Book club that started the gay rights movement, Ryan Field Books

Book club that started gay rights movement

This is a part of gay culture and gay history that I didn’t know. There was actually a book club that started the gay rights movement. It’s a fascinating story and I wish that the mainstream would focus more on these stories than on gay Santa kissing a man.

“The Cory Book Service was crucial to the founding of the gay movement,” Johnson said. “If you were a gay person in 1955 founding a gay organization, where do you go? That’s where you go.”

Here’s more. It’s a very long article that’s rich with gay history. You won’t be disappointed.

Gay men who came out later in life, Ryan Field Books

Gay men who came out later in life

Many gay men and women come out late in life so this is nothing shocking. In fact, it’s actually always interesting to listen to their stories.

Kal’s journey to living openly got me thinking of all the other queer men who came out at an older age and how we don’t hear enough of their stories.

Here’s more. I think you’ll enjoy these stories. I would say at least half the gay people I know came out later. There’s no rule book.

Wakefield Pool Pioneer in Gay Adult Content Dies, Ryan Field Books

Wakefield Pool Pioneer in Gay Adult Content Dies

I really hate the word porn so I didn’t use it in the headline of this post. It’s something straight people tend to use when they aren’t familiar with adult content or smut. Gay people do it, too. It’s just that I don’t like the word because it brings up so many negative associations.

With that said, here’s a piece about the infamous Wakefield Pool who was known for his gay adult content. He decided to do gay adult films after watching something he thought was awful. He started at the bottom, learned the business, and worked his way up.

“I said to my friend, ‘This is the worst, ugliest movie I’ve ever seen!’” Mr. Poole, who died on Oct. 27 at 85, recalled in 2002. “Somebody ought to be able to do something better.”

Here’s more. A lot of creative gay people have done the same thing. I started doing take-offs on hetero movies with gay characters, as gay romance books, because I never had content like that when I was growing up. All books I ever read were for straights. There were no books at all with gay content, especially with sex scenes. Young gay people learned about sex the hard way…on the streets or in the bars.

Critics Call Gay Santa Ad Creepy, Ryan Field Books

Critics Call Gay Santa Ad Creepy

A Norwegian Christmas ad is causing a shit storm because the postal service did a gay ad that critics claim sexualizes Santa Claus. As usual people always have to associate gay with sex. And that’s not what being gay is all about. It’s so much more than sex.

The video depicts the couple’s first encounter and showed that the pair would spend an evening together around Christmas time before Santa returns to his present-delivering duties.

Here’s more. You can check the video out at the link…if you have the patience to wait for the other ads to stop.

Russia Considers Restricting Gay Love Scenes Comparing Them to Porn, Ryan Field Books

Russia Considers Restricting Gay Love Scenes Comparing Them to Porn

Nothing that comes from Russia with regard to LGBTQ rights is ever good news. And I feel so sorry for the LGBTQ people who live there. This is similar to what they all used to do with regard to any gay content at all. Even online book stores would restrict gay content, as they would with porn. And there didn’t even have to be anything pornographic about the gay content. It simply had to be gay.

Russia’s Parliament will consider restrictions on films and TV shows with same-sex love scenes, making them viewable only by “special access … as with pornography,” a lawmaker said this week.

Here’s the rest. I think we need a word organization now for LGBTQ rights. Too many of these backward countries practice too many forms of dangerous discrimination. And the US should lead the way.

Eddie Redmayne Says Playing a Transgender Role Was a Mistake, Ryan Field Books

Eddie Redmayne Says Playing a Transgender Role Was a Mistake For Him

When this story was trending earlier this week you should have seen the straight people lose their minds.  “It’s acting, it’s only acting,” was the big reaction I kept seeing. And then there are always those geniuses who believe that if straights can’t play gayface then gay actors can’t play straight. They fail to realize that gay people (and all LGBTQ people) are part of a marginalized group, and also that all gay people WERE straight at one time or another.

The bottom line is that they do not want to give up their straight privilege. That privilege is steeped so deeply into mainstream culture they will do anything to hold on to it. And it’s not just with LGBTQ people. They will praise a salve trader like Thomas Jefferson and make excuses for the fact that he actually sold human beings. The straight white privilege rules their lives and most of them don’t even know it.

With that said, Eddie Redmayne “gets” it. He recently came out with a story where he said he playing a transgender character was a mistake.

The actor “wouldn’t take it on now,” he told The Times in an interview published Sunday. “I made that film with the best intentions, but I think it was a mistake.”

Here’s more. In spite of the fact that he did such a wonderful job playing a trans character, at least he understands now. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should be doing it.

Christian School That Fires Gay Teachers For Religious Freedom, Ryan Field Books

Christian School That Fires Gay Teachers For Religious Freedom

From what I gather, there are a lot of so-called christians who do not support the LGBTQ community and they promote this in every part of their pinched little bigoted lives. One place is in their schools. They fire gay teachers and claim it’s because of religious reasons, but those idiots never stop to realize a large part of the school is already gay. They really are so backward. It’s as if they believe we are going to disappear.

“They said a lot of parents pay a lot of money to go to Valor, just so their kids don’t have to mentored by someone who is gay,” he recalls.

Here’s more. Some of these christians even offer their gay teachers conversion therapy. It’s as sad as it it ridiculous.

Gay Couple Is Denied Wedding In Bonita, CA, Ryan Field Books

Gay Couple Is Denied Wedding In Bonita, CA

I’m always trying to make the point that gay hate can be found anywhere. It’s not just in Texas or other conservative states. It can be found in places like California, too. This time it’s a place called Bonita, CA.

“The person who answered the phone blatantly said, ‘we do not officiate weddings for same sex couples,’” said Gordon, EdD.

Here’s more. They go into more detail about how this is not the norm. But does that really matter? This gay couple wanted to get married and they were told to get lost. I don’t care if it’s the norm or not. It never should have happened in the first place. According to Facebook and Yelp reviews, this business has a long history of refusing gay couples.

Straight Men Who've Been Called Gay for Basic Things, Ryan Field Books

Straight Men Who’ve Been Called Gay for Basic Things

I do think the general point here is that there’s nothing wrong with being called gay. It’s okay to be gay. Unfortunately, many straight people still haven’t realized that.

With that said, the word gay has come a long way in the last 50 years, but in some cases it’s still being used as a pejorative. Of course you don’t see it as often anymore, but it’s still there.

Recently there was a discussion on Reddit where straight men were being called gay for doing the most basic things. Many were appalled at things like this…

“My best friend is vegetarian. He eats cheese and eggs still. Anyway — everyone asks if he’s gay when they learn this. It’s absurd.”

Here’s more. It gets even worse, like buying a white iPhone and cutting a sandwich diagonally. And I know for a fact these things are true. When I was in school if you held your books a certain way you were called gay. They said girls held their books that way.

North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinsons Says Straights are Superior to Gay People, Ryan Field Christmas Books

North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson Says Straights are Superior to Gay People

Lt. Governor of NC, Mark Robinson, is a Republican and a conservative. He said that he believes straights are superior to gay people during a sermon he was giving in church. I’m sure there were many in the church who agreed with him, but I can’t help wondering how sad it must have been for the closeted gay people sitting in the church that day. And you can bet your last dollar there were, indeed, closeted gay people listening to that blithering idiot. I wonder how he became Lt. Governor with an IQ in the 90s.

“These people are superior because they can do something these people can’t do,” he said. “Because that’s the way God created it to be. And I’m tired of this society trying to tell me it’s not so.”

Here’s more. You have to read the whole offensive thing. The man really is stupid, and you can’t fix stupid. But I do think he should be brought up on charges of discrimination and hate speech.
