Hey Dude, Toxic Masculinity and Bro Culture Doesn’t Work For All Guys

When I post these things it’s always with tongue in cheek. I saw a guy I know on Twitter the other day Tweeting to another guy and he was referring to him as, “dude, man, bro, and pal.” Classic toxic masculinity and bro culture. Especially the dude part. It just didn’t work. It was lame. It’s hard to explain but some men…gay or straight…simply cannot get away with toxic masculinity. Sometimes it’s even amusing to watch. Toxic masculinity is annoying at best, but when you see someone faking it that’s as sad as it is funny.

With that said, here’s a nice little piece about toxic masculinity and bro-culture and how annoying it can be sometimes with regard to hiking.

Sometimes groups of bros clan up together, so they have fellow comrades to out-man. This is only bad if you get stuck at the same campsite as them and have to listen to them being loud and one-upping each other all evening. Spot them early in the day on the trail and they will be long gone by night fall, off to crush some miles and pretend they’re not struggling.

Here’s more. The whole dude, man, bro thing also makes you look stupid sometimes.

What readers are saying about “Uncertainty”

“A wonderful story that I loved. The characters were well developed, and strong. Gus: A sweet young man. Doing something for all the wrong reasons. Craig: his boyfriend, he’ll go along with anything Gus say. Henry: Gus father a no nonsense man, who’s husband died last year. I enjoyed this story.”
