Reactions to Disney’s Don’t Say Gay Mistake and Disney CEO Bob Chapek
Disney has been almost overly proactive in making their dislike for the don’t say gay bill known far and wide. They’ve been supportive of the LGBTQIA community and highly vocal about how much they do NOT support the don’t say gay bill. One of the Disney heirs who is a trans person actually came out against the bill. But that’s not how it was in the beginning, and people haven’t forgotten.
When we first started to hear about Florida’s don’t say gay bill Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, said nothing. While Disney’s former CEO came out in public against the bill, Chapek continued to try to remain neutral. And in his attempt to remain neutral, it backfired big time. It backfired to the point where people are boycotting Disney no matter what they do or say now.
But Chapek’s handling of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida — and his refusal to speak out about it — has arguably been the single greatest public embarrassment for the company to date. Disney has found itself at odds with advocacy groups, politicians, and its own employees, who in March staged walkouts over his response — more specifically, initial lack thereof — to the legislation.
Here’s more. I almost feel sorry for Chapek because he’s gone out of his way to make this right. The article goes on to mention a few other issues he’s had since he’s been CEO of Disney. One of the issues mentioned is about that Scarlett Johansson Hollywood person who’s always been litigious. She once sued a French novelist.
In any event, I have to admit that Disney and Bob Chapek seem to be going full force in support of the LGBTQIA community, and maybe we should be a bit more forgiving. I have seen dumb gay men supporting nasty actors like straight Devon Sawa for posting the worst stereotypes of gay men on social media, and yet we can’t forgive Disney? Let’s think about that for a moment.
