As a Gay Man Why I'm Not Thrilled About Lil Nas X's Song About Gay Sex, Ryan Field Books

As a Gay Man Why I’m Not  Thrilled About Lil Nas X’s Song About Gay Sex

Lil Nas X is being nominated for several Grammy awards and I’m not too thrilled with it. He has a song out titled, Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which of course is based on that horrible movie where an older straight man has sex with a barely legal young gay kid. Even in this article, they refer to the book as a gay romance novel and it is NOT a gay romance novel. A romance has a happy ending, and this book was written by a straight man who would not know the first GD thing about gay romance or gay culture. He’s simply appropriating us.

With that said, Lil Nas X clearly doesn’t mind the cultural appropriation of gay men. To be honest, I doubt he even understands it.

Its title is a reference to the gay romance novel and 2017 film “Call Me By Your Name.” But its lyrics are less about love and more about lust, with lines including “romantic talking? You don’t even have to try” and “I’m not fazed, only here to sin.”

Here’s the rest.  You see what I mean…”Gay romance novel.” This is not gay romance. This is a straight male author exploiting gay sex.

And I’m not the only one who feels this way. Here’s some backup.

There’s this.

There’s also this.

But most of all, I find it very sad that other gay men think this was a great film. We have a long way to go.

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
