An 81 Year Old Man Claims He was Jailed For Having Gay Sex

This story is about an older gay man being singled out because he’s gay and because he had gay sex in a straight retirement facility. I have seen it first hand. Those straight retirement facilities are the kiss of death for older gay people. It’s a gay person’s worst nightmare. They live their entire lives as gay and then suddenly they are thrown into this heteronormative environment that’s filled with nothing but straight privilege. And it’s the worst kind of straight privilege. Most times, the gay people are literally…not figuratively…forced right back into the closet.

This story is even worse because the alleged gay sex that happened was consensual. According to this article, the nursing home actually lied about the men being capable of consent.

Pennslyvania police charged Martin with involuntary deviant sexual intercourse and indecent assault. He was held on $20,000 bail.

Here’s more.  It’s an interesting article. But I think the bigger picture here is that there are basically no alternatives for gay people to be in nursing homes with other gay people. I know there are a few places that focus on elderly LGBTQ people, but not that many. And many of us are forced to go back and relive this awful straight life that we ran from years earlier.
