

Lifetime Does A Gay Version of Prequel to "Flowers in the Attic" Just Like My Version of "Flowers in the Attic, Ryan Field Books

Lifetime Does A Gay Version of Prequel to “Flowers in the Attic” Just Like My Version of “Flowers in the Attic”

A few years ago my publisher at Riverdale Ave Books asked me to do a gay version of Flowers in the Attic. At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it because of the incest, but I turned it around and left the incest out. I made a few other changes, too. With these gay parodies, I always mix it up. It was, clearly, doable. Even though I have no regrets it was a tough book to write. And my book was titled Stepbrothers in the Attic.

One book reviewer said this: The characters were interesting and it was a lot like reading flowers in the attic honestly.. but with a twist…  Here’s the link to my book.

With all that said, Lifetime seems to have a new series out that’s a gay prequel to  Flowers in the Attic. It’s based on the book, Garden of Shadows by V. C. Andrews.  It’s interesting, too, because when I first started doing gay parodies of certain movies, the homophobic women authors and readers screamed it was plagiarism. It’s not. It’s a parody and I have always been open about it, never backing down or apologizing. Because it’s a parody. And I’ve always made unique fundamental changes because it’s gay content.  However, it is interesting that this new series comes out and no one says anything.

The twisted origins and secrets of the wealthy Foxworth family are revealed in this prequel to Flowers in the Attic, based on the novel Garden of Shadows by V.C. Andrews. For the television adaptation, writers incorporated a gay storyline not found in the books.

I know nothing about the series, but I can tell you if straights wrote the content and straight actors are playing gay for pay, then you won’t get an authentic gay love story like the one I wrote.  But they do state that one of the actors, Luke Fetherston, is queer. And I like a few of the remarks me makes.

I love him already for saying this:

“So, until we don’t have to do that, then, yes, I believe it’s important that gay people are cast as gay characters. It’s the most authentic option. So surely, that’s the best option.”

Here’s the rest. Of course, it goes into more detail. I just wish more gay men would support the fact that gay actors should be playing gay roles of importance. I don’t really care what straights think, but I do care that gay men don’t seem to think there’s anything wrong with straight actors playing gay for pay. It’s clearly cultural appropriation without any apology.

Republicans Help Pass House Vote for Same Sex Marriage Bill, Ryan Field Books

Republicans Help Pass House Vote for Same-Sex Marriage Bill

This is not a huge surprise to me. I personally know gay republicans and I know that almost everyone nowadays has a gay kid, a gay boss, a gay uncle, or a gay neighbor. In short, we are everywhere and public opinion has shifted so much in the last ten years that something like 71% of the mainstream approves of gay marriage. The only area where we have trouble is with the far-right MAGA crowd.  Those who refer to themselves as Christians.

With that said, there was a bill about same-sex marriage this past week and a number of Republicans voted in favor of the bill. Of course, quite a few voted against it, too. But at least we’re making some progress.

Forty-seven Republicans across 21 different states joined a unanimous Democratic caucus in supporting the legislation, the Respect for Marriage Act, by a vote of 267-157, including Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the No. 3 Republican in the House; Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming; and Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota, who is the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Here’s more. This bill is supposed to repeal Bill Clinton’s Defense of Marriage Act which really set us back years. The bill is also designed to protect same-sex marriage on a federal level, plus legal protections for same-sex married couples.

It’s an interesting article, with a thank you from Log Cabin Republicans.
