New Gay Film 'Fire Island' with All Gay Content and No Straight-Washing, Anti-Gay Commencement Speech At Ohio School, Ryan Field Books

New Gay Film Fire Island with All Gay Content and No Straight-Washing

There’s a new gay film out and I’ve checked it out to see if a straight woman wrote it and to see if the actors are playing gay for pay. It doesn’t seem that way. From what I’ve been able to gather, everyone associated with this film is, indeed, gay. And that’s a novelty.

On Wednesday evening in New York City — about 60 miles and a ferry ride away from its subject— “Fire Island,” Joel Kim Booster’s romantic comedy about a weekend spent in New York’s chosen queer haven, held its premiere at the SVA Theatre.

Here’s more. It looks great to me. I’m also hoping this is a trend for the future. No more straight-washing gay culture.

Anti-Gay Commencement Speech At Ohio School

At an Ohio graduation, some straight white guy decided to give a commencement speech that was so anti-gay people were beyond outraged. He was an alumni speaker, and one of those wacky Biblical people. I really don’t get them.

“Choose a spouse, I suggest. I also strongly suggest to make sure to choose Biblical principles, you know, a male with a female and female with a male,” he said.

Here’s the rest. The school district made the video private, but they did make a full transcript of the speech public. The school also issued a statement and if you scroll down you can read reactions to the speech. People were stunned.

A Different Kind of Southern Love Story

What readers are saying about “Uncertainty”

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no-nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
